Excellent work fixing the wings Trey , no easy feat I'm sure .

And Shivinigh has made an awesome start on his build .

I'm sorry I can't help with the name of the PE bending tool . The few times I've bent PE seatbelts , I just used the edge of a razor blade .

My progress has been slow on the HH-43 ; Instructions mention adding plenty of weight under the cockpit and cabin floor but there is not a lot of free space under there ;

I squashed up some fishing sinkers and fitted them where I could .

I copied this pic from the primeportal walkaround site of the cockpit interior ;

There's a shroud that fits over the main instrument console and it steps down on the right side , so I tried to make mine look the same ;

I found some collective sticks in the spares box to use and I added some plastic strip to raise up the front seats a little as they sat too low .

Another pic from primeportal shows and overhead console and lever ;

I decided to do the same and I also made a cabin roof section from some plastic sheet with lines scribed in at 45 degrees to represent padded quilting ;

That's all so far , not a lot done but progress none the less .

John .

Whats the name of the tool used to bend PE? I got my seat belts in and need one. I went to like 4 different places today and none had them.

letting the glue dry, put some dull coat to get rid of the shiny areas and I think I am ready to put the halves together. They test fitted really well so hope there isn't much problems.

Good progress Trey, but it sounds like that thing is fighting all the way.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Looking great in here Fellas !

shivinigh welcome aboard the roster has been updated.

I've won the battle with the warped wing. I broke the lower wing in 2 spots while tweaking it,the plastic is very brittle. I hit the wing halves with a hair dryer and weighted them ,while hot. At this point the warps are %90 gone . Next after joining the halves I taped them down and weighted them again,this got the slight warp that was left out. The fit to the booms is decent ,some filler will be needed to fix up a gap on the starboard boom . Still waiting on the seats before I can finish scratching the office bits.

GMorrison

OK I am in with the good ole "Dollar Nineteen", in this case "Earthquake McGoon" from the battle at Dien Bien Phu.

Italeri in 1/72.

In regards to the C-119 build , there are two small issues with the cockpit interior .

Firstly , you will need to file down the raised detail on the rear cockpit bulkhead wall wher the table fits ;

The table sits to high and edge can be seen through the side cockpit window ;

On my second C-119 build , I lowered the table so it sits flush with the bottom of the window edge ;

Secondly , I needed to file the sides of the main cockpit console as it was too wide and caused issue's with the fuselage nose join  when glueing the fuselage halves together .

The rest of the build went okay , I don't remember any other major issue's .

Afraid i don't have any images of the inside of the 242. But i did find a couple of pics via google. Being the glider version, it looks to be rather sparse, just some basic controls.

 I can't remember whats in the kit. If you can get some PE foot pedals, that would be more than enough.

Bish when you did your Gotha didyou run across alot of fit problems? Trying to fit the cargo floor and it doesn't seem to have a sure way of sitting and the directions are kinda vague on how it goes.

and so begins my very first GB. Used Tamiya RLM Grey for the base coat. A friend of mine is teaching me how to do fine line drawing with a calligraphy pen so I can do the panel lines.

Trying to find some good referances for the interior of my Gotha. Anyone have any ideas? Seen lots of outside pics but nothing for the inside.

At least it has raised detail to separate most of them, some are just on a flat surface. Its going to take me a week just to do the IP!

Not seen that before. My main concern would be once i have a decal on and dry, when i try to add another one, i assume they are quite close together, the ones before it may get wet and move. Sounds like its going to be awkward.

The only thing i can think of is to do a couple, preferable not ones next to each other, let them dry then seal and then move on to the next. But maybe someone has a better idea.

ww2psycho

Does anyone have experience in working with individual decals for the instrument panel? Usually I just paint it all black and use a silver colored pencil to go around the instruments. Whats the best way to go about such small decals?

Do you actually mean individual decals for ech of the instruments. I have never seen this before. I have seen one decal for the whole of the IP, but thats it.

I built one of those years ago. Its in a bit of a sorry state now and is crying out for renovation. Looking forward to seeing your build.

And welcome to the world of GB's. Life as you know it will change forever. Big Smile

Greetings,

An update: My decals arrived earlier than expected. Unfortunately, it seems I ordered the wrong ones. I received Superscale sheet 72-865, a 1/72 sheet including St. Louis Blues and Pacific Prowler. Before I see about returning it, would anyone here be interested in buying it? If so, shoot me a message.

