Bsyamato, what do you want to know about the Trumpeter sprues?   There's a lot of them inside each box, the most being used for the underwing weapons.  They have packaged the fragile parts inside interior boxes and everything is pretty well stuffed inside the big box, so much so to the point that repacking the box can be a challenge.

Generally speaking, they're not shake-n-bakes like a Tamiya product but still pretty easy to work on.

Vance, that Tamiya cement... for use on styrene plastic models only, son.Wink  I can only wish that I could equal Trey's pace and quality of output.

Vance, I hope I can exceed that pace of output, but I don't recall being a part of any nightfighter GB..  did I flake out and forget a GB, or have you mistaken me for someone else?

Vance, I hope I can exceed that pace of output, but I don't recall being a part of any nightfighter GB..  did I flake out and forget a GB, or have you mistaken me for someone else?  The only GB that I took part in last year was the Made in the USSR, in which I banged out a 1/35 T-34/76 and a 1/32 MiG-3 in about 8 weeks.

Bsyamato- give me a space like that and I will fill it.  Have your people contact mine with the leasing info on that cosy little cabin and I'll begin to precelebrate my new digs.  That flight deck of Flankers looks mighty tasty.  The fact that the Russians took this aircraft to sea and made it work off a smallish carrier is just awesome.

Anyhow, I'm ready to roll and have the goodies to go for this GB.   I've got a nice selection of stuff for each kit and the resin parts are phenomenal (although that opinion may change once it start trying to get them to fit and play well).

The OOB mule that you see there is the one I'm working on now to establish a baseline of knowledge to apply to the others that get the full treatment.  I've already picked up a thing or two to do down the road regarding the fuselage seams, wings and nosecone seams..  stuff I can apply on the kit that qualifies for this GB.

It's a new year, let's rock some kits!

bsyamato, I'll take some sprue shots for you tomorrow. Raised panel lines, but the details are close to the Strike Flanker you have already.

Dre, yes, Sea Flanker it will be. Looking forward to this GB - will you be building at the same pace you kept with the nightfighter GB?!

Vance, I wish had the space for them as well!   I'm actively seeking a cabinet large enough to hold one, let alone four, once I'm done with the lot.  The -27 B I've got working, a guinea pig if nothing else, is massive.

I'll list you with that 1/72 Sea Flanker unless you say otherwise.

Dre - your 3 options are all 1/32?!?! Wish I had the space for those! ;) I'll be building an Italeri 1/72 kit, likely a Sea Flanker as I have 2 of them.

Happy new year to all and this BG is officially open for business!

Bsyamato, I have to disagree- IMO the F-111-like nose and cockpit and enlarged stinger throw the lines all off (but only from certain angles).  I think the -27UB has the best lines, from any angle, over the entire family, but I might be biased.Smile

Looking good in the box Bsyamato-  they really redesigned that cockpit area and added a lot of curve to that section.

Ridiculously large ordnance, even in 1/72...  the Russians are compensating for something?   There's 5 or 6 sprues of missiles and bombs for the Su-30 kit, some are large enough to stuff a model rocket motor into and send into orbit....

Cleared for take-off on Monday.

Eatthis, welcome to the GB; glad to have you in.

If y'all can tell me specifically what kit/maker/version you're planning on building, then I'll get it added to the roster up top.

Here's a sweetener- I'll give y'all the opportunity to decide which kit I'll build for this GB.

You have these to choose from:

  • 1/32 Su-27 B single-seater
  • 1/32 Su-27UB C two-seater
  • 1/32 Su-30MKK G two-seater

So just let me know and we'll get cracking in the new year!

For those who love the Sukhoi Su-27 and it's later variants and upgrades, a dedicated GB.

The rules for this group build are quite simple-

  • If it's a Flanker, it qualifies.  The Chinese-licensed and built J-11B also qualifies as it is a clone.
  • any scale, any kit, any markings
  • opens January 1, 2012 and runs until everyone is happy!
  • cross-overs allowed, but no more than 10% completion to enter this GB

Please post and maintain a WIP on your build so the rest of us can see what you are doing with it.

The roster thus far:
