Jib,

Since Bish replied to this -->"I would say do it out the box and you won't go wrong. Just leave out the Star Antenna and the radio on the right should be replaced by ammo racks on the real thing, though I can't see either oin the movie vehicle. They may have left all that empty as it can't really be seen anyway"

I say go ahead and keep to your original plans

Hey everyone,

Thought I'd dtop by and see what was happening. It's been a few day's since I've srt down and picked up up a model. Autumn is has arrived and the next thing is that white stuff. I'd say the word, but that is a 4 letter word. But this is a fanily oriented web site and there is a "No Cussing" is permitted Big Smile

Hi everyone,

I'm having some personal issues right now and I don't know how things are going turn out. This is why I haven't been doing much with the GB.

I would apreciate it if someone would take over and co-host this GB. PM me and we can iron out the details.

Thank You,

Think its time I bumped this up a bit. How we getting on guys.

I haven't touched the probe droid since my last update. there not much left to do, just a little weathering. I am waiting until I do the base, which I will do at the same time as the bases for my current aircraft builds, hopefully this weekend.

Hi everyone,

I'm getting on with the halftrack. I haven't touched it lately, But I'm thinking about it for this evening. My local Model Club has decided to a Mad Max build. I think i know what I'll do. I put a semi tanker trailer up on a back shelf when the allclad chrome didn't turn out. I have a Cabover Freightliner that I put up as well. I think that will turn out. This has to be finished by the 2nd Saturday in November. Wish me luck; I'm gonna need it!

Thanks everyone and Thanks Bish for lending a hand over here. I know you have your hands full.

Gone a bit quiet in here guys, how we getting on.

I nearly have the base done, had to let it dry for a few days. Once that's ready I will be adding the finished touches to the probot.

I've been concentrating on USS New Orleans for the Pearl Harbor GB, since it has to be done by early December.  Once I finish this, I'll be working on USS Enterprise for this GB..

Thanks for checking in guys. I know most of us are busy and have a lot of projects. CMK, I am not in that GB, but I will have to check that out. I like your ship builds.

Thanks, Bish.  For the NO-boat, I've been using PE extensively.  They can be a headache.

I haven't been around for awhile due to other matters ranging from health to apathy.  Although I have actually done some things to the Star Trek USS Enterprise model I was building, progress has been less than snail like.  Given some time to reflect, I think I probably was a bit optimistic about completing this considering my build rate.  The modifications will just take too long (for me).

That said, I think it's time to drop back and punt.

With your permission, Bish, I think I will try something different and just build the USS Enterprise model OOB.  I have another one I picked up on Ebay and will do the generic version of the model.  I will still use my own printed decals, but will forgo the filing, filing, filing I have been attempting to bring the model more into line with the original.  Without worrying about accuracy, the model should be completed much faster!

One thing I've learned from this pertaining to Group Builds is that you should probably just go with something OOB as much as possible.  Since only about half of the participants in a GB (and that's being generous) actually finish a model in the required time frame, I think I should adhere to the KISS Principle in the future for such projects.  I'll leave the highly modified stuff (if I post it) to a Build Thread.

No problem gary, go with what ever your comfy with. I know what you mean about GB's. I have 5 AFV's that were finished for GB's but I still need to do dio's for as I just haven't had the time. I don't have any problem completing the builds with all the AM I throw at them, but I am usually up against the clock.

I think the main rule is to be realistic and only join when you know you can complete. The completion rate for GB's does seem to have gone down lately, to many GB's and to high expectations.

I hope we get to see the other one at some point. I have the AMT kit in the stash. I did build it years ago OOB, but this time I would like to do a proper job, so be nice to get some pointers.

On the subject of "how many GB we are signed up for" I guess I'm just as guilty as the next guy "realistically" speaking. I think I will delete a couple of GB Badges I have. Then, if I can get them finished, I can collect the badge then.

I also am getting signed up for my Local Model Club GB's , The Knox (PA) Scale Modelers. Now they want to do a winter/snow GB. So, the halftrack for this GB will be pulling double duty. I have the German Tank Crew in winter dress ordered. They look like they will fit on the Halftrack pretty nice. I looked them up on Mini Art Models web site.

I'm starting to get back into the swing of things. I put in a few hours on the hobby bench a couple of nights ago. Pics will be posted soon.

I should be around more than I have been. At least thats the plan anyway. Many thanks go out to Bish for taking on the job of being the co-host here.  We all know how much he is involved here on FSM.

I am cutting back on my GB commitments. It just gets to the stage where your rushing builds, and that isn't good.

Good to hear your getting things back in order, it will be good to see you back.

For my side, I have the base for the droid drying in the shed. I plan to add the grass and other foliage tomorrow and then finish it off at the weekend. Then as soon as my He 111 is done, I will get to the Stormtrooper. I just can't handle more than one build at a time, I find I end up concentrating on one and ignoring the rest.

i too over commit but i also look for crossovers or small OOB builds THAT I WANT TO DO.  i may have to host a GB or some of my stash i want to build (PLA, JGSDF, trucks, engineer/construction equipment, civilian ships). i don't add a badge until i finish a build.

unlike many here, I have no stash of kits in the closet or any other corner of my apt. So if I want to do a kit, I have to plan ahead for it. A couple kits on my wish list at Hobby Linc are the V-1 rocket. and the M-10 Tank Destroyer, both by Tamiya. The V-1 is for the 1944 GB. I assume there will be a 1944 GB. As the V1 looks to be a pretty simple kit, I will find another for the 1944 GB, but I don't know what that will be yet.

Just had a thought. My Dad flew the B-26 out of the Panama Canal zone . That just might work. Then again, by 1944, things in the canal area would have been old hat considering that the canal wasn't going to be attacked like it was thought in 41 or 42

Finally got round to finished the droid at the weekend. The only other things I did to it was a little AK streaking grime and the orange markings.

For the base, I decided against the obvious Hoth scene. And I decided to try out some of the scenic materials I have had for a while but not used, its a good chance to experiment when your doing an alien world.

So here it is.

I am going to finish off my two current aircraft builds and then get onto the Stormtrooper.

That's one is fine Ken. Nice to see it there, I am really glad I got the chance to build this, a nice little kit.

Wasn't sure if I should add it to the temp roster, so thought I would wait a day or two.

Great Bish, I'm not a star trek fan. Like I said before it looks great

I'm doing a Mad Max build for my local modelers club. I'm doing the tanker semi. Its not the mack truck. I have a half done Freightliner and a tanker trailer. It should come out okay. I made decals for it, but they don't look very good, I just decided I'\m not going to do the stripes. I'll rust it up pretty good and put the barbed wire on it. I wasn't expecting this with everthing I have to do here.

Sorry for the rant, I just meant to say, I like doing true things like the WW2 aircraft. I hope to do the 100th anniversery Titanic kit from Minicraft some day.

Thanks GAF. With all those pincers, I am sure it can cut itself out of there. Or maybe its sending an S.O.S to HQ.

Ken, as you know, I love WW2 builds myself, but being a fan of both Star Trek and Star Wars, I just have to build some of the stuff from those movies now and again.

Then again, maybe the droid and star trek things are true lol  Tongue Tied
