Finding AM markings may be fun. Did a cursory look and I found a set from Aviaeology. TF.X version.

I wouldn't be surprised if Xtradecal will come out with a set of Beaufighter markings in the next 6 months to coincide with the Airfix release, so keep an eye out at Hannants webstore.

regards,

Jack

The Aviaeology set should be fine.  I don't know why the Airfix kit is labelled as only an X version.  The design was specifically created for coastal work with provision to carry a torpedo, which is clearly seen slung under the belly of the cad photo on the Airfix website.  As it is though, 404 never carried out any torpedo missions, and usually was loaded out with rockets for it's anti-shipping duties.

Morning and Happy New Year Bish and Stik.

I am back for another go - might have two goes if time permits.

First up is the following:

It is the Hasegawa 1/48 Shinden. Bought in the rummage bin of a Tokyo model shop. No instructions, and water damaged decals. But for 550 yen you can't complain, and I have found the instructions online.

Expect it will be a while before I get around to this - third on the GB list. Since starting GBs last year, I look at the GB lists and go back to the stash to see what I can get into. And go for the good looking badges...

Thanks Bish

No, I am going to see what I can recover, maybe have a shot at masking and painting the hinomarus, all the others from the decal stash.

Bish,

as I'm just about done with my only other commitment, a 262, I'd like to have a chance to join in here with Rudel's G-2 Stuka as marked out in May of '45.  I'll be using the 48th scale Hasegawa kit, and at the moment I've only started doing a little work filling in spots along the wing tips and fuselage.  As this was next on my list anyhow, and fits in with this build, I figured it would be good timing.  I plan on using a little etch and a resin set of wheels, but build the rest OOB.

Andrew, Stuka's are always welcome, and Rudels more so. I take it that's the one he surrendered in with the white lines on the rudder. I don't normally build 48th but want to ad one of these for my Rudel project, so wil be looking forward to this.

Hi folks.  I did indeed get a Sturmtiger for this build but I also was given a Maus as a gift.   I plan to go with that one first.  Its a 1/72 scale Dragon kit.  I bought a few Little Soviet figures in various resting/at ease poses.  I plan to make a little base to put it on.  The whole Idea is to depict the discovery of the Maus tank by the Soviet soldiers.  I hope to make it look as thought the Russians are looking and examining it.

I do have a question for anyone that may know...  What position did they find it in (The one with the finished turret not the dummy turret).  I see pics where one is sitting in a field with Russians looking at it.  Did they just find it in the grounds of the factory at Kummersdorf?

Cody, which is the image you are refferin to. I believe that this is the V2

and it was this turret that was placed onto the V1 hull to make the one that exists now.

Oh ok that makes sense now.    Well I suppose it will be a "Lets take our concoction back to Russia"  Diorama.

Found a very informative picture of the Maus during testing...

Well did some assembly on the 190. This is one of those easy assembly kits. What you see is about 7 pieces.  The detail is OK but the cockpit detail is non existent just a seat and stick. Put some masking tape seat belts to do something with it.

I have put myself through mental turmoil from deciding what to build for this GB. I simply had more choices in my stash than I realized. I have been sorely tempted to have a go at a ship model but, given how busy I will be this coming year I had to find something that would go together fairly easily and not require an inordinate amount of time. So, for the time being that is, I have decided to build Eduard's 1/48 Lavochkin La-7 Weekend Edition:

As you can see, it has a fairly low parts count:

Over time I have picked up a few AM parts off ebay. I snagged the VF canopy as the kit does not provide for an open canopy option:

More on my La-7 as I posted before I was finished. I picked up this nice decal set due to the fact that the weekend edition only provides one option.

I am going to build the rather colorful option in the middle because I like the dragon motif. It is the aircraft flown by P.M. Bojkov in the Czech Republic during the spring of 1945.

Also over time I have picked up some nice reference material in anticipation of building this model.

This is my first Soviet build and I'm not very familiar with the Soviet AF. So, I'm looking forward to learning a good bit as well as enjoying building this kit.

Bish it's the Hobby Boss easy assembly 1/72 .  Exterior wise the detail is decent. But the interior is a joke

Thanks tempest. I have not even seen a Hobby Boss kit. I have seen those easy assembly kits on line but am always put off. Its a bit like the snap Fix kits, I always imagine they are going to be more like a little kids toy. But sounds like they might be better than they seem, maybe with the help of an AM pit though.

Well tempest, regardless of the simplicity, I'm quite sure you're going to turn that into a beaut.

Bish, I agree with you on the ez builds, pass em by...I figure if I'm not cussing at least 1/3rd of the build, itaint worth Iit! Lol...

Johnny, kind of like an Otaki, Fujimi, Arii kit. Nicely detailed but NOTHING in the cockpit.

No pain no gain.

Johnny, for that price, I guess you can't really go wrong. If it is junk, $3 isn't much for something to practice painting on.
