Qualifies that is.

Sparrowhyperion

It looks like an interesting build, but I don't think I have a kit that qualities at the moment. :)

Not at the moment.  The only F4U-1 I have is that 1/32 Revell nightmare kit.  I had to glue the wings straight because the %%$#*&&@ hinges broke... Again...  And I just got through painting it US Dark Sea Blue.  99% of my kit's are in storage until the Mrs. and I find our own place.  And I don't have the cash to buy a kit at the moment.  I used my monthly model budget to get the Mrs. her Birthday present.

Ah, fair enough, what did you get her? I need to get the little sister in law something for her 22nd. She wants a rockabilly necklace.

Jim: She's really looking good! Looking forward to seeing her all dressed up with decals.

Dom: Those photos make me sad. Guess you can't save everything but as Mike said in fifty years we'll all be scrounging around for parts to restore them. Just shocks and horrifies me that out of thousands of P-38s, P-40s, P-47s, and P-51s build only a handful still exist. And even fewer RAF, Luftwaffe, and Japanese aircraft.

Mike: As I stated over on your new GB I have a few items. I pulled out a Tasca Firefly Sherman I have with NZ markings and looked it over the other day. No space on the workbench now but maybe early next year I'll have some space to work her in.

I went in with her Mom and our Daughter Marissa and we got her the parts I needed to get her computer back online.  CPU, HD, Memory and a new Keyboard.  Now all I need is a day when she won't be home long enough for me to rebuild it. lol

I went through what I have here, and I have a spitfire (Academy 1/48) and a Revell 1/48 P40.  But I looked to see what Aussie decals were going for and they seem to cost almost as much as a whole kit. lol  If anyone has some decals for these kits that they could scan and email me, I could do a set on my printer.  But they are too much to buy right now.

Yeh, but they have a minimum purchase amount to ship to the US.  And the shipping to the US is kind of high.  I checked and they only 12 different decal sets.

Rich:

You might check FlightDecs Canada. I've ordered a bunch of stuff from them and though their customer service is kinda wonky- I think it's one guy running the company out of his bedroom, I love the company.

They carry Ventura decals as well as Aero Imageworks, Leading Edge, Rising Decals and more.

I just ordered the Leading edge F18 Decal set from them.  I got a good deal on the set WITH the resin pieces.  Thanks for the decals.  I have one last Academy F4U kit left. lol  So It'll be that one hopefully.  Otherwise I have to risk life and limb and beg the Wifey to let me pick up another kit.  I should get hazardous duty pay when I have to do that...

This is off topic and I hate to sound stupid, but.....

I need some photo paper for my printer, and unfortunately, it is no longer available locally. (4x6 borderless w/tab) I can get it through Amazon.com but have never bought that way before- anything I should know?

HAZARD PAY WOOP WOOP!!!! lol. The tamiya kit is fantastic and reasonably priced. Its the F4U-1A kit, but has all the parts for a 1D except the modified centerline rack. Kiwis modified it to have a dual (and sometimes triple) centerline rack.

Jim.  You will get a better price on eBay probably.  And you can use the Pay after delivery option to ensure it gets to you in one piece(s) before you pay for it..

Hi Jim,

I use Amazon.com all the time.  The only thing to note is when you see something that has free shipping if your order is $25 or more, you have to change your shipping preference at the end of your order, it does not automatically select it.

Yeh, Tamiya makes a nice kit, but it's usually out of my price range.  The best deal I have found so far is an Academy F4U-1D for $21.00 but that's kind of out of range at the moment too.  I need to catch one really cheap.  There's an Otaki for a bit less, but I never really liked their kits for some reason and this one is a 1A kit not a 1D.

Tamiya kit goes for about $32 US I paid $45NZD for mine, which for a 48 scale kit is reasonable.

I went Amazon, paid under 6 bucks for premium paper and I think I paid about that for standard paper the last time. 2 packs with shipping around $18. I have yet to try printing photos with the new camera. It seems HP's newer printers can print 4x6 borderless with out the special paper - therefor the unavailability of the older paper.

Now to get back on track, how about another couple of photos of my trip to the museum?

Tower Hobbies has the Academy kit for $17.99, and the Tamiya kit for $24.95.  I am trying to figure out which one is better for detail, and fit.  Does anyone have any comments on either?

Never built the academy, but the tamiya is a brilliant kit. Has the option of folded wings or straight. Without any upgrade kits its a top notch model.

Okay, you convinced me.  I had some credit left on my Bill Me Later account, so I picked up the Tamiya.  One question...  are those instruments decals or PE?  Cause if they are painted, theres no way mine is going to look that good.

Decals. The tamiya decals arent flash, took alot of microsol to get them to conform. And the black stripes on the wings are the tamiya decals, very thick. But the ventura ones, really good, little bit sticky when they go down, but really thin and stretchy.

Hi Everyone!

I apologize for not being very responsive the last couple of weeks.  I have been really busy.  I got a new computer so I have been setting it up and transferring my data to it.  Plus my Mom had an episode and went to the emergency room.  I also had a few projects that I had to get done for my Mom.  I have her house and my house to take care of so that keeps me busy.

Russ:  I finally got a chance to take a look at your project build.  It looks great!
