Modelcrazy,

That black paint looks great! I'm looking forward to seeing the Alclad on it.

Thank you Mr. Sherman and Mr. Mach.

I hope I don't disappoint. My wife is even excited to witness the Alclad application.

I'm not really that please with this Monogram kit. It has very little detail, but it will give me experience with the Alclad. The F100 I'm also working on has far more detail. That one should be nice.

I'd like to join in on the fun.  I recently picked up a 1/72 Trumpeter F-107A on Ebay  for $5.  I'm currently working on a kit for another GB.  So it might be a month or two before I get started on the 107.  I'm really excited about this kit.  I think the 107 is one of the coolest looking jets that never went into production.  I've had the opportunity to see aircraft 55118 many times.  It's on display at the Pima Air and Space museum just 30 minutes from my house.  It's been refurbished, so I don't know how close to the original it is.  It will be my first bare metal kit.  Should be fun.  The weather is starting to cool off, so I'll get out to the museum and snap some shots of the 107 and post them here.

That's sweet looking Theuns,

Here's my update,

I shot the Alclad and it goes on nice. Went through a lot of it though.

Found out the prep work needs to be perfect. You can see every imperfection if it's not.

I do not care for this kit or build. I'm missing the wheels and the decals are just coming apart. I applied some Micro Sol liquid decal film, but too late to save the US Air Force decal for the side. I bet I can find a replacement though. I don't think I'll waste the Aim 9's and leave the racks empty.

Looks awesome Steve!!!  I'm getting my nerve up to attempt Alclad myself.  That looks really nice!

No worries :-)

My 104 has the gloss clear alclad on waiting to fully cure before I will start with the washes and decals.

echolmberg is sending me a new set of decals for my 104 since mine just fragged themselves. I have the radome and flat black in front of the canopy to do yet. I should be finished as soon as I receive the decals and the missing wheels, until then I have many other builds to work on. Just look at my Signature line for my immediate active list.

If for some reason I'm delayed on the 104, I have the Hun hot on it's tail.

Theuns, That's one big Thud! It will be nice to watch the build.

It's still slow going on my Dagger. I don't have much left but work/life/gremlins keep

slowing me down.

Today my carpet ate one of the main gear PE scissors and the nose gear light.

I ended up using the kit scissors but I'm having to scratch a new light.

Painting the yellow around the canopy was a huge pain, it looks just ok. On the 102 I

saw in  the museum last week, the yellow was very, very thin. So much so that It's really

out of scale to show it.

Anyway she is on her gear now. I just have the gear doors/actuators, tail hook, and pitot tube

to glue on. I'm not liking the kits pitot tube.

If I don't finish her by sunday it will be 3 weeks, I have work/vacation and she who must be obeyed

insists we go away.

Looking great Mach...I used an aftermarket pitot tube myself and I'm glad I did. Totally hear you on the yellow around the canopy, the line in 1/72 would be hard to see. Mine was way too thick too, but, 'tis our bane as small scale builders, eh?

Indeed it is Rob.

I'm seriously thinking of getting the aftermarket tube.

I think I'll use the kit tube but just use some liquitape so I can swap it out.

Decaling done except for the bottom of the wings.
I have googled may pix of 104's and it seems they varied quite a bit when it came to finishing.
Some had the red line round the rear fuselage, some had more stensling than other ect.

I am trying to portray a 104c as it might have looked just before being ferried to Vietnam.

That's a very nice Starfighter. Great job.

The red stripe was a warning stripe showing where the turbine is. That is/was the most likely area

of danger if the engine came apart. It was there to tell the ground crews not to linger around that area any longer than necessary. I think the started to go away in the mid/late '60s.

Kitty Hawk 1:48 F-101A/C Voodoo

Sorry for the lack of updates but I've been pre-occupied with life. Sigh.  Anyway, there are some great builds going on here.  Very nice F-104 Theuns.  Great job.

I finished the decals and putting on the speed brakes, fuel tanks and wheels.  All she needs now is finishing the weathering on the engines and installing them. Then a final gloss coat, a bit more weathering and some sparse use of a dull/satin coat.

Here is the progress so far.

I'm liking the look.
