Son Of Medicine Man

Hi Everyone,

It has been sometime since I posted any pictures of my progress.  I have managed to put a little time in at the bench and took some pictures along the way.  But with everything else going on I have not had time to post them.  So here they are.

In this first one I have painted the knobs on the rear cockpits scope:

In the next picture I have the right side of the cockpit wall still attached to the resin base mold:

Here it is again with the resin base mold removed, sanded to fit the cockpit:

In the next picture I have epoxied the scope into the rear cockpit:

This next picture shows the left cockpit wall still attached to the resin base mold:

And here it is again with the resin base mold removed, sanded to fit the cockpit:

The next picture shows the front ejection seat still attached to the resin base mold:

And here it is again with the resin base mold removed:

And the next picture shows the rear ejection seat with the resin base mold still attached:

And here it is with the resin base mold removed:

I epoxied the front ejection seat into the cockpit and now waiting for it to cure.  I will take more pictures tomorrow.

You missed your calling, pal.

You were born to be a neurosurgeon.

Sorry to be the guy to tell you that so late in life pal.

Fantastic work, maybe you really were a

Swiss watch-maker in a former life.....

Your ejection seat 'pull-handles' are still the

most realistic i have ever seen.

Dom

What Dom said, Ken!! That is fantastic work! I've never been able to get a cockpit looking like that. I'll definitely be asking for some guidance when I go back to working on my F-111! Can't wait to see how this all comes together!

Well, I am making a bit of progress on a couple of kits from the partially built pile.  Sorry, still no pics.  I hinted to the Mrs. that I needed a new camera for Xmas but no luck, lol.  I'll send up some pics when I can get her to let me get a new one, probably around next Xmas.. lol

For those who are complaining that i spent xmass alone. Dont worry, it was voluntary. I had 4 or 5 invites to different christmas parties, but at this time of the year i turn into a real grinch and avoid people like the plague.

Hi Everyone,

Here is today's progress.

In this first picture I have the front ejection seat epoxied into place:

This next picture shows the rear ejection seat epoxied into place:

Here is a close up of the rear control stick epoxied into place.  It was a real bear since I had to hold it in position waiting for the 5 minute epoxy to setup:

Here is an overhead shot of the cockpit so far:

And finally a view from the starboard side:

Mike, I don't blame you. When I worked retail all I wanted to do on getting home was to eat something and take a nap.

Ditto guys,

When I worked the seafood counter at a big-box super market,

I could hardly get to my home-work I was so wiped after work.

It helped put me through university,

but I injured my right knee, and my back.

I still live with those legacies....

Good news is I don't have to work retail anymore,

but I know there may be a job at Wally-World when

I retire, I'll be a greeter this time.

Yeah it pretty much sucked the life out of me. People think its stressful trying to shop last minute christmas eve. Try being on the other side of the counter. Regular people get to leave. Most retail assistants dont get home till after midnight. They also have to put up with all the abuse of last minute stressed out customers.

Well that is why I stopped buying Christmas presents many years ago.  I told all of my friends and family to not buy for me and I was not going to buy for them.  We still get together for Christmas and enjoy each other's company, but do not exchange gifts.  Presents are for children, not for adults.  That is where the commercialization has taken over.  I do not miss it one bit!

Good reasons Ken:

I always make sure they get what they want.

I believe in presents, I don't believe in "surprises."

Mikey, the abuse part is incredible.

People have this idea that just because

you are serving them, you are a public t****t.

Really, I had to say, and maybe you could not do this,

"I'll escort you to the door, or wait a minute and the security

will do it. If you make any more of a Public Disturbance,

I will call 911."

"Yes sir/ma'am, you are being invited to leave, NOW"

That's when I would pick up the telephone and make a call

to security anyways. They always sent the guys'gals around.

"Hello sir/ma'am, may I escort you to your car?"

We did kick people out. Given our 'shrink', we had to discourage

people like that.......most are repeaters.

