I've provided a stock photo of the box art. I know theres a resin set available for the interior that would show it nicely with the ramp in the down position, maybe with a couple guys sitting on a bench would also be a nice touch. Terry
Josiah, I couldn't pass up the USMC. Could you please include me for a LVTP5A1 by AFV Club in 1/35. Thanks, Terry
LOL!!! Yes it does! Plt 1133 then Modford point NC, Then Back to 43 "Los Pulgas" area Camp Pendalton! Semper Fi!

Well it looks like a good time to get cracking on my MAW collection so count me in with the Revell 1/48 Intruder for starters.

I was there in 71', Plt-2017 then ITR at Pendleton then NAS Memphis for training and my first duty station was MCAAF Bogue Field. Almost seems like it was only yesterday.
Actually in a GB there is some benefit to a few people building the same model kit. You get to share solutions to problems that might come up during a build, bounce color ideas off of each other, etc.
I know, I know,,,,,,this from the guy that is doing the first ever Mk 79 napes in 1/72, lol
but, there really is more "strength in numbers" with some of the kits that are out there
Rex (got a good laugh at the Chesty "who is she?" photo)
almost gone
Thanks! Looking forward to it!
Great looking -46 you got there! I'll get you added with the Corsair...I second the motion for the -53 after the corsair ;)
Mine is a CH-46E from HMM-365 at New River, the squadron that transported my unit in Kosovo in 1999. I didn't do a build thread but there's a few pictures here:
cs.finescale.com/.../160282.aspx
It was a really fun build and the CH-53 is supposed to be just as good if not better. Maybe if I knock out the Corsair too quickly, I'll join you with a 53!
Kafziel Hi all – I’d like to join if I may! Devil Dawg beat me to the Academy CH-53 (I just built their CH-46 and it was an awesome kit) so instead I’ll start with a 1:48 Revell F4U Corsair. I may come up with something more by the time we get started. Looking forward to it!

Hey, Kafziel - I don't think there is any restrictions on what you build. Just because I'm building a CH-53E doesn't mean that you can't. The More, The Merrier!! By the way, which version of the CH-46 did you build? I've got the CH-46D & CH-46E, plus an MH-53E Sea Dragon. My plan for the CH-46D is to build her up as Pedro at Cherry Point. I've gotten to fly in that one once, and I always wanted to build a model of her. I've taken MANY, MANY photos of her externally & internally just for that purpose. Just gotta find the right decals now. Would it be possible for you to post some photos of your CH-46?

Build one at a time? Hah! That'll be the day!!
Last Duty station I served at before getting out in 1975 was NWS Yorktown, Yorktown Va. and we were the first groupe to occupy "Puller Hall" our new barracks. Damn thing lookes like a Holiday Inn! The honor was meeting Mrs Puller when she came to the "Hall" to donate some of the Generals momentos to be displayed in the main Hallway of the Barracks Guard and admin buildg. Good night Chesty... Where ever you are. OOORAH!
Interesting. I didn't know Chesty got a second star. I thought he retired with one star. Great picture, though.

Nice!! I got mine a little later in 2009...and it'll be awhile before I go back to it....got lots planned that I want to get done before I finish her up. If I end up doing another USMC themed gb I might put her in it,,,who knows.
I got to fly in a CH-53D during the 1st Gulf War, and I was surprised at how smooth the flight was. I was expecting a really shaky ride, but it was really nice. And, in response to you can't wait to see what I do with the kit, well, same here!! This one has been sitting on the shelf since around 2008, so it's about time the box was opened again, and I got some plastic glued together on it.
I'm glad somebody will be building it! I started that thing about 5 years ago...did some detailing on the rotors only to find out after everything was glued and dried and while I was admiring the (scarce) detail that I added, I had put everything on backwards. Haven't touched it since. I love that bird though, used to want to fly em, so I can't wait to see what you do with it.
Ygmodeler4, put me down for the Academy 1/48 Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion. And a big "Ooh Rah!" for creating this group build! Glad to see it. Now I've got a great excuse to build that huge beast of a model..... Just gotta find a place to display it once it's finished, though......
Surprisingly the huts survived as living quarters well into 2002 that I know of. We had a couple knuckleheads that went UA and we sent them to CCU upon their return, which was in the 52 Area in the good ole Quonset huts. There may have been several left in 2007 when I attended the Advanced Course, but my memory not so great as I was focused on surviving the courses and PT. For the most part once the OEF and OIF money taps were full on the huts made way for much nicer buildings. Where these huts once stood is nothing more than a parking lot today.

Glad that San Diego still had those in the '90s.
It does cause me to lose a bet, though. In 1975, while living in one of those on one side of the parade ground, we got to talking about the "Hotel" construction over on the other side. I bet another recruit that the Quonset Huts would all be gone in 20 years and all boots would get to live in a squad bay in the Hotels.
DJ Parkins has Quonset Huts and other buildings in his 1/72 and 1/48 Aircraft Accessories lines, if anyone is looking for something different than the Italeri kit.
Oh yeah... rake that sand, if it moves pick it up, if it dont, PAINT IT!
Excellent!!
Hah!!!! Now that is gonna be classic! I spent a few weeks housed in one of those huts as well in 1991.

I wanted to build something unique for this GB and believe I have found my subject. Although I have a MEB’s worth of LVTs and AAVs, my recent LVT build requires a break from that subject. Then I thought maybe a JM-1, F2T-1 or RR-5 (B-26 Marauder, P-61 Black Widow and Ford 5-AT for the USAAF/Civvie folks) but even those aren’t quite different enough. I don’t know how or why this popped in my brain housing group, I wasn’t even reminiscing of the days of “Reveille Reveille Reveille!!!” or formations and the like but here it is.I found something different and unique, for this group build and to me, an item that I surmise most Marines have memories of from times past. This is the Quonset hut I called home while attending MCT in October/November 1992. I will modify Italeri’s 1/72 kit as needed to better represent the hut in the photo. No interior as I didn’t take any pictures and my memory isn’t sharp enough to recall the layout, all I remember are rows of racks and a trash can in the corner.
well i suppose i can put off my 1/72 LAV and grab one of many 1/72 modern bundeswehr trucks to play with for now along with all the other stuff.
