Just looked through all the completed builds. They are pretty freaking good. The family should be proud,
ajd-great job on the Jug-I have that kit in the stash and you're inspiring me to break it out for another GB commitment.
Bob
Great job on the Tbolt! I finally have some of that white stuff on the ground this evening, after a week and a half of missed forecast shots by the local media.
Ajd, that looks pretty damned sharp! I will call this one done, but if you want to get a better shot with the snowy background, I can wait for that to get her up front!
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

Nice bubbletop!
How were the wings to assemble, top and bottom pieces? I just pulled my old Jug out of the in-progress pile and resumed work on it. I had stopped at the point of assembling the wings. In gluing them up, I found a bit of a gap from the rear of the wingtips along the trailing edges. I had to putty them. There are some ejector pin marks on the inside of the wing parts, and I wonder if they cause the gap.
The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.
...and I've been lax on commenting on the great builds that have been completed here-Eric's Dragonfly & Stik's Typhoon for example-both great builds and continue to prove that you can build great models without breaking the bank.
I'm debating on what to start with here-kept trying to 'win' an A6-EA on eBay but was unsuccessful-I do have a Monogram F-100 & F-105G in the stash so I could full fill my Vietnam GB commitment also....still a few days before I can get started AND I'll have to run the Vietnam GB request past the GB moderator....
Thanks for the compliments on my camo painting skills on 1/72 scale aircraft. Since adopting the use of Silly Putty for masking, I've gotten a little better at it.
stikpusher Mark, Hasegawa makes one of these in 1/72. I remember building one back when I used to do 1/72 stuff. I find it very hard to believe that in all the years that you have been building and with all the kits that you have built that you never did one of these? Wow!

I actually did start one A-37 model in 1/72 scale but when it came time to add the canopy, I found that the cockpit was too big for the plane! The seats sat at least 1/8" high, thus preventing me from installing the canopy. I sidelined it while trying to find a way to keep the cockpit and have a closed canopy (so I wouldn't have to cut the canopy!) but so far, I haven't found a way. I would love to find a model kit that allows me to finish one of those.
That's not all I haven't built in the 40+ years I've been building aircraft. I still have yet to complete a 1/72 scale P-61, a 1/72 scale Gloster Meteor Mk I, a 1/72 scale F-104 in USAF markings, (I have several in other countries' markings) as well as several other 1/72 scale aircraft which slip my mind lately....
cbaltrin So who is still actively trying to build something here? Just curios. Show some pics boys (and girls?).

I still am. The Typhoon is awaiting painting, which is awaiting arrival of decals, so I have no updated photos on that one. I started on the SB2C, in the meantime, but it's grinding to a halt. I realized that the kit in my stash is not Monogram's boxing, but is a Nichimo copy of the Monogram kit (Nichimo copied a couple other Monogram kits, too--the SBD, the Spitfire, and I think, the TBF). Nichimo modified the sprues slightly, so the kit could be motorized. You'd hack off the pilot's and gunner's lower halves, replace the cockpits with a flat piece of styrene they added to the kit, glue the torsos in place, and install Nichimo's electric motor in the space. In any case, the fit is poor, with a lot of flash. But it was OK till I started assembling the wings. The inner wings are about 3/8" in thickness, while the outer wing panels are much, much thinner. I could finish it with the wings folded, but my Atlantic scheme is out. I tracked down a proper Monogram boxing to finish for this build, and I'll do something with the Nichimo copy, maybe blow it up, or just hang it over my bench.
I am thinking about something else for here, per haps a crossover with my Vietnam War GB. I just had to take a few days away from the bench though. I still have so many partway done projects needing to be completed and that is the real goal for me this year. Reduce the number of my sidelined projects.
I still owe two builds-hoping to get started within the next month....or two....once I pull the trigger, I'll have to dedicate my time to finishing both builds in the time frame.
I took a break from my Mustang. Got burned out on scribing panel lines. Will start back up on it in a few days. In the mean while. I picked up a Monogram Razorback from my collection and started "messing" with it. I guess that is going to officially be my 2nd build. Will post some pics of what I have done in a day or two. Not sure on the markings.. have so many decals for jugs, it makes my head spin... Could be "Miss Behave" from the 78th FG... Well, like I said, I'll give an update in a day or two...
On the Bench: Too Much
echolmbergHi guys! It's been way too long since I've posted here and for that I apologize. This is nowhere near as awesome as Stik's Typhoon but I'll keep trying, Here' s my Monogram A-37 Dragonfly

