Thanks guys. That Monogram is a very old mold but still builds up very nice just as an OOB build. I plan on using some of the left over Academy F-4B's weapons which brought tons of extras.

Brandon

Got that Corsair in my stash and it's a sweet model with lots of details. Tamiya quality at its best.

I will be starting on my old Monogram 1/48 F-4J this coming week.

OOoohh can't wait to see that! Especially after seeing what you did with the Academy kit.

I do love the phantom. One of my all time faves. But, I am limiting myself to only prop planes for now but with Star Wars coming that's likely to go out the window. I may ask for one for X-mas. Can't wait to see yours.

Hey there guys,

I'm thinking about jumping in on this one. I have a Tamiya F4U-1D for the Marines VMF-214 Black Sheep Squadron, carrier bound. A friend of mine wants me to build it for him and I am nearly ready to begin. I have PE, Ultracast engine and cowling, resin cockpit so far. I have more than enough time to get it done with my other GB's. Anywho, let me know, thanks.

More done on the build today...I probably put it on a bit thick, I'll see how it dries by the time I get back from work in 10 hours.

Here's some progress on a little 2-figure vignette I'm going to do before the M60. I'll post some details a bit later.

Looks great Rob, those pylons seem pretty detailed for 1/72 and I do like that pre shading.

Are you gonna be able to check in from time to time? Or is it a total absence? Regardless, hope work goes well, and vacation even better!

So, this will be my last update for awhile. Work and vacation will take me away until 2nd week in Dec. Not getting as much progress on this build as I'd like, but, what can you do.

Here it is fully built less weapons, canopies and landing gear:

MERs and TERs mounted. You can also see the mounting holes for the centreline fuel tank:

MER/TER:

And, my last effort for a bit was a grey overall pre-shade:

That's it for now. Gonna have to box this build until December, and, not sure how much I will get done until the new year. Thanks for lookin'!! Take care for now.

Mac, your build has been added to the front page.

I also resized the badges, so Mac feel free to grab one.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

20 November 1943...first true combat test of the amphibious doctrine the Marines developed in the 1930's was tested at the Battle of Tarawa.

Can't wait to see that Rob! I'm still debating the loadout for my F-4S. Hard to decide as the S variant didn't see any action, and a missle only loadout to me seems a little boring...

I threw this question up front and I'm pretty much settled with clipping the pylons off the outboard droptanks and attaching the MERs. So, she's gonna have 2 x MERs, 2 x TERs (with 18 Mk.82s). 4 x Sidewinders, 2 x Sparrows and the centreline fuel tank. A real CAS bird.

Thanks for that Archangel S. I don't imagine a fully loaded Phantom with a full load had much range. So, I'll have a look at AM.

The TER's were normally mounted on the inboard pylons while the MER was usually on the centerline pylon. In some cases depending upon mission payloads, they replaced the outboard fuel tanks. A Phantom with a full bomb load on all pylons was a pretty sight.

There should be some AM sets for the Phantom pylons at Squadron or SprueBrothers.  Having a senior moment and can't recall the MFG name right now.

ARMING QUESTION:

Here's my dilemma: keeping with fine Hasegawa tradition, my Hase Phantom  has NO weapons. So, I picked up the Hasegawa Bombs and Rockets set. NICE set, but, here's the thing, the original kit provided only TWO pylons. I guess my question is this: are MER and TER units mounted on a pylon or directly to the fuselage. I'm sure it's on a pylon, so, my next question would be: Where the heck to I get a set of pylons for a 1/72 F-4?? The kit goes through great lengths to show the various weapons configurations, but, the weapons set provides little means to mount them. THANKS!!

Very nice indeed Mac! I'll try to get those badges resized later today.

In other news, though I haven't been getting much time in at the bench, I did have some success with my other "hobby" this morning.

Got some work done today on the F-4. Not much to photograph. Got the engines mounted and rear stabs. Also masked off cockpit area as I"m installing the canopies last this time as they will be open. Hopefully get the primer coat down tomorrow nite, but, may have to work late. We'll see.
