Ju 87 Stuka GB

Bish and I were kicking this around in a PM together a couple of days ago and we decided that this could be better posted here so here goes. From what Bish and I DO know is that the interiors of these birds was a standardized RLM 02 until November of 1941 and then it went to RLM 66. What we do not know is the color details of the cockpits. What I'm going to have to do as of right now using the info that I have is to guess and piece together the collection of color cockpit pics that I do have from other Luftwaffe aircraft.

 My question is: Does anybody have any color reference material for the cockpits of the Ju-87? I have some color photos of the D series but its limited to just a few and they all leave alot to guessing when it comes to the finer details.  I will post them here as a contribution to anybody here that will be able to use them.

Nathan, the answer to your question is apparently, YES!  This afternoon they have shows on Pompeii and Atlantis.  What either one of those topics has to do with "American Heroes", I have no idea.

To make my post a little more on topic ...

Bish please add my 1:72 Academy to the official list. I probably won't be starting it for a few months, but I can't see having any trouble finishing it by the end of the year.

I've used resin once on an A-10 and this GB is going to be my first attempt at using PE.  I'll be heading to a couple of model shows in the next couple of months so hopefully I'll be able to find something there.  If not, I have PLENTY of other kits to keep me occupied, especially as I look at some of the other GBs going on.  But I had to promise myself not to sign up for too many at once and limit to one build at a time.

I would probably get some experience with AM made for the kit your doing before you try your hand at that, at least get some experience with using PE and resin. The problems with using AM that's not designed for the kit your doing are that the kit numbers will be different, so when the AM set tell you to leave out of trim kit part X or Y, it will have a different number on the kit your doing, and the par itself may even be different. For example, it could be one part on the kit your doing, but 2 on the kits the AM is meant for.

Also, the size could be slightly different. I used an Eduard PE set designed for an Italeri MiG 23 on a Hase kit. It was soon clear that the Italeri pit was bigger than the one I was doing.

I've seen the stuff for other brands too, but I don't have all that much experience with AM stuff, so I'm not sure how good of a job I'd do making all those modifications...but I guess I won't know unless I try

Bob, I did find some AM stuff for other brands of 48 Dauntless and Avenger's. If you really want to use AM, you don't HAVE to get stuff specific for that kit. It can be a bit more awkward and need some extra surgery, but it can be done.

The lack of AM in some subjects also confuses me.  I've been looking like crazy for some resin cockpit sets for a Revell Dauntless and Avenger.  Lots of stuff in 1/32 and 1/72, but nothing in 1/48.  I'm almost tempted to just by better kits and save those ones for my son when he gets old enough...

I just can't figure out why these companies make certain things in some scales but not others. They do those props for the 72nd D/G as well as 32nd, but not 48th. Yet in 48th they have the un covered undercarriage but they don't do them in 72nd.

This probably isn't news to many (if any) of you; but the series World War II In Color is being re-run a lot on the American Heroes Channel (used to be Military Channel).  

Well, the episode Lightning War has some nice footage of Stuka's in action in the first 10 mins or so.  And then some more quick shots throughout the episode.  It is showing again at 1am Central, so set you DVR's...or VCR's

Well done there, certainly a well deserved prize there.

A nice haul as well. I have just used those AK DAK products on the 88, the filter defiantly grew on me and I did like the dust effects. And a nice selection of AM goodies there.

I also used that levelling thinner for the first time recently, along with using the Mr Surfacer for the first time, I really liked the finish it gave, I think I have been converted to priming.

First of all, I participated in the contest (I didn't get my P-47 done in time, so I brought my royal kitty instead)I never expected to win anything with my kitten, but to my big surprise, I scored 2nd place in the 1/35 armor category!!!

And probably my most important find at the show: LEVELING THINNER!!!! That stuff is really hard to come by and everyone seems to love it, so I just picked up a bottle. I tested it already and it is truly amazing how much better this thinner is than the normal one.

All of that makes me a really happy camper

I was thinking the same thing.  I see Mac on Facebook from time to time, and a few are still here but the rest seem to have drifted off into the ether.  Good times and great fun.

This is also reminding me of the old FAA group build. A true monster.

Isn't that a real pain when you have to do that.

Actually, I haven't yet bought a kit to match a set of markings, YET. But that is the thing with those AM sets, you always have lots of left overs. I bought a set of decals for my B-24 last year, and it came with markings for 5 other B-24's which all fit my own project, so that mean I will have to get some more B-24's unfortunately.

24 pages and this build ain't even on the taxi way yet.  While the growth of my kit stash has slowed considerably, my decal stash is slowly increasing.  This will cause my kit stash to increase.  Take this build for instance.  I don't normally build the losers, but I had a chance to buy both the British and German Battle of Britain sets by Xtradecal a while back.  Now I'm thinking the Stuka will need some escorts and the 109's on the sheet are very colorful, so I NEED some 109's but don't have any.  So off to the hobby shop for some 109's eventually(haven't built the new tool Airfix 109 yet, but I do have the 1/72 dogfight duo in the stash.  Until then, ICM's E-3/4 is a nice piece of kit.).  It's a dadgum conspiracy I tell you.

Unfortunately  the stash at the store is my stash of stuff I need to save money to pay for!

My plan is to not open it until April 1st (hence the weird angle in the pics because of light reflection off the shrink wrap). But...we shall see. It might get opened 'accidentally' before then.

Its awful how that's some times happens. There you are, a nice new shiny kit all safely wrapped and sealed. And the next thing you know, bang, there's plastic all over the bench just screaming at you to put it together.

Ya, and in my case since I work part time at a hobby store the kit never even gets out the door before it's inspected!

Yes,  especially when the stash at the store is as big as the number of kits currently being worked on on my work bench.  that would be about 9.
