Correct stik. Forgot about the wing tip tanks. Yep it was actually August 1963 when a wing from a Farm Gate Invader came off killing the crew and all were grounded in February 1964.

Did a little work today and got things sanded to shape. Next thing will be to shoot some interior green and start working on the IP.

Hello!

Nice cockpit, PJ - looking forward to some paint!

Frow what I read the Farm Gate Invaders were overstressed from the ordnance they carried, and were earlier versions. Just then the OnMark company was hired to rebuild them - initially for missions in Congo. The company itself specialized in converting Invaders to luxury executive aircraft - they didn't have Learjets back then! Just after the rebuild the aircraft was redesigned -K.

But I just love how the traffic here picked up - now it feels more like a group build. Good luck with your projects and have a nice day

Pawel- great idea for the different white colors on your Scooter's white surface areas and the wheel wells; really sets the different areas off.

PJ- Counter Invader is looking pretty cool, watching closely.  I've got the Monogram 1/48th scale (Korea War era?) in the stash, but am looking into converting it into a Vietnam era plane....one day!!

Stick- Thanks always for the little tidbits of info that pique my interest in various areas of the hobby!!

Keep at it guys!!

Been very busy at work, covering down on different shifts while we conduct search and recovery operations.  A big break yesterday, but very sad.

See y'all soon!!

Cool idea. Just need to hunt down the resin updates.

Pawel

Thanks. Yes On the Mark was converting civilian aircraft into luxury "limos" when approached with the Invader project. Those wings held a lot of mud moving equipment!

Got the office done. Did some shading and washes then made some belts from wine foil and secured them to the seats with Future. I then shot everything with Alclad clear flat.

Most of the interior details will be very hard to see once the fuselage is closed and the canopy is attached.

PJ,

That is such a cool job on the C-Invader!!  Really well done! I may have to give a conversion kit a try for my 1/48th scale Invader!

Pawel the A-4 is looking pretty good. I like the color variation you chose to go with for the wheel wells.

PJ that invader is coming along nicely. I had no idea they used them that late.

Hello MAC!

very interesting diorama - looking at it I'd say you have experience in arty - am I right? Pity you didn't post any WIP (Work In Progress) photos. Once I built something from Khe Sanh too:

I'd love to see more of your work - thanks for sharing and have a nice day

Hey Mac,

Neat diorama. with lot's of that vintage red Vietnamese soil!  With the expended rounds and card board tubes, it looks like "Charlie" has been taking a licking!  Really captures the bareness and grubbiness that the Marines and Soldiers on the ground there faced.  "Oooorraaahhhh!!"

I can show you how I made the ammo boxes, shell containers, shells. and spent shells

containers I took a drinking straw, painted it black cut to size and one end i added modeling clay

The ammo boxes were made with balsa wood cut to size and dental floss was used for handles

Here is the office of my Thud. Just added some lead foil straps and had to fill in the gaps of the tub and rear bulkhead that were to narrow for the fuse.

Hey Stikpusher...I find myself strangely GB free right now, LOL. It's funny, I was just talking to a buddy recently in my hobby room and he asked me why I didn't have an F-4 Phantom. I said I dunno, then, noticed this Vietnam era GB...so, with that, I'd like to add my upcoming effort to this GB. I'm in with a 1/72 F-4, if I can. I will clarify the actual model Saturday as I'm heading into Montreal to peruse the almost 50ish F-4s they have in stock at UDISCO.

Nice cockpit Theuns. Did you use the kit decal for the ip? So I understand the kit cockpit is too narrow? I have this kit but haven't dry fitted anything yet. I wonder if the Aires cockpit set for it is the same way?

Yea, the areas next to the "black panels" on the side consoles and the rear bulkhead I had to add stips to make up the shortfall.

Yes, the IP is the supplied decal with allot of microsol, you might not be able to see it in the pic, but the decal actually seated into the detail quite nicely.

I  initially wanted to leave the nice gun bay open, but after having a hard time with building the very fiddly gun....and stuffing it up I will have to close it up.

First off, apologies for my lack of presence on running this show here folks, I have gone from being dang busy to being under the weather with some bug that is sweeping thru my family. Hopefully soon I can get back to normal around here... if there is such a thing as normal here.

PJ, excellent work on your 26's cockpit. Even more impressive knowing that is 1/72!!!

Theuns, your Thud cockpit is looking very nice as well.. I am gladly watching this build! My favorite jet of that war.

MAC, that is another beautiful diorama from you! Just curious but which figures and base kit for the gun? I really do wish that you had brought us along for the ride while you did the work. But I am most happy to see the final diorama!

Hey stickpusher...thanks for having me aboard. I picked up a 1/72 Hasegawa F-4B/N Phantom II. I also grabbed the Hasegawa weapons set 1. True to form for Hase, no munitions at all included in the kit. Anyway here's the box:

There is a NAVY and MARINES version and I am torn on which to do. Clearing up some backlog on the workbench and will get to work on this one soon. I may try to pick up some AM stuff for it, if I can, if not, she'll pretty much be OOB.

Thanks stik. Got the halves together and discovered some low spots that required some filling and sanding. The halves went together fine and the join line disappeared but those low spots created a problem.

I'm debating leaving the bomb bay open or not. The 609th used the early M 31 Cluster Bombs so I have to scratch build two of them so it depends on how they come out.  I have some good reference pictures and diagrams showing these early CBU type loads.
