Shiv, I say.go.for it.

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys.  Cowlings are now on and enough.weight has been added to get her to sit on her nosewheel.   All that's left is to paint the nosewheel and the nose gear door.  Still deciding.on whether to mount the slurry tank or not.  Without it, Firebomber Cat sits on all three wheels, with it she becomes a tailsitter.  Will have to check the paint locker, but if sufficient paint is available  I'll give round three a go.  Thanks to Mother Nature, I'm not going anywhere until Monday at the earliest.

The paint locker.has spoken.  Airfix's New tool P-51D in Lt. Bill Fricken's markings.   Ol' Flak Joe, 363 Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group.  Second time's the charm.

Shiv, you are more than welcome. The cutoff is next weekend. Choose your 48 hour period and GO!!!!

Lew, I am sure that I speak for many here that we want to see the Tigercat Firebomber, even if you were over the time deadline. My first attempt at weekend madness was the same thing- too much. Close but no cigar, etc. But the host then was gracious enough to say finish it up, post it here and grab your badge, so in that spirit I say the same to you. But a Yoxford Boys P-51 sounds great as well. So do both ;-)

Roughly seven hours into the build, and I have something that looks like an airplane.  Wings are attached and seams are filled.  The only probllem I've.encountered was that I broke the control stick while removing it.  Since it's going on the shelf, I'm not going to worry about it.  While not up to Tamiya standards, it is definitely better than the Hasegawa and Academy offerings.  The Hasegawa kit uses a B/C wing in their D (and is almost twice the cost of the Airfix kit), and the Academy D is about equal in price but inferior to the Airfix kit.  The.Airfix P-51D has some interesting options.  The flaps can  shown in eirther raised or dropped.  The rudder is a separate piece, which means it can be posed, but to be realistic, you'd have to cut out the ailerons and elevators as well.  If you want a contest worthy build spend the extra bucks, euros, pesos etc. and get the Tamiya kit.  If you want something that will look good on the shelf, save some money and get the Airfix kit.

i figued my T-72 was not a good kit and i was right. inaccessible sink wells and flash and it's an old kit with plastic that doesn't seem to even like enamel promer. anyway turret id primed and gun barrel cleaned up lower hull has first brushcoat but will just airbrush everything in themorning. road wheels, such as they are, are done except for touch up. this may turn into a very muddy tank

Wayne, keep at it.

Shiv, looking forward to seeing that little gem built.

A little.over 24 hours into round two and things are looking up.  Spinner and prop are done and she's primered white for the id bands on the wings and horizontal stabilizers.  Just got to measure and mask.  Tried to mask the canopy, but there are no frames molded on the canopy to guide you so the canopy will remain unpainted (yet attached) until I can get one (may just say the heck with it and let it be).  Now that it's finally going to get above freezing, may take a couple of hours and run an errand or two.

Wayne, we are looking forward to photos here!

and you  shall have them. i knew this would not be a great kit given the age and manufacturer and was not disappointwed. may end up with hevay mud. even with primer it took 2 coats to get a good base color. probably don't have to fill the side upper lower hull seams because it will be covered by the side skirts.

hey shiv that's a lot done for 2.5 hours.

hull is ready to unclamp. will have some patching but not as bad as i thought and skirts will hide the under the fender stuff. turret is ready to weather. had an open vision area so added some styrene and painted clear blue and clear red for that ir purplish look. slightly different colors on ammo boxes. found some other boggers but not worth fixing right now. plan is to have this ready to weather and dulcoat it before birthday dinner out. maybe in the garage as it's now a balmy 18F. if not in the bunker with air filters cranked. all will disapate by the time we get home.

hull almost patched. will still need to do something after idlers are attached. still haven't decided but think i am going to overspray lower hull with some REAL DEAL weathering mud. pin wash and mixed pastels dusting on top. haven't figured the tracks as they are rubber band tracks, really rubber bandish and not just usual single piece track.think i will have to paint after attached as i don't think paint will stick. probably have a really small plaque for a base. damn sure don't want anyone looking underneath. off to dinner.paint is MMA dark gtreen.

Wayne, nice build and congratulations!   Looking forward to seeing her all washed up.

Shiv, keep at it.  What scheme will she be in?

At 0141 CST, another Mustang joined my collection.  Will post pics later today if I can get to an actual computer.

Great job wayne. Nicely done.

I am doing my little peashooter in the blue and yellow. Have the paint done just applying the decals, a quick flat coat or maybe a semi gloss and do the rigging.

Excellent work Shiv and Wayne. Really nice builds in a weekend. I would go again, but I have to finish four more before years end, and they are all started.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

I tried to fix my paint job from the first weekend.  Didn't work out so well.

The more I fiddle the worse of it got so it is what it is now.

Here are the pics of the P-51D.

The one on the left it the Tamiya kit.  Leonard "Kit" Carson's Nooky Booky II.

The shot for the front page.  Stik, this was as always a fun group build.  I look forward to the next one, thanks for doing this.

Shiv, nice job on that little gem.  I three of those in the stash.  Now for the Firecat.  Still not finished, just got to paint the nosewheel and apply the few decals there are.

I don't know how much weight I used, but it was quite a bit to get her to sit on her nose.  If I put the tank on, I'll have to figure out a way to brace it so she'll keep her nose down (don't know how they did it in real life,  CG seems to be just in front of the leading edge of the wing.)  Should be done by Sunday.  Will post pics of her completion.  Thanks again Stik.

Stik, I am going to have to drop out of this. I really thought my other two builds would have been done by now, and what with those and other things going on this weekend, I just can't add another to the bench.

But hopefully there will be another next year and I will have more time and less GB's. In which case I will be in, hopefully with something a bit more challenging than the Droid Fighters.

No worries my friend. I understand completely. I will run this again next Fall, so I do hope you can partake then.

Ooooh!!  I see that round three seems to be done!!  Big Smile

Wayne - never heard of ZHENGDEFU, but I like what you did with that little T-72!! Glad to see you overcame the problems and finished it up!  And with a base no less!

Shiv - NICE little Peashooter!  LOVE those colors and markings!  The rigging looks great, I'm glad you had time to do them!  Congrats!

Lew - Way to bang out that P-51!  Kudos for a quick, super build!  BTW, I really like how the cellphone time is in almost each update pic....I'm going to steal that idea and do that next year!

gunner_chris - yeah, weathering is an artform in itself!  It takes time, patience and a lot of practice to get it right (whatever "right" is).  One of the things many of us have learned when weathering is -  if you think it needs more, it probably doesn't!!   Keep at it and don't give up!

Stikpusher - Thanks SOO MUCH for hosting this years Weekend Madness GB! Bow Down  I almost thought it wasn't going to happen, and then you posted the invite and I jumped for joy!  This was my third straight year:  I didn't finish in time in 2011, in 2012 I didn't finish the 1st build on time, BUT managed to finish the 2nd build (just BARELY!), and this year I nailed it on the first attempt!!  I'm already planning next year's 1/35 armor kit....maybe two!!  Hope we're all back next year for Weekend Madness 2014!

Fall, that's US for Autumn, right Wink. I am defiantly easing back on entering GB's, (he says), I will make sure I keep a spot open for it.
