It appears you're getting the problem solved, Rich.  And the decals are looking good.  Nice progress.

you cant get the paint off/down without sanding it?

whenever a spray gloss in the wirbrush or a rattlecan it ALWAYS looks like that apart from halfords own appliance white strangely

I broke out the sanding screen last night and went to work. I analyzed the impact and decided that I would sand and polish the wing smooth since so much of the impact area was so close to the lines and even on them. I will then address the loss of the panel lines. I have an idea for the repair of them in lieu of sprue stretching (I tested my skill with that and found I could not meet my own expectations), I will test this avenue after I see the true impact to to the panel lines after I re-prime the area this afternoon.

What turned out well looks really good, Z.  Nice job.

There is a lot of mystery to model building, including why things work one time, and the next time they completely don't.

Keep pluggin' away at it.  It took me about two hours to  finally get those landing gear doors on the Battle--and I was tempted on more than one occasion to do to it what the Germans did to the original.

I had a similar reaction when i used Alclad on my Sabre, but that was the Alclad not the black. The only thing i could think of was some residue of cleaner left in my airbrush. I reckon a polish should sort that out.

I'm leaning toward a sand and polish and then using a thinner to clean out the edge details...

Maybe I should develop water based metal paint!? This way, when things go bad...a quick trip under a shower head takes her back to square one!  Bodda-Bing...you're all set!  Ha Ha

Rich, those nacelles look awesome!  I hate when the paint goes bad, though.  

ok all, this post has good and bad...the tale of the tape below:

The Good- had a pretty fair base coat going on already and decided to paint the rudder, stabilizers and wing sections as a breather. Also did the cowlings in Silver Plate-Buffing Metalizer.

The bad...back to that fair coat of base. I let the silver plate dry for 48 hrs, removed the masking and plastic and tamiya taped it off in preparation for a final gloss coat of black with Testors. Below were the results to my chagrin. It should be noted that this issue is contained to only the top side of the right wing (approx 3" x 6" of surface area).

the rest of the final coat went pretty well...it was just this section of the top right wing. This is certainly fixable and just a small "bump in the road" (or should I say wing?) 

I'll defer to the quote in member kermit's signature...and proceed with the usual bulldog mentality

I'll have to post a before and after once repairs have been completed. LOL

...or there is always the option to morph this build into a "crash and burn" complete with diorama. I could snap off the tail section, heat  and de-shape. WAIT...not a good option as the diorama would be the size of a pool table!

Bad, nice work on the build, thats coming along great. As for heavy bombers, i am planning a GB for next year which may well see a few USAAF heavies in it, hopefully.

Z, thanks. It can be tricky to keep a GB going, but its the people that take part that really keep it going. The host can do everything, without everyone else, it doesn't matter. A few years ago i ran an 8th AAF GB during which i spent 3 months in the Falklands. Despite me not being able to check in that often, the guys, including Check, kept it going nicley.

29 update: figured I would take a breather from the gloss application effort. I will revisit this early this week. Wknd work was minimal per say, but applied Testors Silver Plate-Buffing to the rudder, stabilizer and wing sections,doors as well as the 4 cowlings. I sanded the leading edges of the cowlings with 20000 and then hit them with polishing cloth. The results were a weathered but chrome end. I'll detail the gaps a bit and post up some pics soon...probably while I wait for the next attempt on the gloss base to dry. 

Bad: the Mech is coming along nicely.

Great looking paintwork, bl.  Should be a very colorful mech.

By the way, did someone say heavy bombers? I've always had a soft spot for B-17s...

That's the only kind of heavy bomber I build!  Sounds good, and I look forward to it.

Thanks, Bruce/Dogfish.  It's been a while since I built anything bigger than a fighter.  This was my first Battle, and usually when I do a first kit, something goes wrong.  I was relieved to get this one right the first time out.

Thanks, eatthis.  It had its moments.  There is a thread for Fairey Battles on the Airfix Tribute Forum, and by the looks of their photos, the builders had the same issues I encountered.

Thanks, Bish.  There were certainly some brave aircrew in the RAF.

More 8th AAF?  I still have a few heavy bombers in my stash.  I hope one of them will fit the bill.

Thanks, Helo.  For the photos, I just back off, take the shot, then crop it in "Paint."  I found that if I tried to get in too close, one part of the model would be in focus, the other parts fuzzy.

Thank you, badlanguage!  It's not always possible, but I like to build models of recognizable aircraft that have a story to tell.  I'm glad you liked the history lesson!  

It seems that even today, there is still some feeling "out there" that L.R. Reynolds should also be given the VC.

Thanks, Greg/pyrman.  The bombs would have been kinda boring without something.  I found pdf for British bombs through WWII, and it laid out all the different markings.  Apparently British bombs were all or mostly all yellowish, until 1942/43, when they changed to green.  They still maintained the same color stripes, though.  It didn't hurt either to find a photo on the web.

Your truck is moving along nicely, too--excuse the pun.  Looks like a sharp interior.

The seat, I thought I'd add a bit of color on the 4WD shifter