Any how, I hope the bastiches don't get you down. They are

just statistics, waiting for an accountant to happen.

our old boss was...rather vocal lol. We had one customer who was a suspected game pirater (hed buy a game, copy it, return it for a full refund) boss pulled him up on it one day, he started getting beligerant so the boss just yells at him at the top of his lungs "GET THE F*** OUT OF MY SHOP, IF I EVER SEE YOU IN HERE AGAIN I WILL HAVE YOU ARRESTED" he just went clean off his nut. It was kinda funny.

But when i say abuse im talking about the general "Im better than you because i dont work in the public eye" kind of abuse.  You see it every day and dont recognise it as abuse untill its aimed at you.

Retail is bad, I grant you that, but it is nothing compared to working tech support for an ISP.  My first ISP job was back in 1993.  An Internet provider in the NE U.S. called TIAC (The Internet Access Company).  I loved the job, great co workers, challenging ( did tier II and III support), and the pay was great.  BUT...  some of the calls we got had to be heard to be believed.  Like the time some guy called up and didn't even have a modem.  He thought his surge protector was a modem because it had a phone line pass through.  There was an old radio comedy bit about the Internet Help Desk, and I am here to tell you that everything said in that skit was 100% accurate...    We had threats, people hurling insults, profanities etc.  We even had a couple turn up at the building and yell at all of us.  They seemed to think that that $10.95 a month they spent, gave them the right to treat all of the techs like dirt, when 99.9% of the time, they had no one to blame but themselves and their ignorance and unwillingness to learn not to do certain things.  And Yes, we did have a few coffee cup in the CD ROM tray incidents.  It would blow your mind.  And when Windows 95 came out, and we had to switch over something like 124,000 users.....  Luckily they didn't upgrade all at once.,  But man, was I glad to see Trumpet Winsock go...  Doing hardware support isn't much better either.

Hi Dom,

Thank you for the compliments!  Yes, I will put together a document on how I did the instrument panels, but it will have to wait until I get this build done.  I really want to get this done before the this group build ends.  If anyone wants to know before then, they can look through "The Official F-4 Phantom II Group Build 2011".   I started explaining how I did it on page 164.  You will have to sort through the pages after that to get all the details since everyone else's posts are mixed in with mine.  Here is a link:

That is a fantastic pit.

As for my progress. Heres where im at. Got some paint down. Another coat to go on top then i gotta sort out the belly. Then i gloss coat, decal, dullcoat etc. Along with the little details to be painted (Black blast sheilds for guns etc.)

Picked up a couple new toys yesterday. A proper sprue cutter and a new razor saw. My old razor saw got blunted doing stupid things (Hey lets cut some lead shot in half so it will fit in the hole) and untill now ive been using a pair of oversize side cutters to cut things off the sprue. Can have terrible results.

And this is what i got my partner for xmas.

Got it a few weeks before, but it was her pressie. 6 neon tetras. 3 rummynose tetras and a pleco. all in a 5 and a half gallon tank.

Thank you Ken, I appreciate the compliment!

I was just thinking about you the other day.  I discovered that the Grissom Air Force Museum has a TF-102 on display and they are only an hour and 19 minutes driving time from me!  This spring I am going to take a trip there and take lots of pictures.  They have a lot of other aircraft on display as well.  Here is a link:

Nice work Scorpio Mike!  That Skyhawk is coming along very nice!  And congratulations on scoring the sprue cutters and micro saw.  I learned a long time ago that having the right tools and quality tools makes a world of difference in how you get the job done.

Ken: Hey again great work there! You've really brought that cockpit alive! And very cool looking museum, I've been to about a dozen aircraft museums and never get tired of seeing vintage aircraft.

Rich: Thank God I've never had to work tech support! I love the story about the guy who got fired after he told the customer: 'Do you have the box, packing material, and receipt?  Well, return it to the store you bought it- since you're too @##@(Y% stupid to own a computer!'

Of course that was after he was on the phone with the guy for over an hour trying to figure out why the computer wouldn't work and found out the guy hadn't plugged it in.............

Mike: Nice work there, and congrads on the tools. I only bought a pair of sprue cutters some years ago and wonder how I ever got along without them!

BTW: Just for kicks here's the Sasquatch I painted on Christmas!!! More photos at the click here.
