Negatory, Night Rider!  I just don't have much to report in the way of progress on the aircraft itself. I've been trying to catch up on some of the peripheral equipment and those I only post about in the diorama thread so it won't clutter up this one.

 

Currently, I'm building the bomb bay door locking devices to hold the doors in the load position. I hope to have them finished in a few days if the creek don't rise .

Were the upper doors and lower doors both open on loading, and did they

hold the doors away from the fuselage?

Yup - and sorta.Below are a couple of photos of how they looked. The upper door was folded up and back almost against the fuselage. Near as I can tell, the locking mechanism was a "Z"-shaped device that attached to the upper door, one at each end, and to the fuselage. A piston-like bar held the lower door up and out.

umm...sure that was me? I was gifting this to my partners grandpa who served as a generator mechanic on bougainville around the same time that aircraft was posted there.

Just don't "upgrade" to Windows 8.  From everything I have seen and read on it so far, it's going tto be another Microsoft "Bob".  That Metro interface is the ugliest, clunkiest thing I have ever seen.  It's really stupid to try and make the much larger and higher resolution of a full size PC display, duplicate the look and feel of a 7" tablet display.  I'll be sticking with 7 until they don't support it anymore.  8 is going to be a big flop I think.  You would have thought that they would have learned their lesson after Windows Mliienium, to listen to their customers...

The computer is from where I work.  One of my perks for working there is that I get to purchase it when it gets replaced.  But because of my position it is a very high powered system, so even though it is a couple of years old, it is still a very high end system today.

Dom, yeh, I really need to get that FGR.2 finished.  It's sitting three feet away from me beckoning to be complete... lol   I love doing non-US birds sometimes.  Some of them have some great color schemes and markings.  At one point I was going to trry and start collecting Tiger-Meet aircraft, but that idea never got out of the hangar. lol

The Big Revell Corsair is finished, painted and decaled.  I had to use my spare decel sheet for it.  The original one disintegrated when it got wet.  Well it was 40 years old after all.  I killed my last can of glosscoat on it, but it came out fairly well, all things considered.  Now I just have 1 or 2 more to finish up before I strat the build kits.  My F5 Aggressor which I am going to find some better decals for to do in NMF, and my Sabre, which only needs decals and clear coat.

I apologize for not being very responsive the last couple of weeks.  I have been really busy.  I got a new computer so I have been setting it up and transferring my data to it.  Plus my Mom had an episode and went to the emergency room.  I also had a few projects that I had to get done for my Mom.  I have her house and my house to take care of so that keeps me busy.

Russ:  I finally got a chance to take a look at your project build.  It looks great!

My Mom came home after they did a few tests.  Then she went to her regular doctor and he did more tests.  They still have not figured out what is wrong.  She is going back next week.  I am afraid it is her cancer coming back but she does not think it is.

I need some photo paper for my printer, and unfortunately, it is no longer available locally. (4x6 borderless w/tab) I can get it through Amazon.com but have never bought that way before- anything I should know?

I use Amazon.com all the time.  The only thing to note is when you see something that has free shipping if your order is $25 or more, you have to change your shipping preference at the end of your order, it does not automatically select it.

I went Amazon, paid under 6 bucks for premium paper and I think I paid about that for standard paper the last time. 2 packs with shipping around $18. I have yet to try printing photos with the new camera. It seems HP's newer printers can print 4x6 borderless with out the special paper - therefor the unavailability of the older paper.

Now to get back on track, how about another couple of photos of my trip to the museum?

Decals. The tamiya decals arent flash, took alot of microsol to get them to conform. And the black stripes on the wings are the tamiya decals, very thick. But the ventura ones, really good, little bit sticky when they go down, but really thin and stretchy.

Okay, you convinced me.  I had some credit left on my Bill Me Later account, so I picked up the Tamiya.  One question...  are those instruments decals or PE?  Cause if they are painted, theres no way mine is going to look that good.

Never built the academy, but the tamiya is a brilliant kit. Has the option of folded wings or straight. Without any upgrade kits its a top notch model.

Tower Hobbies has the Academy kit for $17.99, and the Tamiya kit for $24.95.  I am trying to figure out which one is better for detail, and fit.  Does anyone have any comments on either?

Tamiya kit goes for about $32 US I paid $45NZD for mine, which for a 48 scale kit is reasonable.