Yes, the Renwall/Revell Ontos would be acceptable for this GB.
Yeah day late and a dollar short, but would Renwal count as an American model company, they are owned by Revell these days? I was thinking the Revell Ontos...
Let's rattle the cage, crack the machine. Let 'em know who you are, shine to be seen.
echolmberg Thanks for the kind words! What has two thumbs and will be wearing a smile on his face all day? THIS GUY! Eric

Certainly well earned my friend! Your build has been added to the front page. Take your badge, wear it with pride and spread the faith!
Duke, I admire you. I don't know how I would have been able to handle a 1/72 camo on a jet this small. I think 1/48 was as small as I was able to go without completely losing my mind.
Looking great Eric! Looks like your camo pattern worked out well. I need to add one of these to my air force... in 1/72 scale though. Hopefully some day.
Dive in, man! I was laughing to myself at how quickly I completed the Scorpion, which was my first of the two builds for this group build, compared to the A-37. That was just a straight silver paint job with a couple of panels masked off for variety. But now I have a new-found admiration for those who do lots of camo jobs. This is probably why I tend to stick more with WW2 aircraft and the early jets. It seems I suffer from CADD (Camouflage Attention Deficit Disorder).
Eric, your build here is certainly on to be proud of! After seeing yours, I have to build that kit one day. It's been in my stash for YEARS! LOL!
Thank you for the wonderful words! Yes, the Tweet was definitely a fun and simple build. That's what I love about Monogram models. For me, they're inexpensive yet wonderfully detailed and they aren't over-engineered with a high parts count. I know others love the kits with 300+ parts and I think that's all well and good but for my limited time, budget and family commitments, Monogram kits are a perfect fit for me.
This kit went together great and I used hardly any filler at all. I had to use some on the bottom where the one piece wing bottom met the forward fuselage but that was it. I didn't keep track of any hours but I'd bet I spent more time masking and painting the camouflage pattern than I did gluing the kit together.
I'm not one for badge collecting but the Monogram one is one I'm going to be proud to have.
Great job on your build!
That is flipping gorgeous! Never mind my Tiffy... That looks super!!!! The Tweet has her own peculiar charms...
This is nowhere near as awesome as Stik's Typhoon but I'll keep trying, Here' s my Monogram A-37 Dragonfly. This is the first camouflage job in, well, way too long for me to remember.
This was a great learning experience for me. It was the first time I blew up the instructions so I could cut out the camo pattern. Then I used poster putty to keep the paper slightly elevated to give the paint that feathered edge. That was another first for me.
I used Model Master enamels followed by a MM flat coat. The plane went together great but the contact points between the sway braces and the ordinance was just too tiny for me to patiently deal with. I tried but the bombs and whatnot just weren't lining up nicely for me so I left everything off.
So without further ado, here's the plane. I love Monogram kits! In fact, I'm currently working on the Monogram P-47D bubbletop at the moment.
Many thanks for your compliments Reasoned & CB! I'm very happy to hear that you guys like her!
Great work Stik! Nice Tiffy.
Stik!
Science is the pursiut of knowledge, faith is the pursuit of wisdom. Peace be with you.
On the Tarmac: 1/48 Revell P-38
In the Hanger: A bunch of kits
Yeah, I'd agree that the weather might have been a little bad for them! I remember more than a few days being like that from my time in that part of the world
On my bench: Academy 1/35 UH-60L Black Hawk
