Hmmmm. I guess we're not as sticky as we used to be, huh?

How's everything going out there in modeling land? You all gonna be ready for 30 July?

Vintage,

Feel free to join in. Just make sure that you post a picture of your completed kit in this thread no earlier than 30 July 2004 (two months away!!). I'll add your name & subject to the first posting in this thread. Good Luck!!

Hey everyone, Great looking pics of your projects, um I was wondering If I could join in with you guys. I just bought the Monogram Classics reissue of there 1968 1/48 F4U-4 Corsair, and I want to build it as a marine fighter, since I have already built the Tamiya kit as a carrier based fighter. I think I am up to the task of getting this old kit up to Tamiya standards in time for your finish date, with alot of putty, scratchbuilding, and an entirely new cockpit and engine, but lets not forget the landinggear, the gun bays for the cannons, and a flap set,in addition to underwing payloadsDead [xx(]. Let me know ok, oh and if any of you are interested in bombers come to the Bomber Group Build after your done here. Thanks and good luck with all of your builds.Big Smile [:D]Black Eye [B)]Cool [8D]

Okey-Dokey, guys. The finish date will stay 30 July 2004. Sorry it took so long for me to respond to all of this, but. MAN, have I been busy lately!!! I'm putting about 5000 miles per month on my Dakota lately visiting all of my hospitals. Gets pretty monotonous driving all the time. Anyway, I'm not gonna finish anything until I get a new compressor. The three items that I have in the works all need paint. Oh well. Maybe soon. Hope everyone else is having better luck than I am.

Happy Memorial Day!!!!!

If it gets moved up, I'll be in a state of panic (like I'm not already). I vote with Lufbery.
As it is, I am going to have to scale back a bit.

Man, I wish I could have jumped in on this one earlier. I build mostly USMC gear, but optempo has definitely NOT been in my favor. I'm supposed to be getting stateside about a month from the end of this build, so I may take a crack at getting something built, but I want to spend most of my time with my family before the cycle starts for another trip. If not this time, maybe there'll be another USMC build again?
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

If you guys do post this up let me know I have had trouble finding decals for the USMC versions of the Hornet to my liking anyhow. I prefer the Hi Viz stuff not the low viz. I have a nice set for the A model but not the C model.

Hi Gary,

I say leave the finish date at 30 July. I'm done with the model, figure, and base, but I'd like to take some better photos, get 'em developed, and scan them. The way things are going, that'll take a little while. Big Smile [:D]

I may have to back out of this one as it is. If you move it up I will most certainly have to back out of this one. I am in favor of pushing the date to August. Or even September. Things have not been going so well around here lately.

Folks,

How's the modeling coming along? I've been outa town quite a bit lately, so, unfortunately, I haven't had a lot of time for the Internet, or modeling for that matter. Anyway, I was doing some painting on my F-15E, and my darned compressor bit the dust on me. The pump on it tore itself up internally (shoulda heard the racket it made!!), and a new pump costs almost as much as a new compressor. So, as soon as I can afford it, I'm buying a new compressor. A new pump is $56, and a new compressor with an attached 2-gallon tank and one year warranty is $75. Hmmmmmm..............

Is everyone ready for the 30th of July? Or, should we move the completion date up a bit? I don't think I'll be finishing anything else before the deadline (see compressor story above), and if a lot of you are also finished with the model(s) you're building for the Group Build and don't plan on building anything else for it, then maybe we can move the date up a bit, just so we don't have to wait so long. I'd like to hear everyone's input on that before a firm decision is made. Just send me an e-mail, or reply in this forum.

Talk atcha later!!

I bought a sony DSC-U20 it came with batteries, a charger, and a memory card for only $130 at the PX. It works well, but it has no zoom. It is very compact.

It takes pretty good close ups for model kits.

well, first you need a place to put your pictures online (website, for instance). Then you have to make a link to the URL of the pic you want to post.

Like so: . But then without the spaces between the g and the ]
Without these spaces it would look like this:

I wish you good luck with it.

BTW, what kind of camera did you buy? I have to buy one myself as well.

Jeeves,

Believe me, antennae AIN'T clear in real life. Most are black, which is actually the color of the plastic coating (or rubber coating sometimes) surrounding the actual conductor, which is metal. Back in the early days of radio and flight, the antenna cables were mostly bare wire, but not always. But clear they were not.

Hmm..the picture on the bottomof the AM SBD-1 box shows the antennae kind of clear...and I have seen other models as well like this. The fishing line I used for my antennae looks the same-- but should I paint it black anyways?? Hmm...

Guys,

Hi. I'm back. Been EXTREMELY busy over the last few weeks. I have managed to finish my F7F-3N & F/A-18C Hornet, though, so I'll have two aircraft (maybe three) to display on 30 July 2004. I'm glad to see that everyone else is having a good time making progress on their projects for this Group Build. I'm hoping to have my Hasegawa Harrier II Plus ready in time for the posting date. Right now, I have three projects in the works:
Tamiya 1/32 F-15E Strike Eagle
Tamiya 1/48 P-47 Thunderbolt Razorback
Hasegawa 1/48 AV-8B Harrier II Plus

Good Luck to everyone!! Let's see how many projects we can get completed for the Group Build!!

Hello to all undertaking the USMC Group Build.

I am posting here in the hope that one of you may be able to assist me overcome my temporary insanity! I am currently building the Academy 1/48 F4U-1D Corsair and somehow I have lost the cockpit canopy. (doh!)

Is there anyone here that can suggest how I can go about getting a replacement? Any help at all would be very greatly appreciated. I have already put about 30 hours into the kit and I don't want to trash it now.

Many thanks,

Bob

Phew!!

Well-- other than an antennae wire- the SBD-1 is officially done!! It is probably my best work yet on a paint job, although in comparison to folks like Pix or Swanny, that's not sayin' much LOL

I am inclined to do very little weathering on her as they had time before the war to spit shine these babies I'll gather. Maybe just a few minor exhaust stains, but that's about it.

Feels goos to have this rather challenging scheme done....now onto a P-39 to bide my time until the D-Day build begins....

Thanks guys. I'll keep you posted on how it's going.

In other news, and more on-topic, I've finished my model and display for this build!

I've got the plane done, the figure painted, the base finished, and everything put together. It feels really good.

-Drew

Thanks, buddy. I'm going to study community and regional planning. I'll be going to school in the evenings, part-time, while working full-time. But the cool thing is that my company will reimburse the tuition.
