Nice job on the Stuka Tom! Man don't worry about the decals silvering too much as they are the OOB decals. I've had good AM decals that did that so at least you didn't spend good money on decals and had that happen . Good job man!

I think she looks pretty darn good Tom, I could see where those decals might silver a bit.

In the Hanger: A bunch of kits
Decal issues aside, that's a nice looking build there. And well done for sticky with your intentions of reproducing your original build.
We had a GB last year were those entering had to build there first every kit without any AM but just using the skills we had learnt over the years. that was a lot of fun doing that.
Looking forward to seeing your finished.

Here's an update on my progress. Decals are complete and its ready for a second coat of future. The decals didn't go on so good. Some are fine, a few just kept wrinkling up. I may have been a little heavy handed on the MicroSet.
I plan to try to cover up the botched decals with some weathering. We'll see how that works out.
Note particularly the cross on the port wing bottom, both crosses on the top wings, and the "A"s on the spats.
I should have gone with a set of after market decals, but my plan was to duplicate my build of 30 years ago straight out of the box (for better or for worse).
Nice work, my friend! Those spats sure are beefy as hell!
Ain't they just. You can see why they were re designed.
Man that's a beefy set of wheel pants on that thing!
With the exception of the bomb cradle, the delicate ends of the pitot and the propeller, construction is now complete. Those other bits will be added later. This has gone together really well since fitting the wings. I did need a little filler at the top of the spats, but that was it. I did have to cut open the canopy as that comes in one piece. It has a nice set of PE dive brakes.
Tomorrow I will give it a coat of primer just to check the sanding, especially on the wing roots, that it will be the paint job which looks like its going to be a lot of tricky masking.
Ok, now I feel stupid. I have had this book for ages, in fact I was going through it a few mins ago looking for pics of the centre bomb rack. I was even looking closely at that image. But I just had not took any notice of that bit. Now I will be looking for pics of it on the actual aircraft, but underside pics of a lot of aircraft are not that common.
Morning Bish... This is the picture I was looking at, Its from Squadron/Signal publications, Ju87 Stuka in action. There is another picture of an actual aircraft in one of my other books, I will just have to try and find. And yes I believe it was on some "Bs" and "Rs".
Hope this is helpful to you...

Gary, Quickboost do resin ones of those in 72nd, but I am not aware of any in 48th. Its strange because the Aires 72nd and 32nd cockpit includes it but the 48th one doesn't seem to.
Doug, do you have a pic of that, I have not come across this one. Was this in the B models.
Glad you found it, I was going to print a picture I found in a book to see if it matched, but thats the name it gives in the book. There were two different types used. Another type is kind of teardrop shaped and mounts th the underside of the fuselage just behind the wings.
Amazing what you can find once you've SPELLED it correctly! It's a direction finding unit. Peil G IV type.
Thanks!
It's an access panel. I'm not sure for what though. Gunner?

Tom: Nice looking Stuka!
Gary: I believe it is some sort of antenna. I could be wrong though. It does have a plexiglass cover though.
Looking for some information on a Stuka feature that has me stumped. It's this:
It's a round/oval area behind the cockpit that is called a "Pell G IV cover" in one book. Just what is this and does it have a plexiglass cover? It's definitely not represented on the Hobby Craft model, so I thought I might add it since it appears to be a feature of D and G Stukas.
Gary
PS> After checking again, I've found I mis-spelled "Peil". Think I've got more information now.
Thanks Bob, lots of people seem to say that lol. I have the canopy on now, the sanding was not as bad as I had expected, but cutting the canopy open was a bit of a pain. Hopefully some pre paint pics tomorrow.
Tom, nice work. Those dive markings are not easy at the best of times.
I haven't posted in a while (crazy busy at work), but I have made some progress. I've got her painted and "future'd" and have started on the decals.
The decals on this old kit are giving me fits, especially the dive brakes.
Looking good Bish, hard to believe that's 1/72

Thanks buddy. Ye, I guess it is a bit. I guess they can only get the plastic so thin, especially companies like SH and in this scale, it stands out more.
Nice work on that cockpit, buddy! Is it just me or do those fuselage parts look extremely beefy?
I got the pit finished last night and today was the struggle to fit it in the fuselage. Once again, I got carried away and forgot to take pics before closing the fuselage, so apologises for the photo's. As well as the PE I have added one of the resin MG 15 saddle drums that comes with the kit and a quickboost Revi C 12 site.
I am guessing the small flecks are from the dry brushing, but as much as I try, I can't see them with the naked eye or the magnifier. I am sure the camera goblins add these things.
Next up was fitting the wings. That was fun. Not.
One of the things I like about this kit is the pilots target viewing window is included and doesn't have to be cut out.
Now my favourite part of modelling, sanding and filling. O joy.
Reasoned... Sorry brother, didnt mean to laugh at your comment, but damn... that is a PITA canopy isnt it? Mine had no raised lines, just a faint impression on the molding, AHHHHHH!!! sorry, I couldnt hold it in any more, LOL ...I agree with Bish though... any mask should fit with maybe some minor trimming, I've never tried but might just do so the next time...
I think as long as the scale and variant are the same, it should be doable. At worst, you might have to fill a few gaps or trim a bit. I have used PE for a different kit just not a mask. I think eagle is planning on using a hase or Italeri mask for his Airfix kit, there's no masks for that either, but not sure when he is planning on doing it.
Yeah, I thought about that but figured there would be just enough to make things painful. I always wondered just how much difference there is from one to another (i.e., same scale/variant, different manufacturer).
mustang1989 Bish I am determined that the Stuka won't be upstaged by a bunch of whoosy little fighters Hey take it easy on the ol' 190 will ya?

Reasoned, have you thought about using a mask designed for the Italeri or hasegawa kit, I am sure there should not be that much difference.
I wish someone would drop a mask for the Revellogram Ju-87 in my lap... Oh that's right, they don't make one!
LOL!
