Nathan... Thank you! Thats a great shot and related info. Again, I knew she had been caprured in the closing days of the war, and believe it or not I found some Strike Eagle decals last night on Ebay! The short paragraph explains alot of what was puzzling me about some of the pictures I've seen.  Thank you again!

Hey guys I meant to ask this question earlier. Does anybody have any CLEAR photos of the engine side hinged access doors/ panels in regards to the panel stop cable attachment point at the fuselage? I have the panel eyelet installed already so thats a no brainer but as to where they attach to on the engine/ fuselage I'm left scratching my head. I have one photo but it is very unclear.

I think there is a 109 book by Kagero that is out of print that contained some 32nd decals for von Werra's 109. Been trying to find that book at a reasonable price with decals but no luck so far.

Nice find on those cals Joe! I have been looking very closely at the Kagero books. They do have some cool markings with them.

Eric they are indeed excellent books if you can find them at a suitable price. Shortly after winning FW 190 Vol.3 I scored Vol.4 on ebay for just over $20.00. Vol.4 covers the D-9 and Ta 152 and comes with some really sweet schemes/markings in 1/48 & 1/72. Oddly enough though I have yet to find a Vol.1 or Vol.2 for under $40.00. But, I do highly recommend them.

Joe: I can't wait to see some pics of the cowling! May I ask which PE set you are using for it? I planned on modifying the kit parts, but that is too much scratchbuilding and surgery for me to pull off...

Well so far the progress has made it to the engine cowlings all but finished. Got em painted, glossed, decal applied to the L/H cowling, a wash applied to both and then a dullcoat on both. I'm now in the process of installing the PE quick release fasteners to the cowlings and then its onto the bird they will go. After that I'll install the cowling stop cables.

I did get both sides of the canopy masked this morning. My dog slept in and let me get that done! Thats some masking lemme tell you! Will paint tomorrow morning and start on the headrest.

Alright Gentlemen, I have found the time to sit down and compose this rather lengthy post concerning my trials and travails with my decals and paint. As I have stated the Authentic decals are horrid and I've been fighting getting them to stick and lay down. Then a belated bit of fortune fell upon me. A couple of weeks ago I won this very nice Kagero book on ebay for $22.00. It is Vol. 3 featuring the F-8.

 These are excellent books if you have not seen one. The bonus of these books is that they include a set of decals in 1/32, 1/48 & 1/72 for a number of planes. Anyway while perusing through the book I found that it had a 2 page fold out in it and upon flipping it open I laid my eyes on this:

The aircraft I am building. AWESOME!!!!! Now, as some of you are aware, I posted early on the issue with interpreting the colors for this aircraft. The decal sheet had RLM 75/83 with RLM 84, the Asisbiz website has RLM 75/83 with an unidentified light gray and now this has 75/83 with RLM02. Wow, I suppose this is simply an issue of black & white photo interpreting and how difficult it can be. With this discovery I take a look at the included decal sheet and sure enough there is the black M & I along with the serial number. Hot diggity Dog! I had , unfortunately, already applied the Authentic decal M & I on the left side of the aircraft as well as the serial numbers which by the way have the numbers too large. OK, moving along. So, i apply the books black M decal (which are Techmod decals). later after the solvaset had done its job I was inspecting my work only to find that I had failed to check the alignment in relation to the left side M and thus had the right side to far forward. I considered leaving it but given that I still had another M left from the Techmod sheet I allowed my OCD to get the best of me. Taking some tape I stuck it to the decal and pulled it off. Along with a healthy chunk of paint. For The Love of Pete!!! If you think that is what I really shouted out, well, guess again. 

 I have to get ready for work now. I will continue later with a series of pics of my, up til now, meager attempts to repair this. May you all have a grand day.

Now for another painting update,  I managed to the first color on the upper wings last night.

I know it's hard to tell but the pre-shading does show through, not as much as I would have liked, but hey that's what post shading is for!Big Smile

Just to add another note, Dortenmanns A-8 which I am building also had the flat canopy but apparently did not have the pulley system so the antenna would go slack when the canopy was open. Fortunately, this is specified in the a/m decal sheet so I think some will be machine specific.

John, I'll chime in here with what I've learned given that I had to look into the canopy issue for my F-8. A-8's it seems mostly had the flat canopy yet there are some that had the blown canopy. F-8's are a mixed bag of both. My decal sheet has half with the flat and half blown. So, in essence, it will depend on the particular aircraft you are modeling. And if you are trying to determine which is which you just need to look at the armored headrest. The flat canopy has the single plate with the bar support and antenna pulley. Whereas the blown canopy has the solid headrest with fixed antenna. I hope that might help.

John: It wasn't exclusively used on the A models. I've seen some D-variants with the flat canopy as well. This one for example:

Joe: Sorry mate, I wasn't able to find anything, not even a pic or color profile... I'm afraid you have to make your own markings for this bird. Kitsworld sells some decal sheets with german AC numbers in various colors and sizes...

Heya Clemens. I looked up that White 13 decal set last night. It's a White 13 alright but it was for May of 1945 and for I/JG26. I can't remember the Werk No. but on Gerhard Vogts it was 210176. He was shot down in January of 1945 by Mustangs. Any luck with that info?

It depends on the canopy. The blown canopy had no pulley system AFAIK, so the antenna fell slack on those canopies. The "normal" canopies had a pulley system.

By blown do you mean the one that is bulged upward?
