Alrighty, end of a long weekend & showing short of what I'd hoped for progress... figures!! Bang Head Picking up where I'd left off, masking pattern for the tail surfaces. (Poor lighting in pics, that is actually my pale blue colour, not primer)

The assistants. Agent 002, the trustworthy one...
Posted Image

Agent 003, uhhhhh, not so much.
Posted Image

The grey on, not bad but thinking I should have lightened it a little. (Tamiya acrylic)
Posted Image

And the blue... ended up using Testors enamels, light blue, no mixing. Is it crazy enough to work?!? Needed one more coat after this picture.
Posted Image

The tape... THE TAPE!!!!
Posted Image

Here she is, needs some touch ups though.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Ahhhj, such fine lines, unlike the slightly more, well, distinct looks on the MS406.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

And then I found some time to start the afterburners. Trying out some Valejo acrylics here.

Then I popped open the Valejo acrylics for the NMF goodies, heat-plates, afterburners, gun surround...

Yep, noticed the one up/one down issue last night when I saw something 'not right' about the way it sitting on the box.   I might try a little warm air and a cooling form to fix this... or not depending on how bad it looks once the rest of it is assembled.

Vance, you live a storied life.

I didn't get the fuselage closed last night as I remembered to work on the two nacelles before adding them to the underside.   I discovered that I have a weird wing warping going on- one wing droops down and the other is bent upwards...  it's not a result of gluing them incorrectly onto the fuselage piece but probably from the sprues getting bent during storage.   Damn it, if it's not one thing then it's another...

Well things turned out to be not so bad though. With a school population of +/- 1800, there are typically a lot of kids there even after-hours for various groups. Local fire department was taking no chances, but all were allowed back in within 45mins. Just enough to completely throw my plans. Ah well, c'est la vie.

One wing up, one wing down?? Must have been a storage issue. Hmm Are they already mounted??

For some reason I can see an Estonian crime syndicate stealing rear-view camera systems from western European cars to sell to the Russian aircraft factories...

Well I was PLANNING on sitting down to an empty house last night. Then I got a phone call at the office from my daughter: "I'm OK, but the school is on fire!"

HUH?!?!?

smoke & fumes from the chemistry department, evacuated the school in the middle of her cheerleading practice time, all the clothes etc left in the lockers, bunch of kids wearing shorts & t-shirts huddled outside in near-freezing temps.  Good times had by all!

I might get the fuselage closed up on the Su-27UB C tonight...  I attached the main wings to the top half the other night to get a good, solid join.

...

I guess that the Russians aren't too worried about rear-ward visibility in the Platypus?

Just like driving a Ferrari, it doesn't matter where you've been, or who you've already passed...

The list price of Eduard's 1/48 is too close to Trumpeter's 1/32's, why build a smaller model?

There isn't enough plastic on those mini's to make a decent snack, let alone a meal, for the big Flanker.

Vance you triyng to put on the flanker the risiko scheme Big Smile insane masking work!

Dre ..so you missing only the 48 and 144 flankers?

It should be good practice for the "lakes pattern" that I want to use on my Saab Viggen!

Maybe Dre's 1/32 Flanker ate the smaller missing Flankers... Eats

Ahhh the migraines. Yep, I'm good for maybe 4-5 good ones per year. It sucks, but it is what it is.

I should be alright keeping cat hair out of the tape as it'll go right from cutting mat to model surface, and cats never jump on tables. Right???

Hey, no 1/48 Flanker in that family photo!!!

And now that I'm actually looking at the pattern closely, I think, MAYBE, I'll be able to mask off the pale blue base colour with tape, then cover off the "2nd colours" with only post-its etc., I don't think there are many spots where colour #2 and #3 actually border each other. May not be tooo bad after all.

Vance, sorry to hear of such a weekend and to top it off with a migraine...  not fun.

Your masking plan looks clever- a paint-by-letters jigsaw puzzle.   Good luck keeping cat hair out of all that  tape Stick out tongue(ask me how I know).

Since this is Flanker Frenzy, may I present some eye candy too?

a family photo with Trumpeter 1/32 Su-27B, Italeri 1/72 Su-27B and Trumpeter 1/350 Su-27K

remember all those missiles I did months ago?   No?  This might help.....

In order to get this across the line, I've decided to go gear up.  I have a lot of gap filling and blending to do on the doors before happy paint times.

Alrighty, Saturday was exhausting & basically a washout. Sunday began with a migraine. Methinks I'll be making this coming long weekend extra long. I did get some tape work done...

This is the process. Marking guide scaled up to actual size. A bunch of tape set up on my cutting mat, guide taped down over top of the masking tape. Sharp Exacto knife cutting along the pattern, one section at a time, peel the paper away, park it with pen & trace the outline so I have a better idea of what's going where.

And Sunday night I marked my last spot & thought "DONE!"... then instantly remembered I haven't set up the tailfins yet!

Ahh well, getting there.

Nice work bsyamato, I'm always amazed at what you are able to build at such small sizes. Well Dre, I was too ambitious with my weekend gggoooooaaaaaalllll! My wife was in charge of 2 separate fundraisers for her cheerleading team, leaving me to run around driving like a taxi every 2 hours, trying to squeeze meals & housework in between. Sad

Then.... awoke early this morning to a full-on migraine. Advil, extra sleep & a little shot of caffeine seems to have eventually shaken me free.  Late supper this evening will be followed by Flanker work unless something....UNEXPECTED! pops up. Most of my masking has been cut now, just need to mix my 2 final colours & start applying tape.
