Whoever has this kit should buy metal undercart for it. the kit ones are very flimzy.
Mattcoat on, a few more pieces to put onand it is done.

The 105 looks great! And the MER with the Mk 81's wired looks fantastic! 

And thanks for the tip on the undercarriage. I will be building the same kit after I complete two other GB's.

I just started a Monogram 1/48 F101 to keep me out of the way of all the people that are in my house for the holidays.  I have had this kit for a few years and been wanting to build it.  It will be an out of the box build using the stock decals for the plane out of Grand Forks ND.

Just started painting the cockpit and interior stuff that cannot be painted after the fuselage and wings are put together.  

Does anyone have a good airbrush ratio for the Model Masters Aircraft Gray FS16473?  I have had bad luck getting the ratio in the past with this since it is such a thick, glossy paint.  I am using a Pasch VL and MM Airbrush thinner.

I asked the same question not too long ago.  The most common answer I got was you want the paint thinned to the consistency of whole milk.  Here is a link from the Testor site.  It gives specific ratios for their paint.  Airbrush pressure and distance from the object play a part in how well it goes on.  Good luck.

Yup, flyerduke's got it...the milk comparison is pretty close. I just painted my Phantom with MM enamels and I had to play a bit with the right combo of thinner and psi setting.

I agree with the milk "look" on the paint for spraying.

ModelMaster I found to be a very nice paint to AB.

Great work on the Thud Theuns.

Meanwhile, regarding the F101, I forgot what a PIA the fit is on this model.  Spending quality time with sanding sticks and fine grit sandpaper.  Its been and exercise of measure twice, fit twice, then glue.

Hi Rob,

There is a good build log in the Ships section here on FSM on that kit.  As the builder is doing, I would suggest wooden masts and spars and other substitutes to make rigging and the build easier.  

Regarding my F101, still sanding, and trying to get the rotating weapons bay to align.  I will attempt to get a photo set done to show my attempts at building this model.

I'm gonna try and spend some time on the 107 tomorrow.  I really need to get going on it before I get too involved with the Bf 109 build.  That cracked canopy really deflated my sails.  I'm not giving up though.  I really want that Century badge.

Happy New Year!  Slow work on my F101 as well.  I forgot what the PIA the fit was and how this model was engineered,  The fuselage is together and did the initial sanding.  Now trying to mask off the gear bays and flaps.  This is a bigger project then I thought.

I finally got movin' on my 107 today.  I glued the seat in and the 3 piece canopy in place.  I'll re-mask the center piece once it's good and dry.  I still have a little sanding to go until I prime.  Hopefully things will move along once I start painting the exterior.

Good question.

I think I remember the seat coming out on extending rails. Plus the fact that an ejection happens VERY fast. The seat would probably clear the inlet in  a few 100th of a second. I would guess that the relative airflow would be more of a concern, as in any high performance jet.

I looked online but did not find anything about the F-107 ejection sequence.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the center canopy section would blow off.  Then the complete seat section would eject riding the rails upward.  Hopefully clearing the intake.  Seems a little hairy to me.
