Guys, not the greatest photos but 'Daddy Please, Milk Wagon Express' is done and I'm ready to post photos dang it!!!
PS: 1). The demarcation line for the white tail wasn't straight on the actual aircraft.
2). There was a white stripe around the middle of the spinner in the real plane, I made a massive mess every time I tried to paint it so I gave up
3). Looks like a forgot to put the small light under the wing in, I don't feel like retaking the photos

Cool, guys! I finished mine but the photos I took Sat were too krappy to post. Darn daylight saving time- it's too dark to take photos when I get home from work- will take more next weekend.
Go ahead Trey, I'm starting my P-40B in a couple of days.
Cheers
Tony
I'm just taking it one GB at a time.
Just catching up on this ,nice Father Daughter build DJ ! I'm joining in late with a monogram P-40B 1/48 hope the thread is still kiickin'?

Not really, no.. More the same pose I posted, using a horizontal surface to set behind the planes.... The one above though, you could do it justice with the smaller plane in the same position, but shoot it with the entire length of the big one in the shot too..
Then you'd have the big one in the foreground, the small one in the background, and your depth of field would be easy to maintain, making both planes more focused.. Just move the small on closer to the lense..
Thanks Gamera! She is quite proud of it (and so am I).
Hans von Hammer That picture BEGS for a photoshopped "terrain" background, DJ! With a little planning, you could make a helluva forced-perspective shot of the two in-flight "somewhere over China"..

You mean something like this?
Wow, she did do a great job- congrads!
My P-40 is almost there, stupid spinner with a stripe down the middle, I can't get it anywhere near straight.
My daughter finished her P-40. I think she did an excellent job.
Here are our planes side by side:
And here is a creative shot with both of them:
MJames70 I pretty much finished up a while ago....not my greatest effort ever, breaking one main gear leg a couple of times and cracking one of the back windows trying to install it. Sometimes you just have to know when to move on...

Looks real good to me (but, then, P-40's always do) ... and you have my respect for finishing up a tough build. Salute!
MJames: She looks good to me! Know what you mean about the gear legs, I'm breaking them all the time on 1/48th planes, 1/72nd must be awful.
Still great job!
MJames & DJ, they look great, I'll add your models to the front page today, after school.
DJF - Nice P-40! I'm also looking forward to seeing your daughter's completed build.
Hey DJ, that looks great! Looking forward to your daughter's fighter!
I finished my P-40.
My daughter finished painting, now she just needs to put the decals on and glue the wheels and canopy on. I'll have pictures of it when she is done.
OO: Hey she's lookin' good there! Now just to slap some paint on 'er!
RRB: Wow, hadn't seen you in forever, other than the problems with the forum I hope everything is alright with you.

Sigh...
It seems I've been a bit lazy.. :(
But I really do lack motivation...
Thanks, Tony.
Your P-40 cockpit looks fine Ordie. I liked the Hasegawa kit too when I built it, although it's by no means a 'shake and bake'. Mine had an RAAF scheme from the Western Desert.
I have already promised an Academy P-40 for this GB, but since I'm also building an Airfix 1/72 P-40B for the Pearl Harbour GB, I might as well cross it over into this GB too. Please add it to the register.
So yea I actually started my Academy P-40. Its the most plain kit I've ever seen. I dont think a beginner modeler could screw up adding more detail to the cockpit. For me, Im leaving everything as is, I need to get a kit complete on the shelf to get my motivation moving again. I'm actually building two P-40s, I bought another Academy kit for someone else to build but that isnt happening so I have two. I'll get pictures as soon as I can, but they really wont be of much. I'm already looking for a Hasegawa kit.
A little wet tissue here and there, and my Hasegawa P-40E is ready for paint. I had some trouble with steps along the fuse plug and the turtleback plug seams, as you can see, which required some filling and sanding. Other than that, though, I am enjoying the build. It's my first non-Revell kit, and the fit (other than the plugs) is great. I closed the cockpit, as you can also see. The paint scheme is going to be the one of the two provided for in the kit's decals. It will depict the P-40E assigned to Major E.F. Rector, USAAC, In China in July of 1942, shortly after the US Army took control of the AVG squadrons there.
More when I have it!
Well, here's the cockpit at this point. It's only my second cockpit with any detail in it. It's been painted and sludge washed. The only things left are to mount the gunsight and slop more softener on the instrument panel decals, which still aren't laying completely down in the raised detail, as you can see. The PE seatbelts I used were my first PE bits ever, and I'm not anxious to do any more of it any time soon. Talk about a PITA. The molded detail in the floor and sidewalls were fun to paint, however, so I'm not down on the build by any means. I know it's not the best, but, hey ...
Both look great DJ. Good job by your daughter.
Oh very nice!!! My compliments to your daughter, eight was about the same age I built my first kit.
Thanks for all of the comments! Yes, my daughter is a very creative soul. She is having so much fun.
Her birthday was yesterday and her Grandpa and cousins will be in town this week, so it looks like we will not get much done. I did get the decals on mine, but she has been a little distracted. Apparently turning 8 is a big deal.
