Eduard now has a 1/48 Su-27B Limited Edition kit....   is this a brand new kit, or have I not noticed it before?

http://www.eduard.com/store/Eduard/Plastic-kits/Su-27-1-48.html?cur=2

It has 5 different markings including 3 foreign customers.  If it were 1/32 I'd buy 2 just for the decals alone...

WildChild - I'm no Flanker expert either.. but darnnit they look cool! Not sure of the leading edge areameant for attaching the canards. I know my Italeri Sea Flanker kits also just have you attach the canards to their existing leading edge, not proper from what I've been told but I'm willing to overlook it on mine if I can make it look right. As far as the "jigsaw puzzle" comment goes, the parts look fine on their sprues, I expect that description is describing the camoflage pattern. (There are some bits of text on there that have obviously been digested by a poor translator!) It may have some canard issues, but it comes at a good price...

WildChild, I agree that area looks to be a whole lotta wrong for mounting canards.. unless there's a lot of variant parts in that sprue pile that we can't see, I'd have to assume that that kit is NOT a true -35/37.  I would be afraid of any pieces that might be intended to add and blend that area to the fuselage.   But be warned- I'm far from any kind of expert on Flanker kits!  Still, I don't think that I'd buy that unless it is only thing available right now.  At least the price is OK.Wink

if you haven't seen this site, http://flankers-site.co.uk/su27surv.htm#48 ,  it's a pretty good summation of kits in various scales but I'm not sure when it was last updated.

well i found my 1/48 SU-37...however i need some opinions. look at the link below and tell me what you think:

http://www.airaccent.com/80309-148-scale-static-aircraft-series-sukhoi-su37-super-flanker-3d-diy-jigsaw-puzzle-p-17352.html

1) the top fuselage moldings appear to be a SU-27, the flat space forward of the wing leading edge sems like its too small for the canards

2)idk if i can trust their discription.....the "jigsaw puzzle"  make me think its one of those foam ones with interlocking sides and they took the pics from something else....but at the same time idk if "jigsaw puzzle" refers to the camo.

if this is a legit 1/48 SU-37 im pretty sure i will get (other projects be damned lol) but im kinda leary of this sites description. thoughts?

Thanks for the link Dre, I'd never heard of those folks before. The sheet at the top of their list is actually the one I've ordered, includes a Ukrainian option. The other sheet looks like it provides a lot more number combos that could keep a guy going forever though. (And more Russian Navy flags as well.) I'll see how happy I am with the ones I receive & go from there. I think I did read a review warning about the Ukrainian yellow being a little transparent on these ones, may need to back them with a white disc.

Blkhwkmatt- nice -27 you have there.  What colors did you use on it?  Is it my monitor, or have you done the lighter weathering at the front where the tarps are used?

WildChild- if you can find one of those I'd love to see that scheme done.  Trumpeter really needs to make a 1/32 version.

Vance, if you look here http://www.karaya.pl/en/  there are some other decal sets that I haven't seen elsewhere.  Too bad there's not that same selection for 1/32...

Dre

WildChild, I hope you can join us even without having to convert a kit.

i will follow the GB at very least. the SU-37 is my favorite modern aircraft, so i am very interested. if i cant find one in 48th i will settle for 1/72 or 1/32 (preferrably 1/32, i have a wonderful habit of breaking 1/72 aircraft builds......or abandoning them because the parts are too small lol)

if anybody is familiar with the "ace combat" series of video games, i wanted to build a SU-37 with the "yellow squadron" camo scheme. (see pic)

i have about 4-6 other projects that need to be finished first, but if i can i will try to get a flanker (always wanted to put a SU-27 in U.S. markings lol)

Nice looking machine Matt! I just ordered a set of AM decals from Authentic Decals, their Su-27 - 33 set, should give me some good options beyond what is OOB in the Italeri kits. Now I need to figure out my paint mixes!

Dre, those Bang seats look great!!

I  have 4 kits to choose from for this GB, the Italari 1/72 Sea Flanker, a Zvesda 1/72 Su-37, the New Academy 1/48 Su-30 MK and a 1/48 Su-30 that appears to be a copy of the academy kit (or based on the rivet detail and size, possibly a copy of a trumpter kit).  I am leaning towards the Academy kit, although I haven't a clue where I'll put it once it's complete.Stick out tongue

Here is a little eye candy to get some of us motivated, This is the Revell of Germany rebox of the Hasa kit (1/72) that I built a couple of years back:

will try to get some pics of the academy sprues this week.

Vance, good spot but I should be OK as there's a little bit of wiggle room for the seats...  I hope!  I still have the kit parts so if bad goes to worst then they'll get used instead.

Owl- thanks, you're going to make me blush!  There's still a bit more work to be done...

Looks like the Aries seat reclines more than the kit seat - you've still got room for it right?

The funny thing is this- on the original Flanker B release, the seat is exceptionally spartan and plain.  On the retooling for the UB C, they've apparently fixed a few things and improved the seat moldings.

Bsyamato, if you need other detail angles on the seats let me know.

these giant ejection seats can help me to find some details on mine LOL

the differences between the resin and original kit pieces shows how the brands sometime looks to real pieces with a different eye

Since I haven't yet started a kit for this GB, I've gone ahead and begun to work up a pair of Aires ejection seats.  They're quite a bit more detailed than the kit parts (which aren't that bad, just plain).

I'll try to post some pics later tonight or tomorrow...

*edited to add pics:

Here's one of the two Aires resin seats, painted, next to one of the seats from the Su-27UB C kit.  Although I haven't put all the parts onto the kit seat, you can easily see the difference between the two.   I have added a few placards from the Eduard PE sets for these seats as there are a few prominant data plates that are needed, particularly at the red ejection handle.

from the front-

the shiny look to the seat belts is from Tamiya clear smoke- I haven't yet begun to weather and wash these two resin seats so they look a bit rough still.  I'll let the paint dry out another day, then seal it all up with Future and do a heavy wash and finally a dull coat to finish them off.

from the back-

Again, it is easy to see the difference in the two but most of that detail is going to be lost once I install the seats in the cockpit.  There's actually a lot of stuff that can be painted back there, but if you can't see it, why spend the effort?

and from the top-

from up here, the biggest difference is that the resin seats have the inner leg supports/rub bars and the kit seats do not.  That would be an easy fix with thin styrene if I were using the kit's parts and there are replacements in the PE set.  As it is, the inner pieces should be curved in a J shape but I didn't want to risk breaking the very thin resin... still fixable if necessary or if they prevent me from installing them in the cockpit.

All in all, I am quite pleased with these Aires seats- they are the first resin bits that I've ever used- and the detail that they've captured really must be seen, but...  a little care with the kit parts and the Eduard PE set will get you a very similar result as well.  All together, I've probably spent the better part of 12 hours over two days working on these.

Were they worth the extra expense and headache of getting them from England (I could not find these in the US)?  It remains to be seen in the final result...

Dre, sign me up!! The flanker is one of my favorite modern aircraft.  i will have to get back with you on which kit and scale, i have a few in the stash plus just ordered the new academy Su-30MK. Will have an answer for you next week.

thanks,

Matt

which scale is the new academy flanker? i'm a fan of academy kits Stick out tongue

Edit

well , surfing on the web about new academy flanker (wishing was 1/72) i found a good page about actual flanker family kits

after brief reading the more accurate 1/72 flanker is again the airfix/heller kit (b and ub) Tongue Tied also discovered that the revell reboxed the hasegawa one for half price of original Stick out tongue

My italeri su-34 is basically the more correct strike version.
