I think I can spot some of the scribed panel lines, Shep. Nice work! May I ask you how you did that? I have to rescribe some panel lines on a 1/48 Thunderbolt, but whatever I'm doing wrong, it doesn't seem to work really well...

I know I'm not in on this GB but there is an excellent reference for this bird. Its part of the Monogram/ Monarch series. I believe its #2 and it has some EXCELLENT reference materiel on this thing. I have the book in my collection and will be using it while building mine whenever I get around to it.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!

Looks like I'll get this started:

As mentioned, this is the Revell 1/48 kit.  It is a re-box of the Monogram kit.  Kit's detail is definitely a little soft.  I've been spoiled by the Eduard 190 I just finished!

I'll be doing the single seater version.

Got the bottom half of the wing rescribed and riveted.   (Not that you can see it!)

I also didn't dig the copyright info in the wheel well.  Total pain to sand out.

The blister type second seat is fitted to the Dragon kit, which is a B-6. I believe a prototype was on the construction line, but that's as far as it got. There was a proposed A-6 Nightfigther as well, and I think this has the two stepped cockpits, as on the Trainer. But I don't think that even got started.

Your right Bish, a few were being studied for that type mission, and I saw some pictures of the aircraft in the midst of being fit for night fighter service but as you said , don't recall any ever entering active status.Very few of these beautiful  aircraft ever entered active service but what an impression they left on the limited usage they saw.

The second seat area can be used as the radar operators position, but the one I was interested in was the one that had a Blister in that position kind of like the navagators astro dome on a B-29. I've seen (rarely) conversions here and there but never wanted one at the time.

Oh well, we'll see, and although I want to build as close to an actual craft as possible, I feel a bit of artistic variance may be thrown in.(grin)Thanks Bish,

Take care

Doug

Doug, not sure if it will help, but I will try and dig out the Dragon kit and compare it with the A kit. Hopefully Dragon will have got it right.

Though of course you have the advantage that the night fighter was never built, so there no way you can be wrong.

Paint it is Bish! I'll give it a go this weekend! Thanks again...

John, if memory serves the exhause dumps were molded into the engine on the Revell/Monogram kit. Your best bet is as your doing, order an AM set. Aside from trainers the two seaters were mainly night fighters , hence the need for the exhaust covers.Really anxious to begin this one but still a ways off, thats OK, still plenty of time to research!

No problem. And if I can figure it out, anyone can. It took me a while, especially at making GB badges.

Bish: Thanks for the link. That program looks a bit confusing, but I'm sure I can figure stuff out.

I just ordered Quick boost exhausts for my 335.  So when they get here I can start in earnest on the build.   Not sure what to make of the original exhausts on the Monogram kit, they had some kind of flame covers that would be used for the two seat version.  But I'm doing the single seat.

I would defiantly recommend paint.net. Ashide from being able to put your badges into one images, its handy for making the badges in the first place.

Freem, as Doug said already, I'm glad to have you in here! The GB is all but closed. In fact, it didn't even kick off. Well, technically it is August 1st already here in Austria (1:53 AM)...

I put you on hte list!

Everyone else: I also never figured out how to post all those badges in my signature. I get the same 512 error...

Took me ages to figure it out. I use Microsoft paint as well, I find it handy for making GB badges to. Once you get used to it, its pretty good.

Doug,

I had to bring all the graphic stuff into Microsoft paint and combine it and shrink it down to I think about 19 bytes or something then I could add about 3 lines of text.  I'm sure I'm not doing it right either.  I don't know how other guys have about 20 build flag and can still post.      O where are the posting god's?

Doug, you either need to make a moving GIF image or put all the badges into one image.

Stop it, stop it! Your making me feel old! (lol) When I started buying those tiny bottles of testors enamel paints as a kid they were .12cents. (Lord I'm getting old) and I had to snitch a little gas from the lawn mower to clean my brushes out, I would'nt even want to try to build a model like that now. (grin) When I was starting to work My first REAL job was working at MPC models. They made every thing at the time, Glue, Estes rockets Craftsmaster paint sets Lionel Trains and were in partnership with Airfix of England.

Oh well, Gotta quit the time machine, Hope you find the kit you want, Chat more later...

Take care,

Doug

You feel old!

I still have a testers bottle of paint  in my paint box that says 19 cents on it!Surprise

Welcome to this GB, Shep! I put you on the list.

Doug: A nightfighter would be awesome! I hope you can find the parts required for it!

Welcome aboard! And yes , a cool plane indeed. IMHO, I believe if the Germans had produced enough of these a bit earlier that the air war over Europe may have been a different ball game. Not that the end results would not have been the same, just a tougher victory over all.

Clemens... I'm still researching some other avenues, and not changing the kit I intend to build , But I think if I can find the add ons I may do a night fighter, I've never done one, and it all depends on if I can find the conversions required. The radar operators blister is not proving easy to locate...

Hey everyone,

I'm in with the Revell 1/48.  I'll do it OOB, but probably end up re-scribing it.

This will be my 6th build since getting into scale modelling, but the first group build!  I've been wargaming for the last 10 years, but hadn't been doing much of it and missed the build+paint aspect of that hobby.  I've always had an interest in aviation, so this seemed a good fit. I've been having a blast so far!

Anyway, excited to get started soon.  Such a cool plane!
