PROGRESS....er sorta lol.

Got the prop done and weathered. Ive since painted the spinner blue. Im kinda stalled on this since so much of my next few steps require me to paint and im a bit short to get the rattle cans i need.

I could brush paint it. But i wanna get the nice feathered look between the colours. I also want to weather this bird quite heavily to im thinking of using the salt technique.

Ken and Mike: Nice looking work guys!

Cockpit almost done here, went out-of-the-box, doesn't look too bad with a little pre-shading and chipping with a silver pencil.

Hi Scorpiomikey,

Nice work on the prop!  Yes  Nobody is in a rush here, so I would agree with you and wait until you can afford the rattle cans.  Especially since you have such nice work invested in it so far!

Hi Cliff,

Thanks for the kudos!  Sounds like you are moving right along on your Havoc.  The cockpit on mine is taking me forever!

The weatherings easy. I put the prop in my dremel. wound it back to almost the slowest it would go. Than jammed a pencil in the prop. Once i was happy with the wear and tear i then proceeded to crank the dremel up as fast as it would go and get all excited because it worked like real propeller lol.

That's a great technique!  It turned out really nice.

Greetings fellow modelers!

Not a lot of progress for me to report today but at least there is progress.  Here is a few pictures of what I have done today:

I feel like it is comparable to a slow moving locomotive.  It may be slow, but nothing is going to stop it.  I will check in with everyone tomorrow night.

Hello Gang!

Ken, I'm glad you are feeling better and happy to hear you did well on those exams! Congratulations!

Some interesting things going on here! I like the TF-102 conversion, I never knew it even existed! Odd looking craft with that side-by-side seating! Be looking forward to seeing how that goes!

I want to apologize for my lack of contribution here. With all that's going on between an elderly mother with COPD and dementia, a not-so-wonderful job, unexpected truck repairs, dental issues, blizzards, and so on, I find I have little time and even less energy for hobbies. Most days I leave the house around 8 in the morning and don't return until 10 p.m. or later. What time I have had, I put into trying to tie up the loose ends on my F-4F for the Rhinobuild. It is getting very close, but the fact that it has taken me until March to get that far on the Phantom, make me wonder if I can possibly keep up with both GB's or even one of them, for that matter! I'll just have to see how it goes at this point!

Hi Jim,

It is great to hear from you!  I wish it was under better circumstances.  I wish the best for your mother.  It sure sounds like life has been sending you a bunch of really bad curve balls.  I hope it gets better for you real soon.  Please check in with us when you can, even if you are not able to start building here, we still like to hear from you!  You know you are more than welcome here.

Hi Everyone,

Well I really thought I was going to be able to get those ejection seats pretty well finished tonight.  I let the super glue dry overnight just the same as I did for the other side before I started bending on the belts.  But both of them let go.  So I had to re-glue them.  Now I will have to wait and let them dry again before I attempt to bend those belts.

Mike: Love what you've done there but I'd be terrified of having the props disintregate if I accidently turned the tool too high or got the paintbrush too close.

Jim: Ouch! Good luck to you, if I were in your place I think I'd box everything up till things calm down a little. My hats off to you for getting anything done.

Greetings fellow modelers,

I don't know what is so different from what I did on the right side of these ejections seats.  One of the two that I glued last night let let go again tonight.  But at least I got one of them done.  I still have to put the second hanging belt on, but I am going to work on glueing the other belt for the third time.  This time I am going to put the thing in a vise so I can at least get better pressure on it.  I will win!  Angry  Here is a picture of the one that I did win on:

Well, there was one point i was looking at the prop go round full speed, and this little voice in the back of my head went "what if it exploded right now? that would probably hurt"

But i was having too much fun so i ignored it. This was my pre "pew pew" stage lol.

Oh and i didnt use a paint brush on it once it was on the tool. I used a mechanical pencil with the lead extended maybe a quarter inch. Poked it in on an angle so the prop hit the lead and pushed it out of the way.

Ken: I know what you mean about the PE on the seats. Have you ever tried Gator Grip glue? I find it much easier to use than superglue. No I don't get a cut but I've still been recommending this to everyone.

Mike: LOL, sometimes you gotta take a chance! I just assumed you'd used a paintbrush with the motor tool to power dry-brush your props! Hehe, the pencil did the trick- looks good. Cool

Ken, I hope you like it. I hardly ever use superglue anymore. The GG is much easier to work with. As the review said it's pretty much white glue like Elmer's but super strong. One of the best things I like about it is it has a little 'give' to it, so if you bump something glued with it the part will flex instead of breaking off like superglue will.

