Star Wars GB Episode II CLOSED

Quick update....

Front, cockpit and a good portion of the fuselage assembled. Man, ppl weren't kidding about Bandai's molding skills, I'm impressed--greeblie-o-rama:

While waiting for some Alclad copper to arrive (for the piping), I'm going to tackle the engines and then start priming and painting.

Now thinking of doing the Fine Molds 1/48 X-Wing next.

Looking awesome, Octane! I don't like many vehicles from the pre-sequels, but Anakin's podracer is one of them. 

Really nice paint work on Chewie, Nuc. I could never do anything that subtle with my airbrush. :-(

Anyway, decided to jump in with the Bandai Y-Wing, so put this beast away for now:

I'm just gonna have fun with this build and see where it takes me. :-)

I redid the bottom of the cockpit, it's better. still not great, but better. it was a battle to get the two halves together.

Nice work Octane, i'll have to remember that about the inlet edge.

Continuing on the Pod Racer, these parts went together with a bit of fiddling

I found the edge looked rather clunky on the inlet's edge. filling it down thinner made it look better. the modified one is on the left.

Well, I used my ipod to take some quick update photos. Not the best quality images but enough for you all to see that I have been doing something, haha.

Looking forward to seeing it Nuc. I have enough trouble painting hair on a 35th figure, never mind all that fur. But from what i have seen before, i am sure you'll do a stunning job.

I amlooking to make a start on my trooper soon, nopt so many coloursto worry about with that.

Joe, That interior is looking great. Can't wait for the next installment.

I am still plugging away on Chewie. A lot of painting going on right now. Got the bandolier and satchel almost done and been working on the fur. Even though he is mostly brown there are a lot of versions of brown going on, so it does not look so monochromatic. Unfortunately no pictures for proof, yet; I will have some within the week though.

I think this is shaping up relly nicely. I take it you added all that wire around the door.

And i have some good news. My Screamin Boba Fett arived yesterday. Now i have all 3 of the screamin 1/4 kits that i wante to get. Whoop Whoop.

Ive started the process of adding more details following loosely reference material.  Also started some weathering.

Just popped in to say that I just finished up the Bandai AT-ST. Best kit ever! Thought I mention it, since there seems to be a spat of Bandai kits out there, if you paint them, DO NOT paint the joins or seams. Bandai's engineers gave the kits very tight tolerances, so watch out.

Central room console seat.  Scratchbuilt the base, added seat belts and headset.  Followed reference material for these details and panting.  Will further weather it a bit more. Headset made and carved from solder wire

Made some progress with the interior of the Falcon.  Still will add more detail here and there as well as weathering it more.

Do you have any idea what that shade of blue-gray is on the canopy and nacelles of the Y? Is there an FS equivalent or will I have to mix my own?

Porkbits, I frequent the SSM site also. They have a lot of good info over there. I was not familiar with Bandai either and was not to interested since they first started with kits I already had from finemolds. But, when they came out with the AT-ST, well I had to get one. I have been working on it at work (during lunch of course) and have not used a drop of glue. The fit has been good. I will run some glue on the seams to make sure it stays together and use just a little putty but it has been fun to work on. I think you will do well with the Y-wing, just make sure to study the instructions. They are in Chinese, but the diagrams are pretty clear. I got a little ahead of myself and messed up a step, but  since it was snapped together it was an easy fix.

I have had my doubt about Bandai. Like Nuc, I had all of the FM kits I wanted, and some of the images I have seen of the Bandai kits makes them look toy like. The red laser blast on the small ship kits fr example. But on Tues at out monthly club night one of the guys brought in the Bandai Speeder bike for me to have a look at. I must say its a real nice looking kit. Not as big as the old AMT kit, but the detail looks real nice and lots of parts. I'll be waiting to see what it looks like built, but it certainly doesn't look like a toy and I may well have to add that.

On a side note, I have just finally nailed the third and final Screamin 1/4 kit I wanted to get, The Boba Fett figure. A guys had put it on E-Bay several times, bt I was not able to bid on it and he had not sold. So I contacted him last night and he still had it and sold it to me privately. He will be posting it today, really chuffed about getting that.

Joe, I see what you mean about those parts, especially that console.

Finally received my Shapeways parts!

Here is a quick comparison beteween the OEM part (right side) and the Shapeways one (left).  I airbrushed it with Vallejo's German Grey.  It looks wet because I just finished it.

Here are the grills and a detail of the floor after a little dry brushing weathering. The detail is awesome when comparing it with the OEM part.

Check out the consoles side by side. The right side is OEM, the left side is Shapeways.  It has minuscule hole for fiber optics if you choose going that way.  The OEM looks very toy like.  Once I finished painting all those little details the difference will be even more obvious.

This part of the build is very time consuming, but its fun!

Thanks, NMT. I'm only a slightly-above-average builder, so don't expect greatness, but I'll do my best. :-) This will be my first Bandai kit, believe it or not. I've been reading a bit about them, though, over on the SSM forums. The general impression I have is that Bandai kits can be over-engineered, but have great detail and fit. The pre-release pics of the Y are pretty much drool-worthy:
