Mikey- I found pics and a profile of 239. Hope they help. I really know nothing about this bird except for what the pics say.

A couple pics from the weekend. Here's the aircrew ready for action.I still need to do some minor touch ups on them but that'll be pretty easy. I'm finding this model has a few glitches such as raised panel lines and some wicked bad gaps to be filled on the wings. Along with sink marks on the flaps requiring some careful sanding. It was a very inexpensive kit so I guess that's to be expected; still a nice build thus far.

Tom... Great looking old kit! I have that one in stash and have built that one several times over the years. Never grow tired of it! You did a great job. The old Monogram kits were so cool!, just couldnt beat them for the money.

7, I don't remember it being that much. But I do remember having trouble getting the sides into place, the bar that the peddles are on seemed to long. I didn't realise this until very late and I ended up not fitting the peddles. You have to look really hard with a light to see they are not there.

I built the same kit.........sorta. Mine was a G-1 and that was 30+ years ago. Mine didn't make it though. Nice work for 30 years ago and thats a good looking Spit there.

Joe: I can't believe how fast you put that together

First off, thank you mike. Secondly I don't think you can look for that big a push out of me very often. Things just turned out good as far as modeling time this last weekend. My dogs have been getting up at around 2 am and it makes for long periods of bench time that I pay for throughout the day. lol . I just put a big push on it due to the fact that theres alot of detail here and wanted to get this done so I could concentrate on the paint and exterior.

Tom, that kits 30 years old, seriously. Not only is it a nice build, nothing to be ashamed of there, but you have managed to keep it in very good condition. And its Rudel's D-5 to boot, nice.

As I mentioned my plan is to do the same build (Monogram JU87D-5, OOB) I did almost 30 years ago, the only difference will be my building skills.

So, here are a few pics.  The first is the original build.  I’ve included a recent Spitfire to lessen my embarrassment.  Embarrassed

I haven’t started yet, but plan to by this weekend.

mikey, I think the seat could swivel round. I have seen pics of the rear gunner facing forward. The only belt was a lap belt and a strap behind to hold him in place when diving. And the radio's were behind him, so he would need to turn round to adjust those.

Joe: I can't believe how fast you put that together. Looks great!  BTW, this could be a stupid question but that's never stopped me before so, does anyone know if the gunner's seat rotated. I assume it must but I don't recall seeing any pics of it that way. The GIB is always facing aft.

Hi guys, I attached the rim of the gunner's pedestal last night, then opened up the mounting holes and assembled the wing. The fit seemed pretty good, only a little attention needed on the leading edge and to reduce the sprue gates... Oh, I won't be doing the desert scheme, but a scheme for Greece in '41, with a green and yellow spinner.

Johan: Looks like you're off to a great start!

Joe: That 'pit is looking really awesome!

Mike: It's nice to have another snake Stuka in here indeed!

I'm thinking about getting me a bit of reference material (nothing too expensive, I just want the basics covered), so can you guys recommend any books? I'm mainly interested in the "Kanonenvogel" Stukas...

Right, not what I was thinking at all. It reminds me of the foot firing pedal we had in the Warrior. I guess it wasn't to fire the guns, I did wonder if it was to open the radio mike so he could talk while firing.

Thanks Bish. I've run onto it in the books. It has something to do with the gunners seat elevation adjustment. I'll find the pic again and post it here. I think this one here is a bit pronounced but it broke up the monotonly on the rear flooring!! lol

Really nice work Joe. Do you know what that little object is on the floor in front of the gunners seat. It looks like some sort of pedal, but I have not seen that before.

Thunderbolt:Another snake motif build in the works!! Cool!

Everybody:I buckled down this weekend and threw everything I had at this sucker!!! A little more work here and there with the rudder pedals, IP and the rear gunner ammo racks and we're sealing the fuselage up!!

They and the HGW fighter belts would probably work for the pilot, they would just be missing the back strap for the rear gunner.

Thanks, Mitch, they don't seem to have a 1:48 equivalent, at least substituting that in the search didn't seem to work... They look great! Will try a generic search. M

Thundebolt

Have a look for shop.hgwmodels.cz/.../194-132042-ju-87-stuka-1-32.html, of ones in 1/48'th if your building is  that scale. I;ve used them before, easy to use and can be made to work (if anyone actually needs that), they look great too

Thanks, Bish. Eduard 49002 is generic Luft fighter narness, it looks a lot like the straps for the 109 and 190 -- I wonder if these would do?

I just checked, there are no droptanks in the kit, just one large and four small bombs. Not sure if the big one is the 250 or 500...

Mike, the only belts I could find were as part of an Eduard inieriour set. EDFE554.

I believe the aircraft on the box lid is an R-2, but that makes no odds to the bomb load. Does the kit come with drop tanks.

Here's my boxtop shot:

I remembered just now that I picked up the excellent Black Cross volume on the Stuka a few months ago, which is a highly detailed reference:

The bomb load looks like both ETC-50 racks plus a 500kg bomb on the centreline mechanism -- I'll make sure it's the SC500 in the kit, then I can open up the slots and whack the wing together.

There's the mostly-done cockpit too, but I don't think I'll be painting today.

Holy guacamole, 40 pages in already!

I'm looking around for a set of etched belts to possibly add -- does anyone have a favourite? my preferred type would be self adhesive and pre-colored, but that might be asking a lot!
