Thanks JJ! At first I just wanted to build something different for myself. I mean I've built the A8/ R2 for this build in pretty much the standard colors and I was going to call it good there. The D-9 platform just started growing on me after a few guys here kept turning them out and I noticed that those birds got some unusual camo.........or none at all on the undersides. I figured, what the hay, I'll build one of these bad boys. I am glad I chose the Tamiya kit to do this to. I love Eduard 190's and all but I couldn't imagine opening one of Eduards D series up. So far, aside from the crap landing gear that these kits come with, it's been a real pleasure to build.

I got the wings sorted out without too much effort and then the gun panels...oh boy! The port side took me 6 hours to eventually get it to where i'm happy and it involved removing almost all the inner panel detail and adding a 1.1mm shim to the forward section of the wing gunbay and a 0.5mm shim to the outer wall. Finally to take care of the final sliver of a gap I used some Testors cement to fill said gap. The starboard side was much better and only required me to remove the inner panel detail and again some Testors cement filler.

Is it just me or does anybody else here have endless problems with attaching images to posts - it's getting really frustrating

JJ: Looking very good! Marvellous work on those gun covers!

Joe: You are doing one heck of a job on that 190!

Everyone: I sprayed a coat of Alclad "Light Sheen" on top of all the pits and I like the semi-gloss finish a lot more than everything being dead flat. The clear paint didn't bring out the drybrushing at all, BUT it made the detail painting look a lot more defined as well as enhancing the effect achieved by tha oil washing. I might add some very light drybrushing when the semi-gloss paint is dry, but I'm not too sure about that... I'll just wait and see how it looks once there is no wet paint on the model anymore...

The clear coat is dry by now and I think I'll leave it as it is now. The drybrushing isn't visible as such anymore, but it still helps to bring out the molded details by highlighting the edges just a little bit. I'm not a huge fan of heavy drybrushing on my cockpits anyway, so I'm happy with how the new finish looks (althogh it is a bit on the glossy side) I should be able to post some pics later today...

Joe (Mustang), add me to your list of fans re liking that scheme of yours, and also that yellow tail. Looking great, and I'm still amazed how decals add pop.

JJ, I'm jealous of your exterior fit/finish work. Can only hope I can achieve some percentage of success with my first Eduard. :) We'll see.

Clemens, thanks for commenting on your flat finish problems. You know I don't have the experience to comment, however all feedback and your own comments about how you are moving forward is useful info for this rookie.

Greg: I don't have clue #1 about all those Alclad clear coats as well. I only know the gloss coat sprays like a dream and looks good. like I said, my current finish is a bit on the glossy side, but I kinda like it. I'll decide if I need to get it looking a bit more flat after the 'pits are trapped between the fuse halves. If that is the case, a coat of light sheen mixed with some flat clear should do the trick...

Mustang - I've just realised that my completed Hasegawa 1/72 A-5 (French) is on page one, but I'm not listed in the build roster.

I'm trying to clear space to go again in this GB, I'll keep you posted.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Clemens, what did you matt coat with? sorry if you said and I missed it.

I've been meaning to see if Alclad makes a dead flat, just did and they do. If I am understanding you, we both have only the Alclad Aqua Klear Gloss. Now I will have to try the flat.

Nah, I have all of them: Aqua Gloss, Gloss, Semi-gloss and Flat.

The flat coat really is DEAD FLAT. The semi-gloss is great, but it's almost pure gloss. Aqua gloss and Gloss are both great with Aqua gloss being a wee bit less reliable but resistent to turpentine (normal Gloss isn't)

I actally leart most of that today LOL...

Joe... Dont rush, Your doing a bang up job, and take it from me.... Rushing gets you nowhere fast! You keep doing the good work your doing.

Clemens... I dont know how you keep track of anything! LOL... Your doing a great job though!. Soon as I'm dome with the Japanese GBIII I want to do one last 190 here then I have another Do335 to do! Beyond that is a Stuka build with Bish, and the 1944 GB... Guess I can keep track of some things,,, Not easy though!LOL...

Doug

Oh goodness, another group build that I will definitely be joining!! I would be game for either with either of Zvezdas kits, the La-5fn or the Yak-3. I also have the old AM Yak in the stash but im not sure how it builds up.

Strangely enough, I was looking at my two Yak 3 kits only yesterday. Think I have a Yak 38 somewhere too.

I track all of my GBs in a spreadsheet now, at least now I know what I should be completing.

Regards

Tony

I just have to say looking at the completed builds and all those great models still in progress, it is simply amazing the quality of work being churned out. I mean this is just one Group Build on an internet humming with Group Builds and the quality here is astounding! I was looking through some older Modeling Magazines over the week end - not that old, 80's and 90's mags and the quality of the "FEATURED"builds was appalling compared to what we have even in our little group build...makes me wonder what we'll be seeing in another 10 years time.....

Oh  I also have the old AM Yak in the stash but im not sure how it builds up.

Beautifully!! But you have to take care and follow a few guidelines. I did this one for the 1943 GB and am doing a second one right now in the gray scheme, along with my La-5f:

PS: Sorry Mustang for wandering off topic. Back to Wurgers...

You know JJ I can definetly agree with you on the quality of builds that this GB is turning out. Not to take away from what else is going on here in this forum but there are some really good builds here! I look at the completed builds list sometimes myself just to admire the work. Around the mid 90 point is where the PE market really started catching on if I remember correctly. I was working in Dallas (Carrolton to be more exact) and used to visit Phils Hobbies (the LHS around the corner from where I worked whis has now moved to Pensacola Florida and is now called Bobe's Hobby House) and the completed builds in their display cases were still great! Back then it was mostly scratchwork for the add ons but the AB skills were top notch, and showed that. God only knows what we'll see in another 10 years, you are right to wonder about that!! lol

I got most of the decals on the 1/72 190 yesterday,  just the LG ones left to put on.  only the canopy and landing gear left to go,  and of course weathering.

Oh and the prop.  Anyone have any suggestions on how to make the white spirel on the nose?  it did not come with a decal for that. Confused

Looks fantastic!  I've always used Tamiya tape and painted the spinners, nice thing about tape, you can keep cutting pieces till it looks right to you
