The 2015 /16 Red Hot and Rollin Automotive Group Build--Ended

With all the rain and muddy sites around here lately I decided that I needed better drive tires on the dump truck. Here's my Double Take Replecia drive tires. 

MC, Superb job on the vette! Mopar, I like the way the bed came out. Nice! I am still around hehehehe. I actually got out and did some parts cleanup on the Camaro today. I just realized it's been awhile since I finished one. :) L8TR, Eric

Dan: Man that truck really looks good. Those tires look great on that thing. Where'd you get 'em at?

Steve: Nice paint on that Vette and the detail in that engine bay is terrific!!!! I still can't get over that wire routing. I want to thank you for being a part of Round 2 of this GB. If you get the hankerin' get on back in here for another one will ya? What pic would you like me to put up front in the intro for the completed build here?

crown: Man that thing is sick!!!!!! Paint finish is totally awesome and I can't wait to see this one with the decals on it.

Eric: Good to see you around and am looking forward to progress on your build.

   I took off last week to go to Kansas for a family visit to my wife's aunt and uncle and yesterday to take her up to San Antonio to see her neuro surgeon for a follow up visit. So far everything is looking good. She still tires easy but she's alive and well. Will be posting pics of my progress soon.

It's always nice to pick something that's been in the stash for a while and then complete it! 

My progress was a bit all over the show with not much worthy of a pic. The most time-consuming thing was decalling all the suspension arms for the Williams. CF decals in 43rd scale...?! And then also had to paint some parts blue for next phase, plus the ever present SGB. So a lot lined up for some assembly progress on that front. 

The Jag got some attention as well. But also now at the phase where the floor is being prepped and painted for a lot of parts. Also started on the engine so long.

So I'm hoping this will all culminate in some nice progress shortly. Hmmm... mind you, I'm guessing Sunday will not be a building day! ;)

Thanks Joe I picked the tires up at Double Take Replicas he has a small selection of resin truck tires,wheels and parts. Very good quality and quick service I bought them on a Fri and had them on Mon.

Hey all,

Did some work on the Camaro this weekend. The body is still soaking in purple power. It would normally be clean now but it had one layer of a failed experiment LOL.

Got the exhaust done. I'll dry brush the red with steel to give it a metallic sheen.

Finished one door panel with chrome trim and knobs.

The rims that came wit this kit are not so great so I'm going to modify an extra set out of a 55 Chevy kit I have so I started laying those to see what modifications I need to make.

On the 43rd Williams, some more progress...

One of the wheels - all are at the same stage of "almost ready".

All came together thusfar.

And a quick pick of the CF decals on the suspension arms - not all are visible in the shot, but every suspension arms has been decalled. Yet strangely nothing for the rear winlet behinf the "shark fin" or the bottom section of the rear wing?! 

Sorry for the picture quality, taken by cell to just get something done! Hoping to get the Williams done "shortly"... but still some building and a lot of decalling to come!

Ok everybody. Between going to Kansas for a week and the doctor visits with my wife it's been hit or miss with the GB but now that that has passed I'm back in here full swing. I'm going to take off with some progress in here.

For a couple of days I was just stuck. I had the body primed and was going to test fit the body on the chassis so I could figure out where to make the hood cuts at when......I noticed that the body wasn't going all the way down on the chassis. Long story short I had to take the couch back out in the back as it was too close to the L/H wall of the body. It took me a minute to find it because I noticed a couple of things that I overlooked when installing the floor onto the chassis that'll help with body/chassis alignment later. Those are fixed as well.

As of this morning I was able to test fit the body and mark the hood for cuts later. One more primer coat and this'll be ready for paint.

Ooooohhhh I'm liking that Stang!! I will see what I can do mate! I have a few irons in th efire at the moment. Not much space to keep stuff either. So trying to finish what I have started. I have always had a car build in my mind about how I want it to look. Think I mentioned I had started AMT's '58 Impala and found an MCG PE set for it. I started the engine by getting the block, heads, covers, manifold all together. Started the detailing with the water pump to intake manifold coolant line, and thats where it stopped several yeas ago. So if I can't find that kit I'll see what I can come up with as I really want to do a Muscle car some justice. I have a signette happening, I have Impalas from '58 to '67 and every one of them is a big block

Not much change in the progress because I decided to change out the BMF I had on the grill to chrome powder and did not like the finish on the black fenders so I was redoing what was already done. Also painted the top section on the dump body. Started working on the interior to. I'm going to change out the white on the front grill to chrome in checking reference pictures it looks like they are painted/chrome depending on the owner so I'm going chrome.

All: I put a coat of Model Master Black Lacquer on the other day and came up with this:

and then I shot a coat of Model Master "Wet Look" on this morning and got this crazy shine ( the reflection was just too much for me to resist)

Stang WOW what a shine!!! Hope I can get a shine like that! Well, I had a look through my boxes and could not find my '58 Impala, however, I did find the other end of the 409 spectrum. It's Revell's '65 Impala SS convertible. My rother and I went to a Hobby Lobby when I was home years ago where they had the hardtop and the droptop. First thing I looked for was what was under the hood. I chose the 409 as it runs in my signette to have the years of the W series engines. Later on I got the '66 which has the 396. So I guess you can tentively put me down for Revell '65 Impala SS409 convertible. I truly need to get cracking on my aircraft so I might have a chance to do this long lady some justice. Now to download that wiring diagram I saw the other day.

I broke out the decals that I had done over at Speedway decals. If you need decals for anything then I suggest this guy. All I've gotta say is .....WOW!! These things were a breeze to put on.

Thanks Stang! You're quite welcome! However I must say, that the Lt. Cmdr is ranks that were given in the Fleet Air Arm GB lol. However lol, I did serve in the USAF from 88-92, Desert Shield/Storm. Going to research some color combos while I'm doing other stuff.

Decals look great! Might try and order an MCG set that will help in the detailing.

LOL! Hey I was in about the time that Desert Shield was kicking off.  We were slated to go and all set and then we were put on "stand down" status. It wouldn't be until 2006 that I would go to Iraq and then it would be as a contractor. How long were you over there?

Awesome! And thank you for your service as well mate! I was only over there from the first week in January to the cease fire in March. No joke, I had just come off leave from PCSing from Guam. The day after my first day, I rocked up for morning roll call and I was the only one there. Nearly half an hour later one of the Sgts saw me setting in our team's ready room and told me the news about Kuwait. I was like Where in the world......lol. So, I didn't get over till January, we were some of the first people to get back as our team chief was a CMSgt. close to retiring. I heard a story that he made a phone call as soon as it was over and told whoever to get him home NOW! I was on a battle damage repair team for C-130s.
