48 hours is tough to get a kit finished.

Jelliot-looks great-especially given the time constraints.I'd be proud to have it in my collection.

Stowage is on the T34, along with rims & treads.  Amazing thing about very old Tamiya one piece treads-they twist and shrink.  A few minutes in front of the wife's hair dryer helped.

Waiting for glue to dry a bit more and let the Tamiya paint cure as long as possible before the oil dot fading & pin wash-I ordered some Future (amazing that no one carries it any longer) but it didn't arrive in time...somewhat nervous about oil dot fading without a coat of Future, but it should not be a problem.

Have to leave the house in about 3 hours-will post final pics later tonight.

It's done-well, we all know that a model is never done but given my poor planning, I've done all I can within the time limits.  With better planning, I would have done a better job with the dot filtering & pin wash, along with some weathering.

Having said that, I am pleased with the results-this is the first kit that I've completed in over a year-on that note, thank you Lewbud for running this GB and to all the members for your fine builds to prove it can be done in 48hrs and your encouraging words during the builds.

jelliott523 - That is one fine looking Bearcat you built!  I really like how the dark blue on top fades to the sea blue and then to the gray on the bottom...nice!  Congrats on getting it done in time.  I hear ya about being satisfied with a build even though it was built to so quickly.  Sometimes I wonder if we spend too much time trying to make a model perfect when the only person who'll really know the difference is us, the builders!!

Bob - YAY!!!  A tank!!  I thought I might be the only one with an armor kit in the GB!!  Kudos on the quick and excellent build there!  I do like the weathering you were able to accomplish in such short time!  Perfect choice for the GB!  I have this kit in the stash and I contemplated choosing it instead of the Panzerspahwagen, but I knew my AMS would have kicked in and made me try to improve the heck out of it!! 

Finally grabbed the badge and added it! 

lew - is the weekend of 12/21-12/23 open?  I pretty sure I will have time for a 2nd entry!  All these quick AC builds are creating an itch that I want to scratch with that 1/72 Hobby Boss P-47D Thunderbolt.

Buffle-thanks for the compliments.  It was really a fun GB and I think it is one that should be held again..  did you catch that lewbud?   It is amazing to see what can be accomplished in such a short amount of time and still come out looking good.  It definitely challenges you to do things you wouldn't normally do.  I know one of my biggest fears was trying to paint something and then work with it and not have the paint completely dry.  I couldn't believe that I actually used Pledge Multi-Floor on this thing and decaled it without letting it dry for at least a couple of days.  The PMF was still tacky when I applied the decals, I think it actually may have helped to get them to conform to the surface details.

jelliot-Getting people out of their comfort zones a little is what this GB is all about, (well actually it's about finishing something, but that's another story).  I've participated in this build for at least the last five years and each attempt whether successful or not (and there are a lot of nots) was a fun learning experience.  Don't worry, this build will be back next year.  The fun's not over yet, you still have this week end to bang something out.  Take some time and go back and look at the build threads from previous years, it's quite entertaining!

i'm in with a trumpeter OTS (One True Scale) T-55 mine roller, probably syrian.  plan to start on tuesday after lunch.

Wayne, I've updated the front page with your build.  Look forward to watching it come together!

I figure I'll add a little more weathering while I'm working on my other T-34 for the Orphaned Armor GB but it's great to be able to go back to what building a model was before becoming annal about the details, weathering, etc.  I really enjoyed the challenge and then seeing a completed model that looks like a T-34...at least from a distance.....

Thank you Brandon-the key is to get something Tamiya like-the sooner it is together, the more time you have for details & weathering.

OTS T-55 mineroller is primed and drying. picked up some vallejo air (desert sand) for a syrian one. paint seemed to work well on JAGDTIGER. now it's a race between getting it done and the flu.

Good luck Waynec, sorry to hear about the flu bug.  I know its been going around like crazy here in Idaho.  From the ones I know who contracted it here, it was not a pretty situation.  Stay healthy my friend!

it's officially a cold and not the flu. will take it easy the next week. started this tuesday. going to try VALLEJO AIR again since it seems to be ok on the JAGDTIGER. 

Looks good Wayne-I'm always impressed when someone does a 1/72 armor-a bit too small for my fingers....also glad to hear that it's not the flu....although a cold can be bad enough.

thank you. just got into this scale this year. here is the basecoat. turns out i bought desert sand surface primer, not paint, and didn't realize until it was all painted. now we'll see how VALLEJO holds up under an oil wash. external fuel tanks were the usual seam PITA. the tracks did well.

This was fun, one of those that looks bad until the end. the only annoying part of the build was the seam on the halves of the rear external fuel tanks, even a problem in 1/35. the hand rails are a tad thick but, as this was a 48 hour build , i left them. i glued the track together and let them sit overnight. after putting them on i  spread cya over the middle road wheels and wedged soft ear plugs under the fender until they dried. putting it together i noticed places i missed with the painting. 

with no clear coat barrier i washed the rod wheels with burnt umber oils. the upper hull and turret got a yellow ochre wash followed by a burnt umber wash. that was followed by some TAMIYA weathering powder. i hand painted arab numbers on the turret.

given all the mistakes it turned out nicely. i think i will make a small golan heights base for it, this one is just generic.

1/72 armor?  Wow.  I couldn't try that with my huge fingers!  Well done sir.

Going to try to start number three sometime this evening.  Clearing off the bench now.

I am interesting in trying this challenge.  I am one who was once known to finish a model in a few days.  Now, it takes me years and I'm in the biggest funk for not being able to finish something.  I need a goal, a deadline, and want to try, starting at 7pm, Friday, December 19, to build a Nachimo 1/200 scale Type IXC UBoat.  I have had this kit for years trying to come up with  a reason to build it, and with its small part count, should be an easy one, except, I am now Mr. Perfectionist who gives into procrastination.  Yup, another UBoat in the fleet.

Due to my internet connection, I am not able ot upload pictures at this time, but will take them throughout the build.

I got my computer up and running and here are the pictures from last night.

Had a time of it installing the drive system.  This kit was designed to be motorized and nothing fit.  Had to do a lot of sanding and filing to get everything to line up.  But it was fun.

Got must of the upper works done, filling with putty, and pre-shading completed before going to bed. Today I will be painting the lower hull and priming the upper works.  Of coarse. had to set up my computer and now the furnace just through a belt, so its going to be a fun filled day of house maintenance with breaks in between to paint.

The Madness continues!!

Wayne - Nice looking T-55!  Very fast build even with the minesweeper assembly!  The paint job and weathering look great! 

Caveman - Looking forward to your quick build Skyhawk!  What is this, number 4 for the Group Build?  You're going to win an award for most builds completed in this GB!!

scottrc - The Type IX U-boat is coming along nicely!  Nice to see another U-Boat to compliment the one Stikpusher built earlier!

ajd3530 - nice selection for the GB!  Don't know much about Pegasus kits, but hopefully it builds up quick!
