You aren't the only one who gets distracted easily- I started this GB with good intentions, made some progress on my entry and then joined the Ground Attack GB with a Sukhoi Frogfoot and have made great progress there and now I've gone insane (again) and enlisted in Manny's Big F'ing GB with a MiG...  but the Frogfoot has to be finished by November 3, so that's where I'm concentrating my efforts for now.   Give it a look-see in that thread- you might be pleasantly surprised by what I' ve done to a resin cockpit.

Oh, then there is the 1/72 Airfix Bf-110C that I picked up to see what their red-box kits are like; they're pretty sweet.

Distractions are great!  Just received two more on Saturday...

Just putting the finishing touches on my Intruder this week, then back to the Flanker with a coat of primer. (Yes, apparently, I get distracted easily! Embarrassed)

Can't wait to see what you've done, Owl.

You need to be thinking about which miniFlanker you want sent your way- one of the original 5 (numbers 03, 04, and 05 left) in a standard Russian scheme, or one of the six in a custom, one-off scheme.

PM me your addy when your ready to claim your prize.

that angle really does capture the aggressive design of this family of birds.... alot meaner looking than any F-15 or F-16 IMHO.

its hard to notice the edges on the camo arent hard-edged until you look at it closely.

This is another pic of Revenge_Artists Su-27K...  very nice but I think that there's a Naval Flag decal peeling off..   I do love the angle that he used to capture this model.

Revenge, your mini ought to be hitting the post office this weekend!

They've got you over a barrel, or jar, of paint, n'est pas?

If you haven't already done, do take a look at the various USN colors (both ship and aircraft) to see if there's something out there to suit your needs.  They're truly great cross-over colors.

I've been at the whim of my LHS over the years.  When I first got back in after my first college go-round, the LHS had a great variety of Humbrol enamels. Then I moved away for college part2, the closest LHS carried ModelMaster enamels which I loved. Moved back home to find the LHS keeping Humbrol, but also adding Tamiya acrylics. Tried those for the easier/safer angles - love them for airbrushing, hate them for hand-brushing. Now that guy has closed up shop. Next nearest LHS is an hour's drive away but willing to ship, but.... they only carry Vallejo...

yeah, I didn't want to branch out into more paint lines than I had to either- I had bought a bottle of Vallejo and Gunze Sangyo for a variety of tone in Feldgrau for an aborted diorama.  But I'm primarily a MM fan as my LHS has a great stock of them.   But.. for German Dunkelgelb, Tamiya still has the best paint.

MM has the best variety of greys that I've found- some of their USN colors can be substituted for other colors, especially for weathered effects and tones.   All of my Flanker paint box is MM enamels and most of them are from the USN section... Light Gull Grey is an excellent interior color for wheel wells and the like.

i still like model master enamels and acrylics, regular Testors enamels too. i used to be a big fan of tamiya, but ever since their paints went away and came back, im starting to dislike them more and more. my grantfather usues Vallejo on his HO railroading cars and locomotives, he said its gret stuff to use with an airbrush, although he also says hand brushing it can be a little hit and miss at times. im thinking of giving them a whirl, as well as a brand (i think it the grand, gotta do some more looking into it) called 502 Abteuling(not sure on the spelling) but they specialize in armor colors from what i have read..... but, with some of the flanker paint schemes i have seen, some shades of grey and red-brown found on german armor could easily be incorporated into aircraft.... sorry for ranting, just a thought fellas:)

Thanks Dre - that'll save me some time. I've also been toying with the idea of trying out White Ensign Models' enamels... but I've already got 4 different brands in my stash, hate to add another one, especially an enamel at this point

Vance, I assume the Model Air line?  A quick glance at Vallejo's website indicates that they've got pretty much every popular subject broken down into sets except modern Russian aviation.

It looks like you're going to spend some time either searching color charts for close matches, or use their paint equivalency chart if you already know the colors from another line of paints that you want.  Either way, it's going to take some time to find exactly what you need.  There's a number of other equivalency charts online, but I didn't see any Vallejo paints on the IPMS Stockholm chart.

Kaiyudsai used the AKAN acrylics on his- they're supposed to have exact matches but I haven't used them so I can't comment on them except they looked great on his model (which is fantastic).

Some online charts that I found...

I'll probably have a chance to do a little Vallejo research this weekend. Need to place an order with my "local-ist" LHS shortly, including paint, so I'd like to do it in one shot.

Vance, I haven't tried any of the Vallejo colors (aside from some Feldgrau..) so if you get any tips please post them!   I have a large box of MM enamels that I've collected for Flankers- everything ranging from their 3 Flanker-specific colors to others that are 'close' and none yet look right to me.

The vivid blue for the Kazakh scheme is particularly elusive, so Revenge's arctic scheme is looking better and better to me.

These aircraft either seem to be factory-fresh or exposed to elements and nasty looking so it's hard to pick a direction and stick with it.

Anybody here try to match Flanker colours to Vallejo acrylics? Wondering what the odds are of getting something straight outta the bottle.

I tried that Arctic camo job on one of the mini Flankers, but mine didn't turn out nearly as nice as Revenge's.

This is Revenge_Artist1988's Su-27K Flanker.  He is the second finisher in this GB.

Love that gray-gray-white "Arctic" scheme. Cool

Revenge, there's an "F-series" GB over in the Aircraft forum that's open to all post-1953 Russian aircraft that start with an F..  that MiG would go nicely in there if you choose to join.

That is a fantastic scheme and a pretty model ! I hope all the others are as interesting. I'm going to have to check my kit now to see what schemes are available.

Cheers