Hi Cliff,

After reading the review and hearing what you say about it, I am convinced.  And the owner already sent it out!  Pretty fast response.  I look forward to using it.  Thanks again for the recommendation.

Hi Everyone,

Well as they say, the third time is the charm!  I got the last belt to hold.  I started bending some more on the hanging belt and got it looking like I want it.  Now I need to paint it.  I will save that for tomorrow night.  I am taking this Friday off from work for my birthday so maybe I will be able to get some more done then.  Talk to you all later!

SoMM Ken,

Great! Looking forward to photos. Finished the cockpit of the A-20 - normally I'd take some pictures but hopefully I'll be able to get some photos later when it's inside the aircraft.

So I'm halfway with the J-79 aft turbines, I posted them on the

Itchn' for Scratch II: F-4 J-79 1/32 Flame Holders post

Flame holders

Exhaust turbines

Roughly what they'll look like

So now I need to double up the number of blades.

I'll then assemble the J-79's and paint with....Gosh forbid.....a paint brush.

Of course, I still need to ad about 100 little bits to the turkey feathers.....

the little 'resignator' parts....lol...."you got paper work for those, son?"

Hi Dom,

Nice work!  And I thought I was scratch building with my seatbelts!  But nothing like what you are doing.  Very creative.

Hi Cliff,

Thank you for the compliments.  You are really moving along on your Havoc!  Are you going to have to plan on putting in some nose weight to keep it sitting on the front wheel?

original Revell tolerance, so, ahem, I got a football field to play in.....lol......Wink

Hi Everyone,

Tonight I painted the belt that I twisted on last night.  Not much to really take a picture of by itself so I am not going to bother with.  But I am pleased with how it turned out.  I am going to let it dry over night.  When I have it in place I will take a picture and show it off.  I will check in with everyone tomorrow.

SoMM Ken: Great, the cockpit sounds great. And yeah, thankfully this is the gun-nose Havoc and not the greenhouse nose so I have lots of places to load lead fishing sinkers in there.

BC: Those look great!

Well, another Friday night, and another solar Tsunami,

the aluminum foil on my head has a few extra melt spots.......Dunce

I managed to double up the turbine blades.

Mind you, this month's FSM has a guy who re-did the intake fan on a Pegasus engine for a Harrier, in aluminum, no less. -nice work........

Ahem, this is a workin' man's styrene exhaust turbine.......to Revell specs.....lol.......not blue-print......:

Chi Hua Hua! i posted the rest of the uglies on the Itchin' For Scratch thread.

Now I can finally assemble and paint the J-79's.....

The outer perimeter nasties will be covered by a blast ring.......

or at least that's the theory.....

I'll try and make some progress on the assembly and painting soon.....

The turkey feather actuators are going to be even more nasty.......Surprise

Greetings everyone,

Well my birthday was spent baby sitting a Chihuahua (in addition to our own).  We have baby sat this dog since it was a puppy and it is a very sweet dog.  We treat it much the same way as a grandchild (we do not have any yet).  So I was unable to work on my build yesterday and today.  My wife is working today (she normally does not work on Saturday).  My best friend came over last night to celebrate my birthday with me so that finished the evening off.  So it was a nice day.

I did receive a very nice birthday gift!  It hasn't arrived yet but here is a picure of it:

So it was a very nice birthday!

Hey Cliff, that Gator Grip showed up today.  I will be trying it out later today when my wife gets home to take over baby sitting.

Greetings everyone,

Well tonight I finally did some work on my build.  I glued that one belt that I have been twisting on with that "Gator Grip" that Cliff recommended.  I will say that it did grab the metal belt pretty good when first pressed into place.  I will let it dry overnight and then try working with it some more tomorrow.  I still need to cut it down and figured with how well the glue is supposed to hold, I would do it after it is in place so I cut it more accurately.  Since I have not posted a picture of what I have done for a few nights I went ahead and snapped one.  Here it is as of tonight:

Ken;

Here I was, gettin' all proud an' bragging about scratchin' out some J-79 intake fans, and all the while, you've been scratching out a replica of the Roosevelt dime while you wait for the paints a' dryin on that seat!

Not sure why 1973 was so important to ya', but heck, nice work!Wink

Oh yeah, that seat looks great Ken, I noticed you got the spiral on the yellow paint on the ejection handle, well done!
