Thanks PJ. Nice work on the camo there, and there's that foam again. That defiantly looks better than stuffing the pit with tissue.

Great job on that frame Bish and can imagine being a PITA attaching the acetate to it. The yellow looks good so you licked the problem there. I use MM enamel RLM04 and never had a problem spraying it.

I also made a little progress and would have been almost done with the painting and mottling except I had my neighbor across the street come to me this morning for help after her truck died in her driveway. We got it straightened out but lost a few hours in the process.

I shot the RLM74 and taped the areas for the splinter pattern on the wings and tail feathers. The fuselage was done freehand with my Badger Renegade.

Then shot the RLM75. I still have to go back and re spray some small areas to correct them. The RLM74 and 75 mottling will be next in line.

That's ok Greg. I also have a full range of Tamiya as I use those a lot for uniforms and small detailed painting.

I had forgotten that you use mostly enamels, Bish. Oops

Ye, going to be interesting to see how those clear sections work out, those will be done right towards the end. I have a lot of experience with PE, but these were a pain. certainly not for a PE novice. Now that's a thought. I use enamels mostly, but I can usually spray other colours no problem, even the white was ok and that was on the same grey primer. I have sprayed this yellow before on fuselage bands and wing tips, so maybe I was having a bad couple of sessions. Bt I will look into that mix. thanks.

Bish, tip of the hat for persevering on that PE canopy. I have a very strong dislike for working with acetate or whatever the thin clear material is called. I pretty much can't wait to see what you are able to do with it with your skillsets! But I get ahead of myself.....nice job on the PE. I can't quite imagine what it took but it surely looks good, buddy.

Random thought on the yellow.....

I'd been using MM acrylic gelb for the color gelb, (duh), until I got fed up with it. Moved to Tamiya flat yellow, much better. Then it occurred to me I had read on FSM somewhere a tip to add a bit of red to yellow. I tried that on my yellow-nosed Stuka. Ended up being about 30-35 drops Tamiya flat yellow to 1 drop red. Matched the kit yellow decals almost spot on, and I really like the color.

Just a thought, because I know you are going through a yellow-nose thing. Smile

Well, after the struggle with the yellow, i finally got it sorted, with a good lesson learned in the process, and got some paint on this bird. But first of all the canopy. I got the main piece put together, its not all that neat as its very thin PE which i found awkward to bend, especially on the inside pieces. Overall, while these PE canopy's are nice, i am not sure they are worth the effort given how thin and well detaile dthe kit one is and any shortcomings are dealt with by the Eduard PE set. But i do have the one for the G, so maybe i might change my mind after that.

The white and yellow markings were applied, the white went down fine, but the yellow took me 3 attempts to get right.

Once dried i got those areas masked up and the underside painted. I did that yesterday and today its touch dry, but i will leave it until tomorrow before masking and painting the top. But it does mean i can un mask the wheel wells and fit her legs on.

I alsogbot the figure put together and primed. I know, black figure on a black base, not the best way to take a pic.

And finally a pic of the tail wheel. The decals include a white one for the sides of the wheel. But one pic i saw showed the white well worn, which i gues would not take long in the desert. So i painted the wheel NATO Black. Then i did the white useing Tamiya flat white but not properly mixed. Finally i used the NATO black again, this time with out stiring, and went over the white.

I still have to paint the strut of it RLM 02.

And thats all for now folks.

Bish

White Primer is good but regular model paint will also do. I shot MM flat white enamel. The white color cuts down on the amount of multiple coats yellow or red need to get an even tone.

I have been meaning to get some white primer but keep putting it off. I have now made sure its on the list for my next Hannants order. But it seems to have worked this time, my problem was the coats were just to thick. I have some foam like that I use to secure figures while drying, I had not thought of using it for that.

Thanks Bish. I always shoot white first when using yellow or red. It just makes things easier and the colors more even.

The masking material is some type of very soft packing foam that I saved from the trash. It conforms purty good around odd shapes.

Looks good PJ. You have had better luck than me with the RLM 04. Tonight is my 3rd attempt at getting it right, so its put me back a few days. I like how you masked the wheel wells, will have to remember that.

Thanks gents for the comments. Two days and no activity so I will post my progress.

