Oooooo!  The P-61!  It's my all-time favorite plane.  Remember, when you're done, you can ship that bad boy directly to me.

Can't wait to see how it turns out.  I'll be watching this one!

PJ that Fokker looks awesome! Congrats on being "made".  Modelcrazy you're coming along nicely on the 104. I'll eventually get around to building one myself, I've always liked that shape. Well I've been having problems with my iPad, and photobucket wouldn't upload my pics. Got that fixed so here's an update on my second build, the P-61. Enjoy

I do not care for this kit or build. I'm missing the wheels and the decals are just coming apart. I applied some Micro Sol liquid decal film, but too late to save the US Air Force decal for the side. I bet I can find a replacement though.

Modelcrazy, don't get frustrated just yet!  I have a couple of sets of aftermarket decals for the -104.  If you'd like them, just say the word and I'll send them to you gratis.  Not only that, I won't charge you anything.  Let me know.

Mcrazy

Your Alclad on the 104 looks great. Any missing parts can be obtained from Revell/Monogram.

You may be able to save those decals if you brush on a product called Superfilm. It will keep your decals from fracturing. I had somewhat the same experience with the old lozenge sheet I used.

The acrylic will work too. Just make sure it is smooth and glossy. You can even use future for the non high shine Alclads.

Okay.  Finally got around to uploading some pictures.  I need to let the chrome silver for under the nav lights to dry anyway.

Here are the rocket motors drilled out, and completed with the bombs, and the launch points removed and installed under the wings.

The brittle plastic stymied me when trying to get the folding wings into the extended position; the little tabs broke off.  As a result, I had to just but join them.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

Here's my progress on the F104. I'm trying a Acrylic Gloss Black instead of lacquer or enamel. I'm doing this for a couple reasons. In one post cs.finescale.com/.../162163.aspx, Neptun48 did a great job experimenting on several different primer coats for the Alclad. I liked the acrylic look, plus it cures much faster. Hopefully I can get the aluminum on this weekend.

Excellent work so far guys.

I was hoping to be done sooner but the struts if mounted as per the instructions would have been easier to mount the top wing but not to apply the lozenge on the bottom of it. It would have left a messy gap so I glued the struts to the top wing and set it aside to dry then carefully sliced them off and attached them to the fuselage first. The messy gap under the top wing was filled with bondo glazing putty and sanded smooth. The lozenge decal went on fine. I still have to add a couple of small lozenge  pieces on the bottom tips.

I then turned the plane upside down and dry fitted the wing at the correct angle using a small box to keep the tail up. I then carefully Tenaxed the struts to the wing and set it aside to cure. The MM bottles keep things in place while curing.

The wheels are dark grey with the pale gray tires

The completed prop with the Axial  logos and a coat of Future for the varnished look.

I also brushed on several Future coats on the fuselage for the decal application.

Build #1

Here is my Bell P-39D of the 39th Pursuit Squadron, 31st Pursuit Group based at Selfridge Field in Michigan during the later part of 1941.

Note the blue bomb. Selfridge Field was constructed on the shore of Lake St. Clair, and it is my understanding that they used the lake extensively for practice bombing. I found out that for the most part, practice bombs of that era were usually painted in light blue. I had never seen any light blue practice bombs on here, so I figured why not? I cut the fuse of and decided RLM 65 looked like a close enough match for me.

Wow... I see I missed quite a bit of work here over the past week or two. I have not been minding the store as I should have been doing. Well Apologioes to all here about all I have missed. I have added most to the front page roster.

MJ, can I ask you to please get some photos of your F4U with a plain background? A piece of paper or cloth works wonders for eliminating background clutter and drawing all attention to your build. I would ask that of everybody here to do the same.

Eagel, is there any chance I can get you to get a photo of the jeep & gun in the same shot?\

Anyways, keep up the great work guys! I am loving the results here!

Mark go grab your stinking badge off the roster- you are made my freind!

No problem boss.  Hows this?

Matt-Joachim

Thanks to all! I placed sticky tack underneath to hold the doors in proper position while the glue dried. The tape method sounds cool but i wanted to keep the panel lines of the doors themselves.

Matt, please don't use the Scotch tape method! LOL! To the mind of a 15 year old kid, it made perfect sense but in reality, you could see the serrated ends of the tape where the tape dispenser cut it. I also didn't apply the tape perfectly so there was a nice "dent" in it, too. Eric

So at 3:16 PM I recieved an email from Revell customer support informing me that my gear strut had shipped today. At about 3:58 PM, I discovered a box from Revell with a landing gear strut inside my mail box. Apparently Clark Kent is moonlighting...
