Brandon, silentbob, Stephen,

Thank you. It was an easy build and ALOT of fun to weather. I had a seriously hard time painting it though. The acrylic I was using keep pealing off. I finally had to remove it all and repaint with enamel. But maybe in the end, all that just added to the final worn look.

Steve, That is the tank I was thinking about. Admit I did not read the post but is that the same model as yours. I'm thinking not as it does look bigger than what you have. Which by the way came out great! The chipping and weathering lends to the use of the the tank and the way it is displayed really sets it off, RogerRoger!!

Tanks Bish and Rob. This was my first attempt at actually chipping paint, instead of painting it to make it looked chipped, and an oil wash. I believe I have the confidence to tackle that 1/72 U-boat I've been holding off on until my skills increased.

However, now I have several builds to do first. I'll just have to hold off for a sub GB to give me a excuse.

Thank you Bush for hosting a GB with a fun, different subject.

Really nice Steve. I like what you have done with the long grass. That is really effective. I will put a pic on the front page tonight.

Nuc,

I believe you may be thinking of OctaneOrange's AAT. cs.finescale.com/.../163166.aspx.

He did a sweet job of puttin that little bugger in the hatch.

Nuc, when I posted that, I just recalled it was 2013. But went at looked at the thread, it was the Nov of that year, so just over a year. If you recall, it was for the Hollywood GB. Still doesn't seem that long ago, and your right, both me and my better half say its goes quicker as we get older. Ep VII will be released before we know it.

Steve, That came out real nice. Not sure about the size or which version tank it was, but I think I remember some one putting one of the 3" battle droids figure in a model AAT. I think what you have may be to small though.

Bish, has it already been a couple of years since you did the Probe droid? Doesn't seem that long ago. I guess time is going by quickly as I get older.

Ye, that's what I was thinking of doing as well, maybe go with some bushes and a some other vegetation. I did use the kit base first time round, but now I have moved on with my modelling, I would like to do something better. Can't wait to see yours.

I used a clear rod for a 72nd Imperial Probe Droid I built a couple of years ago. The Droid doesn't hide the rod as much as the tank would do, but with some tall vegetation, its quite effective.

I take it your not using the kit base

That silly little thing? Na, I'm going to put it on my usual wood base, floating over grass, with a clear plastic rod for support.

Thanks Kilk. I watched the battle yesterday with my grandson. It's one of the coolest designs in Star Wars IMHO. My wife and I really enjoy watching "Clone Wars" where the tank is featured several times, all be it in cartoon form, but still they do a very good job with it, again IMHO.

I did dirty it up some with an oil wash, pin wash and pastel treatment. I hope I didn't go too far.

All I have to do now is attach it to my signature vignette base, then take some better pics and call it done. I just wish I could have found an affordable, i.e. used, Battle Droid to put in the hatch.

Edit: I forgot the antennas. I gota put those on.

Great job on that AAT, Steve!

I'm kind of a (HUGE) Star Wars Nerd, so if you want any more info on that tank, feel free to ask.

In my opinion, the weathering is spot-on, but if you want to really match it to what was "on-screen", I suggest you re-watch Episode 1. They're heavily featured in the Battle of Naboo.

Klik

P.S. I think I'll pull out my Falcon and get it started this week, if I've got time.

Steve, if your not to sure about using washes, you might want to just try a pin wash. The effects achieved on those two pics go way beyond just a wash.

Cool, thanks guys. I'll put it through the wash.

I'm also going to try an oil wash, which is also a new technique for me. I bought some Windsor and Newton Raw Umber oils, as suggested by Tucohoward and JMorgan. I'm anxious to give it a try. I would love to get close to these results, but maybe not as severe.

I actually chipped the paint with an Xacto knife. First time I tried it. I think it looks real.....I guess because it is.

I rather like that chipping. I was to sure looking at the first pic, but its a lot clearer in the last one and I can see what you have done there. I think that's about right.

I tried a new technique of paint chipping. What do you think? Do I need to do more?
I need to run it through the wash and dirty it up some. Ha, you see what I did there?

I forget, is that the AAT?

Are you asking what kit it is? If so, it's AMT, and thanks.

Yup, it's an AAT - Armoured Attack Tank (I think it's funny that the spell check picks me up for armour, LOL Stick out tongue)

That's it, its been years since I built it and I haven't look at the instructions on the new ones I bought. I think its turned out nicely. Looking forward to the weathering. I didn't do any when I built mine, all I did on my armour at the time was dry brushing and some pastels.

I can't recall what colours I used,

Oh they have you mix 20% of this .05% of that 72.5% of this other color bla, bla, bla. I just used Radom Tan as my base, added a little Dark Tan for the medium color and a little more Dark Tan for the dark color. I'm not real happy with the medium color. I think it's too dark, but I'm not about to redo it. Besides, it's all going to get darker anyway when I weather it.

I think I used Tamiya when I first built one. I can't recall what colours I used, but I think it looked the same as yours. You have done a nicer paint job though, looks really nice.
