Gary, I can't see the pictures either! Mike that is a gorgeous build!!

Hope you enjoyed!!! I really appreciated being involved in this group build with everyone!! For reference, this is my first completed group build. Will be my first completed Aircraft, and only second model since I started building. Thank You Guys!!!

As for mine, it is a F4U-2 Corsair from the VMF(N)-532 Nightfighter squadron, named "BlackGeorge". I hand made the base, and it was a pain. Wood and me don't mix. I thought that it would be better for the patch I carved into the wood to be NOT a perfect circle. I thought it would be a great visual of what the squadron logos were; not really pretty, more rough and rugged. Those men were fighting men, they didn't have time to sit around and make things pretty. I have included a pic of the actual squadron patch, which is supposed to be a winged panther (if you can see it!!! LOL). I included pics of the last few pieces to put on. The left wing will be folded. It is not completed fully, and will not be until mon-tuesday (already as I type this, the top coat of future is drying). I will post absolute completed pics then, but here is what I got:

Gary,
Can't see your pics. I get the broken image icon. BUMMER

Jeeves,
NICE!! I like the pre-war markings. Looks like a wonderful build.

Here's my update: I will post picts of AV-8B in VMA 311 markings (propably with an a-4c in vma-311 markings - old fujimi kit) tonight . I have 2 others - an AV-8B II NA in VMA 231 markings and an AV-8B II+ in VMA-223 - this last one is the hasegawa kit with 2 bob's
decal sheet, but those are not going to be complete - tho I am working on'em

OK-- here 'tis-- AM's awesome SBD-1 kit. It is done in the scheme of an SBD-1 based in Quantico, VA in 1941 preceding our entry into the war. This one is particular is the commanding officer's aircraft of VMB-1, the second unit to receive the Dauntlesses after VMB-2. The unit was later renumbered as VMSB-132 later in 1941.

There is no AM stuff on this one as I have always found the AM kits to be detailed enough on their own. The BMF is Alclad II Aluminum, the wings are painted in MM Chrome Tellow, and the cowling and fuselage band are MM Insignia Red.

Well, guys, here goes..........

Here's some pictures of the Tigercat:

It's the AMT 1/48th kit. Those are supposed to be exhaust stains on top of the engine nacelles............

And here's my Academy 1/32nd Hornet:

It's in USMC markings, but the decals were almost the same color as the paint, so you can barely see them. I used the CAM Decals for this kit (including glow-in-the-dark formation lights!!), so I'm a little perplexed as to why they looked dark before I soaked them for application, but went on so light. Oh well....... live and learn.

I hope you like them. The pictures look better than the real model!! I am excited about seeing everyone elses models here. I hope everyone had a good time with this group build. I certainly did!!

I just decaled the Corsair tonight. I am not going to make the deadline......but I am going to post what I got. I do have to finish it by Tuesday so I can take it to the IPMS Nats, so I plan on posting pics again on Mon or Tues of the absolute final product. I can't wait to show off the base!! The Corsair just needs to be futured again, a bit of weathering, prop, gears and gear doors put on. However, I am leaving the decals to dry over night. I really hate trying to mess with any model after I just applied decals! Am greatly looking forward to seeing everyone's builds!!

Jim,

Sorry to hear about the troubles that you're having. This probably a dumb question, but have you tried www.monster.com? There are literally thousands of jobs on that URL. Maybe you can find something there. And don't worry about the Group Build. Just post your builds whenever you get a chance, regardless of the date. As Drew said, you gotta take of the priorities first!! Good Luck to you, friend.

Sincerely,

No worries Jim, and Gary!!! I just got back into it tonight.....my job has been insanely demanding the last couple of weeks....but I am moving right ahead this evening by laying down the bottom color on the Corsair.....building the Landing Gear tomm....and then hopefully laying down the second color on top by Sunday. I think that I should still come in right on the date....LOL

Jim,

You gotta take care of the important things first.

Good luck!

Guys I am sorry that I have been out of touch as of late. I am NOT going to make the USMC GB deadline. I have too much going on right now. I am still looking for work. I had a job for a very short time period and was rudely let go. I have only worked for 6 weeks in the last 15 months. So not only that but funds for supplies are non existant at this point. I am going to do the best I can with the F-18's but they will just not be ready by the end of the month. I hope they will be done by the end of August.

As another quick note. I am not at home right now. Rather I am at my college library. My modem died on my computer a couple of weeks ago and I am trying to get that resolved as well.

I have put this announcement off for as long as possible but it just isn't realistic at this point for me to think I can finish this in time.

I deeply regret any inconvieniance this may cause but it needs to be done. HOPEFULLY I can get back online at home sooner that later.

Hi, guys. Sorry I haven't been online in awhile (see previous posts for an explanation). Anyway, I finally got a new compressor at Wal-Mart for $68. Works great. So, with that said, I'm HOPING to have my Hasegawa Harrier ready for the 30 July date. No promises on that, though. Also, I have recently purchased the 1/48 Academy CH-46E, the 1/48 Roden OV-1A, the new 1/48 Hasegawa RF-4B, and a 1/48 Fujimi F-4EJ. Has anyone started on these kits yet?

As far as what I definitely have ready for 30 July, I've got the 1/32 Academy F-18C and the 1/48 AMT F7F-3N ready to go. Just gotta take some pictures of 'em. I'm really looking forward to see everyones' pictures. Only a couple of more weeks to go!!! SEMPER FI!!!

I tried to take pictures this weekend with my point and shoot camera, and they didn't come out well at all.

I'll need to use my SLR and zoom lens, I think.

Just checking in.

Hey Gary, how about updating the first post to indicate how people are doing with their builds, or at least who is finished? I'm done, by the way.

Just a thought,

Hey, guys!!! Where IS everybody? I can't believe that I'm the last person to post here back on 13 June. I've been on the road again for the last couple of weeks (Mississippi, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, etc.), and just haven't felt like getting on my computer after getting to my hotel room(s). Anyway, I'm finally home for awhile, so, hopefully, I'll get some more modeling done. I'm hoping to buy another air compressor this weekend. I have promised myself that I will not start any more builds until the three that I have going now are done. I wish I could believe that...........

Anyway, it seems as though others have found out about our group build, and would like to participate. Are there any objections? I know I said that 31 January 2004 would be the cut-off date, but, I don't mind if no one else does. As long as everyone posts a picture of their model on this thread on 30 July 2004 (not before!!!!)(in-progress photos excluded from that stipulation), then I can't see why not. Maybe we should waive the entry deadline? What do you guys think?

Lufbery,

That's a great-looking Phantom so far. I remember when I was in Iwakuni back in 1989, TripTrey (as VMFA-333 is affectionately called) was, and still is, flying Hornets. Good Luck!!

keeg,

Nothing to be nervous about. This is my first group build also. Just have fun, and don't rush it. Have you decided what you're gonna build yet?

stoomfluit,

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that you are Dutch. I work for a Dutch company, based in Veenendaal, called Nucletron. Maybe the next time I'm over there, we can meet?

kik36,

What's an Omni5000?? Never heard of it. Is it an aftermarket kit of some kind?

used to do the mirror trick with architectural models to make it look like a block of buildings - LOL. It's a great slight of hand

I've always been a procrastinator though Heath, I figure if time really gets tight I can just finish half of the model and just take pictures of that side... that should only take half the time.LOLLaugh [(-D]Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]