Cheers,

Stoutfella

Here we go. I'm guessing most of those participating in this build are familiar with the, um, venerable Revellogram P-38:

How venerable? Well, I was reminded as I started sanding off the 1964 copyright notice thoughtfully molded on the horizontal stabilizer that I first built this kit when I was in maybe 7th or 8th grade. At the time, I thought it was pretty hot. It was also the last kit I built in the mid 70s before leaving the hobby for more than 30 years. So how hot is it now? Not so much. I'm already finding at least moderate fit issues, of course, and major lack of detail. I considered picking up some aftermarket goodies, until I realized I'd be spending 40 bucks for a seat, wheels and vac-form canopy, to try and spruce up a $15 kit. So I'm going straight out of the box save for Aeromaster decals on the way. I'll finish it either as Black Market Babe in an OD/neutral gray scheme, or as the NMF St. Louis Blues, which might be my first choice as my hockey-playing sons and I are all Blues fans.But the decision will rest on how the surface looks once I get this beast together and clean up the seams and such.

Onward and upward!

Cheers,

Stoutfella

Thank's Trey and Bish ;

Trey , you certainly have your work cut out for you with that 1/48 Bronco .

A small update from me this evening . I cut and cleaned up the fuselage halves and interior parts ready for assembly and painting ;

I'm thinking of glueing the two fuselage halves together and sliding in the floor section afterwards . The fuselage join isn't very good and I thought about running a bead of super glue along the inside of the join in the bottom of the helicopter for extra strength and fitting the interior floor in later .

I also cut open the side cockpit and cabin doors and cut the bottom section away where the rear clamshell doors fit . A lot of photo's in the HH-43 reference book shows the Huskie without the rear doors and some cargo netting over the opening instead ;

I added some plastic strip to the door openings on each fuselage half to make up for the saw cuts and filing .

Unfortunatly my kit is missing a rotor blade , so I'll have to open another HH-43 kit and borrow one . I'll write away to Mach 2 and kindly ask for a replacement rotor blade for the other kit .

First thing tomorrow I'll airbrush the fuselage insides and other interior pieces with some light grey .

Apart from the missing rotor blade , I'm happy with my progress so far .

John .

I would like to join in with everyone with the Mach 2 Kaman HH-43 Huskie .

Wayne Mutza's HH-43 book will be a great reference sorce as will some walk around pic's from prime portal

http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/howard_mason2/hh-43f/

After a two month break from plastic model building , I thought of trying to start the New Year off on a positive note and build something from start to finish ; despite having a huge stash of incomplete builds from 2012 , I'll only work on the HH-43 to get me back into the groove .

Here's a proper sprue shot ;

My build will be finished in the SEA camouflage .

I'll start cutting sprue next with more WIP pic's later this evening .

I know its common knowledge that this kit is a pig,but wow I had no idea it was a full on Boar Hog!What detail that is there is totally inaccurate,and the office ,well there is nothing behind the Pilots seat ,literally nothing! No second seat no bulkhead nothing. Still its the only game in town for 1/48 scale so on I go!

Sprue shot,the parts are falling off or have huge attachments,wow looks like those raised rivets would be more at home on a WW1 Tank!

Top and bottom wing halves are warped and  in some really weird spots on the lower

Not to be left out the fuse halves are warped as well

On a bright note the canopy moldings look pretty clean,thankfully!

The flaws are pointed out now what to do about them? Well Paragon makes a resin upgrade  and when they do come on evil bay they go for over $100 usd ,well I paid $12 usd for the kit so thats not going to happen on my bench unless someone has one that they just want to donate to the build.......que the cricketts. That leaves me with scratching and reshaping. I willl admit I did order 2 resin Martin Baker seats that set me back $9.00 usd and a decal sheet for $5.00 usd but I'm hoping thats all my wallet will bleed on this ,we'll see.

First the obvious is the lack of office detail. I used some spent gift cards as templates and fashioned a rear bulkhead

taped those together and used it as a template to make a solid bulhead out of sheet styrene

as soon as the seats arrive I'll plot my next attack,cheers and Happy New Year to all!

I ordered 3 of them. I can use some in some of my Accurate Miniature mustangs that have been sitting around waiting for seat belts.
