Quick update: not quite up to you guys-es powerplant super-detailing, but it's about ready to attach to the firewall/gun mount assy.

It looks amazing Greg. Without all the extra bits I added yours should fit better and more easily. Looking forward to it.

Hey all, sorry I haven't been posting much, but I am still lurking via email, and I have a few minutes now, so I had to log on and say that I was just amazed at some of the work going on, in particular Joe's cutaway.

Joe - that is simply stunning. What magazine is it in? I didn't see it in FSM, but maybe I missed an issue? In any case, that is gorgeous, and gives me even more appreciation for these planes.

Thanks, Brandon. I definitely had your engine in mind when I mentioned the engine-detailing skills here. But I didn't mention you specifically because there are several engine detailing pro's here!

I can only imagine your fit issues. Just those two little PE bits simulating the ignition harness (I think) caused a minor fit issue for me.

Hey Greg, I think your engine looks great.  I like the look that you did with the paint and washes.  

Also as long as you are happy with it that is what really counts.

I like the look of that Kim. A bit different from what we usually see 109's dressed in.

Guys, I got a couple of questions I can't find answers to in any of my books.

First, the pipe, I think its a fuel pipe, that run along the inside of the pit on the right side. My hase instructions say to paint it RLM 66. I was sure it should be yellow, but was not sure if that was on later models.

Two, I have drilled out the holes in the recesses for the landing gear struts. I can't find any clear pics, is there anything behind those hols, such as pipes or cables.

Kim: Heyyyy!! That's looking good. Man I've gotta say these early model 109's are growin' on me by the second. I may have to do one of these bad boys yet!! Lookin' good!

Bish: On every photo I've ever seen of that fuel line it's been yellow. I don't have a reference photo to back this up right now but I'll work on it if need be.

Joe, I was sure it was yellow as well. I know all the models I have seen they are. The instructions just threw me a bit and my walk around books are on the E and G. I just wanted to double check.

I have the pit together and painted, just got to weather it and add the pre coloured PE. Hopefully will have some pics tomorrow.

Does it have the clear section of the pipe ?

There is a section in there that should be clear, not sure how I am going to do that yet.

You could stretch a piece of clear sprue the thickness of the line, cut and insert it in. Just an idea............

MMM, ye, I like the sound of that. I can at least stretch it before I cut and see how it looks. Normally I would just paint it silver, but this is the sort of thing I need to consider in a larger scale. Thanks buddy.

Unless I've misunderstood, the fuel line your asking about is indeed yellow in every picture I've ever seen and as Joe said has a sight tube so as to allow the pilot to see fuel thats flowing from the auxiliary tank. The main fuel tank behind the pilot has a gauge in the IP.

Kim, that's a clean looking 109 you have going there. Looks great.

I had a small snafu regarding my G-6:

I accidently glued the wrong gun cowl in place, so I had to take that one off again and clean up the contact surfaces. surprisingly enough, the fit was still very good with only a lot of sanding needed to smooth out the surface and make the joints disappear. Looks like I got lucky...

I also detached the wings in order to not break them while doing this (it happened on my Eduard 190 with some very nasty results and I wasn't willing to take that risk again) Luckily they were only spot-glued in place at that time.

I'll reattach those on Monday and then post some pics (I'll be out of town tomorrow)

Kim -- that's Hobbycraft's -D, right? The decals are AM, yes??? Looking great!
