Just a minor update as the GB deadline looms....

Added some piping and wiring to the engine bays, pre-shaded the wing access panels:

After all that is finished, think I'll dive into painting and weathering the wings.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks! I'm using pictures of the studio model for reference and the Master Replica AT-AT as far as weathering goes. Some blast marks here and there, streaks and a few accents here and there to break up the monotone. I'm going for the appearance of one of the walkers that attacked Echo Base on Hoth.

Great paint finish, Bob! How much are you going to weather it?

Thanks Bruce! Yep, it is Model Master Neutral Gray enamel. I killed my bottle of it so I'll have to take a trip to the hobby shop to replace it.

SB,

Nice job on the paint! You said that is Neutral grey? I was going to use Light Ghost Grey on my Star Destroyer, but, I like what you are doing here. I think I'm going to try the Neutral Grey too.

Finally got some paint sprayed.  It took me awhile, but I'm happy with the results.  I'm going to do a light drybrushing of Light Ghost Gray over the whole walker and then do a pin wash.  Once that is done I'll put the whole thing together and get started on the snow speeder and base.  I'm going to wait to do the pastel weathering until the the very end.

Thanks, guys! X-Wing = a lot of wing surfaces to paint lol. Should keep things interesting.

Sorry about your problems with MM acrylic, bob. I don't think I've ever tried the MM acrylics but haven't had problems with the MM enamel neutral gray. I just make sure it's thinned pretty heavily.

FYI, Alclad announced a line of military colors at the Telford show. Definitely going to try those.

Speaking of, seems like I always make some kind of discovery/adjustment with each project, and with the Y-Wing, it was the realization that I airbrush better with my Iwata HP-CS than the Grex. Never would guessed that happening in a million years, but there you go. March up the learning curve continues....

That cockpit is looking nice. I just wasted an hour trying to spray the neutral gray. I was using Model Master acrylic, and no matter what I did I couldn't get it to spray. Normally I use enamels and bought this bottle by mistake. I've only airbrushed Model Master acrylic one other time, and other than some tip drying I didn't really have any problems. So I suppose I'll wait for my airbrush to dry out and try again with an older bottle of neutral gray enamel I found. Hopefully I'll get around to doing that later tonight.

...and beefed up the detail in the wings:

Plan to do the same to the engine bays using more wiring and styrene tubes.

OK, X-Wing officially started. The cockpit was looking a little bare so I added some bits:

...and a test fit:

Thanks for looking!

Nat, the level 2 kits do not have the lights and sounds. These are supposed to be actual (albeit snap tite) models, at least as close as Revell comes.

Bish there is one built up on the SSM website and it looks pretty good.

PB, you are more than welcome to keep posting pics after the GB has closed. Nuc, I saw some of them here a few weeks back. I might have to wait until I can read some build reviews, they seem a bit toy like to me. But will wait and see.

Looks like the level 2 kits from Revell are starting to hit the shelves, any takers? The X-wing seems decent, at 1/50, I might try it.

Great start on the AT-AT, bob. Looking forward to pics from you and Bish. :-)

Well, after a break (post-Y-Wing) and dealing with a busy period at work, I've started the Fine Molds X-Wing. This is going to be another fun build. I feel like a kid again, when my dad helped me put together the MPC X-Wing. :-)

In any event, like the Y, I'm going to dirty it up with no strategy other than to stop when that little voice in my head says to... stop!

I'll post progess pics until the GB closes next month, then guess I'll move it to a separate WIP thread, (if you guys are interested).

Look forward to seeing some more pics when you can Bob. I do promise I will get some pics of my trooper up soon. I have being doing a little work, but I was struggling to get the arms on. had to use plenty of filler and milliput, just got to sand it and add the head before I can paint.

Thanks Nuc! I wish I had more time to work on it, just been so busy with getting midterms together, then grading them. I'm hoping to get some time to spray paint soon.

Wow, I can see what you mean about those feet.

I've finally finished with all the seams and gaps.  After trying for a few of days trying to get a piece of sheet styrene to go the way I wanted, I decided to leave the flap in the back as is.  I scoured the internet trying to find someone that did it, and every build I saw had it like this.  I'm going to save my sanity.  I was able to get a bit of time at the bench today and was able to prime and preshade.  Hopefully sometime this week I'll be able to get some paint sprayed.  The instructions are horrible for paint callouts.  They say to paint it "light gray."  That really narrows it down.  I think I'm going to go with neutral gray.

If it were me, on those feet. I would simple glue the foot exactly where I wanted it, then apply some putty in the ankle area and shape it to the boot. A little filing and sanding and presto, a full boot look. It seems like every kit has something we all have to "fix" so it meets with our approval. I'm with Bish, I'd have to address that head on.
