Bish, there's light at the end of the tunnel. The upper wing is completed and installed. Just need to finish the prop and add a few control lines and I'll be able to call 'er done. Should be in the next day or two.

Thanks bad.  I've got the six passenger seats complete except for the pedestals.  I'm gonna work on the cockpit next.

Say, you see that Bandai is coming out with a new MG Sazabi?  *Groan*

There are days when I wish Bandai would go out of business... I just can't afford it.

Watchmann, nice Spindrift, can't wait to see what you've done with it when it's complete. Great progress so far! Eagle, good luck battling the Cutlass kit's shortcomings. It's a really cool looking plane. Artistic license is the reason I do mostly sci-fi models now, it's just fun to imagine a different paint scheme/backstory to a build. Have fun with it, that's the name of the game!

wow, that seam is really bad.  I've got the minicraft cutlass, but haven't built it.  I think it's about the same quality as the lindberg.

The silver looks good.  I'm sure they looked like that before painting. ;)  Have an much fun as you like!

Thanks watchmann!  Yeah the seams were just crazy.  I thought I had the seam situation taken care of until I put the silver on it!  Little more time on that and one more coat of silver should do it.  I'd find it hard to believe any other kit would be as bad.

Hey everyone.  Got some update pics for you on the Cutlass.  So, quick review.....the kit lacks EVERYTHING!  Sorry.  There is little to no detail, as you can see from the pics, there is no cockpit, the accuracy is out the window (and I'm not much for accuracy), and the gaps are horrendous!  So, I'm letting this be a fun build.  I was going to paint her grey over white.....but, as I was sitting in my chair lightly tracing out the dividing line for the grey and white,  I twisted around in my chair to stretch and got a glimpse of my old Pogo model (classic silver with black tips) and thought it would look cool that way!  So there you have it.  She will have a blue section on the tails and wing tips with a black nose.  I know, I know, there probably was NEVER an aircraft that looked that!  So forgive me for taking a little artistic license with this and just having fun.  

No worries watchman, I know the feeling. It will be nice to see this one done. Looking good so far.

Sorry I've been absent for so long.  I think i bite off more than I can chew sometimes, so a lot of my kits don't get finished.  This is a really simple kit, but I can never build out of the box... which always gets me into trouble.

For this kit, I wanted to open the fuselage door, which meant creating a hallway.  After making a paper copy of the supplied interior, i found they hadn't considered the hallway between the cockpit and the passenger compartment.  The passenger compartment is larger than the "real" thing, so it butts against the cockpit.  I've had to scale the passenger compartment back a bit.  I'll use the card interior for the details, but I've had to make the compartments out of sheet styrene.

I've created the floor, bulkheads and the roof so far.  Matching the bulkheads to the roof has been the most tedious part.  Lots of sanding.  As I tried to work it out, I found the cabin floor was too high, and had to lower it.  In doing so, i had to extend the bottom of the bulkheads.

Since I'm on furlough for the duration, I've gotten a lot of time to work on the Spindrift.

Next, I'll be making the eight seats.

Finally got some time to start the Cutlass last night.  Man, this kit is something else!  I did step one and I had to break out the super glue to get the seams to align!  I'm not knocking Lindberg, but this is a rough kit fit wise.  In case no one has this kit or is thinking of getting it, it is a very basic kt, no thrills at all.  No cockpit, a distorted pilot at best, and not much plane detail.  It should be a fairly quick build, but the painting will be my road block.  But I'm having fun with it and my daughter is excited I'm putting it together, so life is good!  Here are a couple of pics of the kit.

Right, got you now. That's a lot of decaling, but I guess its better than trying to paint that scheme.

Bish, Rich, thanks guys! Bish, as you know, we've got the Heros GB coming up soon, but the D.VII will be finished before I jump over there - first things first ya know. As for the decals on the wings, there were 4 large lozenge decals that covered the flying surfaces. The tedious part was the individual rib tapes, plus the wing crosses and some assorted stenciling. The upper wing has 3 main lozenge markings for both the upper and the lower surfaces, 2 for each control surface, and more rib tapes, etc.

So they are Czech and not Russian. That might explain it. All the Warsaw Pact armour we did was Soviet/Russian. A bit short sighted if you me.

Its an interesting looking system.

no we never saw them in vehicle id either. late '70s degign and modified over the years. when the czech republic joined nato they started changing them from 152mm to 155mm. think the poles have some in afghanastan.

the lost part is minor, can fabricate a new one but may not even be seen. very annoying, as with many multiple hatch kits, the turret in this case has lots of hatches but NO INTERIOR. so you can't open them. looking up pics for some scratchbuilding on the second one.

Z, thanks for popping in. I was wondering where you had got to, I am glad your still around. I know work and life can be a really block to our hobbies at times. Hopefully things will work out soon and we will see more of your builds.

Mike, its great to see one of your builds again. I was so blown away by what you did in the WW1 GB. Really glad to have you in here, that's looking awesome.The decal on that wing, how does that work. Is each coloured piece a different decal?

wayne, great work on the DANA. I was just checking out some photo's of them. The look pretty neat weapons. Are they new in service, I don't remember ever coming across those when I was in the army, we used to do a lot of AFV recognition.

I just hope I can take my own advice on the GB's. Its really easy to see a new GB and just say yes without thinking of what else you are doing. And I am as guilty as anyone. Quality rather than Quantity is the key word I think.

I still keep my GB notifies going and I stick my head in from time to time. Mike and Wayne, your progress looks great. I like the paint scheme on the lower wings very much...Looking good.

With new position on paying job...just not enough time to get back to building. Hopefully things will level out before winter and I can carve out some time to put something together. I'd like to do a P-51 in the Tuskeegee Airmen style, an F4u Corsair, and maybe a Japanese "Tony" fighter someday...LOL

Hey guys. Sorry I've been so long between updates, but still, work has been progressing steadily on the D.VII. This is where it stands at the moment.....

Remaining are the upper wing and the prop. The prop should be a breeze. The upper wing will take considerably more time (lots of decals on that sucker - the lower one has 54 on it). I've kept the weathering to a minimum on this build - just enough to highlight the details and show a little grime and a hint of the structure underneath the fabric.

I will add the DANA wayne, it will be nice to get some activity on the GB before it ends.

a friend just gave me a hobbyboss 1/35 DANA 8x8 152mm SPA. as i just started one for SPA GB i can now finish it OOB and keep the new one to try my hand with all the PE. this should be done by the deadline and i hope to have the chinese treasure ship done for local contest mid feb.

wayne, no worries. As always, I am happy for started builds to be carried on with in the GB once its closed. I know you have been really busy lately and I imagine that rigging is a project in itself.

well chinese treasure ship won't be done. hopefully it will be ready to rig by end of year. i'll look and see if i can find a gift that would be a quick build.

Shameless bump. How we getting on guys.

I have no plans for it at the moment. Of the 3 GB's I am currently hosting, 2 run into the middle of next year. Plus I have plans to start 3 more in the first half of the year and Eagle and myself have been going over some ideas for a couple more. So things are going to be a bit busy for the next few months. But maybe towards the end of next in, possibly in the lead up to xmas, we can have a round 2.
