Top of wings gloss white, radome and bottom of wings painted gloss aircraft gray.
These will be masked off and the fuselage painted gloss black enamel for the Alclad.

Next time I'm going to get the Hasegawa kit. It looks so much better than the old Monogram I have. So according to the link I saw in the 104 painting scheme post, the top wings white,  while the bottom is light grey?

That`s the same scheme (white with gray underneath) as the Canadian NM version.

I used Humbrol # 40 pale grey for the radome and under wings. To my eye it looks close to the pix I saw.

Has anyone had any experience with the early '90's F-102 kit from Monogram in 1/48?  I picked one up on eBay for $17 including shipping.  I'm hoping its a decent kit and I didn't waste my $$$.

I had no idea that Monagram made a F-102. I would expect it to be like most Monogram kits, not bad detail but minor fit issues.

Once it arrives I would love to see photo's of it once you get it.

Hey guys, some really nice work going on here!  I've had little to no bench time as work hours have really cut into modeling time.

I'm slowly getting some work done on my F-102A, getting the cockpit done and working on the detail painting of the gear bays, etc.  Still trying to decide on the paint scheme.  I've seen a couple of really cool photos of the 102 as a drone.  The drone has a really cool, heavily weathered paint scheme that I'd like to try.  Have to make a decision soon - I do like the Vietnam camo scheme and the grey with red scheme too. I'll try to take some photos of my model so far and post them later this week.

Mach71, the Monogram F-102 kit is an older kit.  The one I purchased is a kit from 1991 and I believe they reissued the kit again as a Pro-Modeler kit a few years later.  I'm almost positive that the kit will have the raised panel lines, much like the F-106 kit from Monogram does.  I'm almost positive that the kit will be here on Monday or Tuesday, I'll get some pics posted then.

Mach, I received my F-102 yesterday in the mail.  I haven't taken any photos of the parts yet as they are still in the original plastic bag.  I know that some guys out there collect the models and never take them out of the box, but I figure if I'm going to spend money on it I'm going to enjoy whats inside the box.

After looking at the parts they appear to be consistent with the older style Monogram kits (firmer plastic than some current kits and raised panel lines).  I've also thought that some of the older instruction sheets are more detailed and precise that the ones that are put out today.  The decals that came with the kit are in pretty good shape, they haven't yellowed at all.  All in all, not bad for a kit that's pushing 23 years old.  My F-16D from Hasegawa that isn't nearly as old as the Deuce has decals that have yellowed so bad, that I am hesitant on even using them.

I got the gloss black on, as soon as that is cured I will give it a sanding with the 12000 and shoot some Alclad over it.

I may give this one a shot, since I've wanted to build a Michigan ANG 106.

Try putting the Hasegawa decals in a ziploc bag and tape them facing outwards on a window on the east side of your home. Watch it for a few days and the yellow will slowly bleach out.  Then when you use them, you may want to do a test decal to see if it 'shatters' when put in water.  If that happens, you may want to coat the decals with a decal sealer to keep them together....

Thanks for the tip, I may try that.  I was hesitant on using them because of the yellowing.  I was afraid that if they couldnt be fixed that I'd have to order some other ones or make my own.  I'm still pondering the making my own thought.  I did buy some photo/graphics editing software and decal paper.

Well, I'm back on track. I've corrected the seam issue and started painting.

A little off topic, but I went to the Evergreen Aviation museum today just south of Portland OR.

I took a lot of photos with my iphone and I thought these photo's relevant.

Wicked awesome pics Mach...judging by the colours on that Thud, my brown wasn't that far off. I'd love to see these planes in real life for sure. I drive past a CF-104 Starfighter on a pedestal everyday when I drive onto the base, but, that's the only century jet I've seen close up.

Well, folks, I have got the cockpit area of the F-100D dry-fitted and a coat of dark gull gray laid down. Hopefully this weekend/early next week I can get some color in there and post some pics. Right now you can't tell too much as the kit is molded in silver. Did get to use my airbrush for the first time, pretty cool. Will be using a respirator next time, even outside I imagine that is too much fumes for me!

Yes, you should wear a mask at least. I have Pulmonary Fibrosis, and I do to keep the fumes from Irritating the disease. I've heard that the fumes have cause other problems, even contributed to death.

I'm going to be spraying the black primer this weekend (hopefully) so I'll finally get to experience the Alclad procedure. I gota tell you though, if my 104 look half as good as yours, I'll be happy.

I was wondering. Is your avatar a picture of you in a  Mandalorian helmet? That's cool, where did you get it?

Hey Steve...that helmet is a heavily modified Hasbro brand Boba Fett Helmet. I desconstructed it, chopped the eyepiece out by about 1/2" to 'squint' it out quite a bit. The original helmet was all 'safe' and kid friendly and I wanted to make it more authentic. Completely painted it as well. Fun project.

Here's my progress on the F104. I'm trying a Acrylic Gloss Black instead of lacquer or enamel. I'm doing this for a couple reasons. In one post cs.finescale.com/.../162163.aspx, Neptun48 did a great job experimenting on several different primer coats for the Alclad. I liked the acrylic look, plus it cures much faster. Hopefully I can get the aluminum on this weekend.
