Ok, stick a fork in this thing- I think I'm done. Looks like the powders on the wheels didn't work out that well- oh well...

Thanks guys.

Dan, I used the xtracolour paints, its my preferred brand for armour and aircraft. I plan on giving this the full treatment, so I can't imagine much of the scheme being visible. I found that with the Pantehr I just finished. But that how things are in the real world, so I am fine with it.

That looks familiar Bish - I finished a Pz III Ausf. Late 'J' long 5 cm Vorpanzer with same two tone color '1942' time period.  What brand paint did you use? Looks great, after weathering and sand dusting it was difficult to see its two tone camo. Armor86

Yes very nice work on the Panzer Bish. Like the colour you used for the camo- it already looks faded.

Here the pics of the Pz III. The second colour is still a little tacky, so it will probably be tomorrow before I can get the decals on. But the figures have also arrived so I can be getting on with the rest of the dio as well.

More soon.

Some nice work there Tojo.

Dan, don't sound like Dragon are doing a good job.

The paint for mine arrived yesterday and I managed to get both colours on, the second colour was free hand so I didn't have to worry about the first being fully dry. I should be able to get some pics up today.

Update on the Dragon Smart Kit - 6779 - Pz iV 'D' DAK - received parts from DragonCare - not the right ones thou ... have more rims without the rubber ........ Super Angry  reply back regarding issue and have not heard back yet. Three days now.  I've got Tristar Pz IV Road  Wheels ready for paint if Dragon comes through with some rubber tires I'll just save for spares.  Armor86

Yes I have seen it done before. It's a very good idea I think. Might resolve a problem on an upcoming build of mine.

Jack, Have several Dragon super kits "D" "E" and Vorpanzer E, looking over the parts all of them share the same individual rims and rubber tires. Believe 6779 was based around the 1944 "D" smart kit with the long 75 gun. 6779 is a smart kit and not share - use the same hull nor suspension parts. Dragon Care reply regarding the issue of 40cm wheels which would be used with 1944 "D" smart kit and is sending out the missing part(s). Armor 86.

Wayne: Looks great, the modifications may have been a PITA but she looks like she's sitting down in the sand now.

Thanks. Lots of lessons learned. Everyone liked the base at contest. Some thought they were real rocks. Cool. Going to make a new base for it. As we say in the gfx world, you can do it better and faster the second time.

Dan: Cool, I like having a crew with my vehicles too, I think it makes it more clear that they did have a bunch of guys bouncing around, sweating, bleeding, and cursing in it more than just a plain sealed up tank with all the hatches shut.

GAMERA thanks. i agree on the tires. when i took the pics i wasn't sure if i was going to have it loaded or use the long base and have the gun part way off so i didn't worry as much about. today i decided on unload and just finished it up per your suggestion. NOTE TO SELF. plaster of paris is not fun to adjust. took a chisel to the ruts and filled them in with model clay and then sand. also did another coat of sand to add texture. NEXT TIME i will use modeling clay in the "mounting" areas and try spraying the sand area first with a texture paint, than airbrushing the sand color over the texture. may add a couple of DAK figures overrunning the vehicle.

i also may try sanding a flat spot on those kits with plastic tires. really don't want to spent the money on AM tires

Great work everyone, here is my small update.

Have not done much work on my Tiger, other projects have come up that are near complication.  I plan to have some hatches open, with crew member in them.  Along with a metal barrel, I'm looking for a crew member kit.

On my Work Bench: Tamiya Ford GT 1/24

Up Coming: ?

Hey Wayne- she looks fantastic! Only thing I'd change is maybe sprinkle some sand around the tires to give more of an impression of them being sunk down into it. Otherwise the weathering, added storage, the base - everything looks perfect!

wayne, really nice work there, the build looks great, really nice weathering.

I do like the base, but I agree the vehicle needs to sit 'in' it more. Did you sprinkle reptile sand over the top, I do like the appearance. And are those rocks plaster as well?

Scott, I'm very sorry to hear about your situation.  I hope things improve soon for you. Thanks Cindy for informing us.

Wayne, that may be one of your best works yet. You put a lot of work into it and it's paid off. Nice weathering.

Dan - you got me wondering which kit 6779 is reboxed from

I would of assumed  6265 (which I think was the latest improved Panzer IV 'D' according to Frank De Sisto.  It too could be built as tropical, and included three types of drive sprockets).  Interestingly, that kit had a 95% score on an Armorama review, but the kit you have only received 85%.

Jack

Nicely done truck waynec -

Hope you get better soon Chazzer -

A side note on the Dragon Smart Kit 6779 "not" Hmm - Apparently another model group forum (August 2013) Identified mine current issue with the wrong size Road Wheels, did some digging (open and preview) some of my Super Kits and they have the same rims (correct 38cm) and separate rubber tires to fit. The PzIV 'D' DAK 6779 has them as well but not the rubber tires which were bagged separately. Also believe the Sprocket isn't correct has a 'E' version ... not sure how to correct that one. May leave them, did some reading and found several DAK IVs 'D' would be repaired with 'E' Sprockets due to lack of spares. Email DragonCare and see if they can do anything about it. Armor86. Crying

i'm calling this done. i'm not real happy with the base. i used plaster of paris which dries hard. in the future i will use that for some terrain but use modeling clay in those areas where the vehicle will sit as it is never completely hard and easier to modify for tires etal. i think i over saturated the reptile sand and next time will start with a white base coat on the rocks. WTH don't try, never learn. HOWEVER it is legit to learn from others.

the truck i airfix and the gun is from a canadian truck kit. painted is MMA sand, i think, and washed with oils which i am really getting into.  i added rolled tarps (colored rice paper and powdered), fuel can and spare tire racks, camo net (painted bridal veil), chains, real cable, tarp wrapped windscreen and the underside and frame look great but not seen, pity its where i do my best work. markings for 22nd arm bde, attchd to 7th arm div.

we're all nuts but, as my frau says, as long as we can still fit both cars in the garage....

prayers for a speedy recovery. sounds like research time while on the mend.

BEDFORD PORTEE is in final stages. only knocked the doors off twice which is why the mirrors aren't attached as yet. rolled up cab tarb is on as it rolled up camo net on side. too late to do a bed tarp over frames but i will learn how to do it for my modern 4x4s, 6x6s, and 8x8s.
