Hello Stik!

I went through my stash and decided to enter with an Airfix 1/72 Scooter - A-4B with some resin goodies and a nice "Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club" marking on the tail. Good luck with your builds, everybody!

Have a nice day

Paweł

Hello All -

Is it to late to get involved in the GB?

If not count me in for a: Academy 1/72 A-37B Dragonfly w/ Eduard detail set.

Thx

Just got back into the hobby after a few years off. Had to create a new acct. but you can still see my old posts and some of my builds at this link:   http://cs.finescale.com/members/scigone/default.aspx

Stik, I've been looking at this 88 and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I think I'm going to add a couple crew figures and still hang a damaged M113 from the boom. This is a beast of a vehicle. Terry

Thanks, that frees me up to do a "non Monogram" Phantom for here, I already have a Monogram for the other build that is going to be a Wild Weasel IV F-4C. I "need" to do an AMT/ESCI for somewhere, so I think here is where it will fit best.

Rex, I just went back and looked at the rules. I did not specify on there that the subject had to be in theater. So, under the rules for here, it was directly in support of operations in SEA while at George AFB, so it qualifies. If it is just generic training no, but if its purpose was training up pilots to go to the war zone, it qualifies.

Sounds good, Stick! I think I'll go with that one at least.  One of my favorite subject areas, so I might see what else I've got that would fit the bill.....

Hey Tarn,

While I can't speak for Stik I would think you could make a good argument this falls under the "support" part of the eligibility. Big Smile

I have a question concerning eligible models.

One of the models I "need" to build is a USAF Phantom used to train pilots for Air to Air missile shooting before they deploy to 'Nam.

It is the expected SEA color scheme and all of that, but, we know that it never left George AFB for deployment, that unit stayed stateside.

Is this within the goal of this build?

Just checking in.  With a week to go I am itching to crack into the beast!  Still considering ideas for a second bonus build, but not really sure what kind of route I want to go yet....too many decisions. You know how it goes. Big Smile

Dave, that sounds perfectly acceptable. Rescribing does not count as building, and building only the cockpit and sprucing it up a bit sounds well below the 20% cut off mark. So I say yes, bring it on here.

Hey Stick,

A quick question on the GB rules for your consideration.  I have an ancient 1/48th Scale Esci A-1H  that I'd like to put into this build.  It started life with several breaks and deformity in the plastic. Some VERY minor building consisting of building the sparse cockpit and detailing it with plastic bits.  I also scribed the panel lines on the fuselage, wings, and tail plane surfaces.  There is absolutely no painting as of yet.  Would this meet the criteria for this build???  If it's 'a go,' I will probably finish it in some VNAF markings.  Just let me know......

Just 8 days to start. Time to start researching, nothing like the last minute. I like the second one for the air war and the carrier one is outstanding.

They look great Stik. I picked up a Squadron Book on the M88, this should be a fun build.

Very true Bish. Can anybody here design a badge for the Communist side?

Stik, I do like those GB badges. But, given this GB is open to builds from both sides of the conflict, would it not be an idea to reflect this. Either badges which show elements of both sides, a bit like the Falkland's Badge, or different badges reflecting each side, as in the Longest day.

OK, less than two weeks to go until this kicks off.

In the menatime, here are some of the GB Badges that Josiah came up with for here. I would like to have three different badges for the members here to choose from depending upon your subject build(s), one for the land war, one for the air war, and one for the war on the water, but I really like all of the designs that he came up with.

for the air war we have these two so far

For the war on the water we have these...

and for the ground war we have this

Let me know what you guys think

geez, August is a ways off.

I have an idea, if I build the USS Tortuga, can I add it in here, start on it now and depict it as it was when it was steaming up and down the Vietnam coast in July, 1964? Justtt kidding, but, we were in and near Vietnam a long time before 8/64. I know about the Tortuga's invasion force because just soon after I finished Boot, my Uncle showed me his "order stack", including when he left the Tortuga in the South China Sea to transfer from Artillery grunt to attend school at Memphis to learn how to repair aircraft. (He wanted to impress on me just how long he had been "at this before you will even start",,,,,shrug, I already knew he was an "Auld Phart Mechanic", he was in his thirties already, lol)

I shouldn't be impatient, I know,,,,,,,especially since I am terrible for building away and forgetting to take pictures and post them,,,,,,I am already "in trouble" with 3 Phantoms for another build,,,way behind on those pictures.

Here's a badge I came up with..If you'd rather it be a picture of the front of this statue I can do that, it just spoke to me more from the back of the statue that's why I used this photo. And obviously scale it down to however much people want theirs.

M-J and AS, both of you and your SLUFs are added to the roster. My apologies for not getting that done here sooner.