I'm not trying to correct everything with the kit but just a few things here and there like the radiator actuators. I just stretched out some sprue and glued them in place. Took me a good hour to secure all three of them.

Took care of some sink holes on the prop faces

Will be doing Karl Rammelt's Gustav and using the kit supplied decals. It had white wingtips (underside), yellow RLM04 for the cowl underside, and solid RLM70 spinner. There is also a fuselage band in RLM74 and a white rudder.

So I shot the underwing tips and rudder white . The cowl also got some white and then sparayed the RLM04 over it. The white underpaint makes the yellow color look better and uniform.

I will be spraying the RLM76 next followed by the top colors.

I do like Aires pits, that does look a nice one jay. Looks like you did a good job on the masking PJ, at least I don't have that to worry about.

Jay

That Aires pit looks sweet. I like the details they pack into their AM sets. It's looking very sharp.

I finally got some free time and did some work on my G-6. Got the tail feathers aligned and glued in place.

Spent the entire evening masking the inside and outside of the canopy. This is where the Eduard masks come in very handy. I will be using them on my other 4 109's.

I shot RLM 66 inside and RLM 75 outside and carefully removed the masking tape masks

I set this off to the side to cure along with the armored head rest.

Thanks Joe, I have decided to build this one as a G-10. Going with this scheme I found in the excellent JaPo book on the G-10. As it turns out I already have decals for this plane. White 11 from JG52.

Tom: I'll get you posted and am looking forward to that G-10. Big Smile

Jay: I've always liked the detail that Aires puts into their upgrades. It does seem to always come at the cost of added time into the build to modify the kit to accept those items though. Lookin' great so far!

I am going to try out an Aires cockpit on this build. Generally I use MDC so this will be a little different. It does require some modification to the fuselage cockpit opening. Detail seems good so we'll see how it goes together.

plasticjunkie

I started working back on mine after being busy with things around the house and helping my son move back to Florida.

Good God Bish, that frame looks like a freaking hair puller! Like you said in the previous post, you have none to pull and neither do I but still quite a challenge as I see it.

It is a bit, but challengers can be fun.

Bish-Surprise

Anyone notice on the Has G-6,that they tell you to mount the front wing radiator screens too far back?

I just noticed it,gotta fix it tonight.

That's true, but not something I ever address. The radiators can barely be seen from the front, and most people don't spend much time looking at the bottom anyway. There are really good tweak lists for the 1/32 Hasegawa 109s at the Large Scale Planes home page. Just click the Market tab.

Thnaks Tom. I stumbeled across them after looking at the RB when i heard good things about it. They only do a small number of these, all for later model 109's and as far as i know they are the only people to do them. The Acetate come on 2 small sheets each with paper over it that has the outline marked on as a guide to cut them. I'll post some pics next time. Ye, i am thinking of useing klear to fit them, and its one hell of a change. I am having to pay more attention to detail here as often in 72nd it can be over loked as its to small to see.

Great looking canopy there, Bish. I had no idea such a thing existed. Quite an original idea. What's your plan on tackling the acetate? Are the panels pre cut? Will you use Krystal Klear, or the like? The rest of the bird is coming along nicely. I bet 1/32 is quite a change over the 1/72! I hope you're liking it.

Some really nice work here over the past few months.

I like your Dora, Moose. Good work!

Dang, Doug. I didn't realize you'd done so many 109s. They all look excellent! I especially like Gunther Rall's G-2. Congrats!

Craig C. Nice to see you dive right on in there with the CH 109E-4. It is a great kit and the detail and overall fit is excellent. The cockpit and cowling area will need a bit of work, if you plan on building it with the cowling closed. (It seems that kit is designed to be open cowling) Good luck.

'Stang. I'd like the first pic for the one on the completion page. Thanks for asking. I have several more 109s I'd like to get done, so I'll be around. At least for one more. I do need to get that G-10 done!

Thanks for the complements on my build guys!

I look forward to seeing more of your completions.

-Tom

Thanks Joe. Unofrtunatly they only do them in 32nd scale, other wise i would be tempted to try one. I kow they will get esier to work with with more practice. I think i might get one for my 32nd G for future use.
