Wow Mustang - that is an awesome shine! Almost a pity that it had to be decalled over.

Speaking of decals, I have completed most of the major assembly on the Williams. So started looking at what had to be decalled before adding wings, wheels and mirrors. I sighed deeply and from the heart.

The major barge board is painted SGB, as per instructions. I had the time to paint it any colour when not attached. But illustrations and the paint specs says SGB (TS29). So SGB it is. It is perfectly attached (perfect being a relative term, I know...) NOW I see the following on the decal images - a white barge board with wording on it! Nooo worries, the decal will then be white... Surely... you'd have guessed. Esp since much of the white sections on the kit will be white background decals. Look at the decal sheet... nope! Only the wording! Bang Head

I applied the first of the camera decals to calm down.

So now the barge board has to be hand-painted white on the one side. Which is interesting to start off with, because we all know white does not hand-paint very easily. But I must now also not inadvertendly touch and og the other car parts when wielding the brush! Why could they not have said upfront that it needs to be WHITE on the one side?! At the risk of repeating myself... Bang Head

Seabe: Man I hate to hear your troubles on the Williams. Hang in there and post pics of progress when you can as I always like seeing what you come up with on these things.

Dan: This thing just gets better with every post it seems like. Glad your in the GB Dan!

simpilot: Whenever you're ready pal. I've already got you down in the intro post.

Just a test fit of the body on the chassis so far. I've got to wet sand the body to get rid of some of the roughness and put one more gloss coat on this bad boy before I'll be satisfied.

Here are the fruits of 6 months work so far:

Mustang, that is a thing of beauty!

The Williams white barge board issue has been resolved by hand-painting it without too much colateral damage. My next challenge is the rear wing. Promise (not a note!) to self - this is the VERY LAST time CA will be used for rear wing assembly. Just so brittle you cannot move the end plates in place over the lower section to test fit, let alone glue in place. Will have about my 6th attempt at that shortly, with the one end plate having broken off and having to be re-attached (so expecting it not to end up 100% to my liking) each time.

But here she is, starting to near completion. For attachment I think only rear wing and mirrors left, as well as antennae on nose. Then decals - some my be required before detail such as mirrors. You'll also be able to see the carbon decals on front suspension arms. Somewhat rediculous detail, I really have to know it's there to be able to see it looking at the car itself!

So far it's looking great Seabe! You got a photo of the entire car?

I ended up applying a coat of Tamiya Smoke to the wheels today which really brings them out more if you ask me. I intended to do this from the start but one thing lead to another and before I knew it the wheels & tires were on the vehicle. After I noticed it I was too chicken to attempt the coating but the more I looked at it the more I decided it had to be done to get rid of that toy chrome look.

Before: (notice the high glare from them here)

and after: (a more defined and realistic look and this picture has even been lightened)

Joe nice improvement on your wheels.

Seabe looks like your getting closer to finishing this one up. Good luck on getting your tail wing in place.

Worked on the dump body with tail lights and decals. Also BMF on the cab. Next will be to install the glass in the cab and work on some other small details.

Heres where it is at now. Still test fitting.

Joe thanks I'm planning to get it finished in time for the HAMS show. My biggest problem now is now to rush it and mess it up.

If you have to rush.................skip taking it to the show. You'll be thankful you didn't rush later.

Mopar, that truck is looking great! Very impressive work.

I have just returned from a week in the mountains. Bliss, not even cell phone reception! Ready to continue with the projects after this nice little break. Yes, hoping to wrap up that Williams soon!

Lookin' really nice there Dan!! How much more have you got to go with this one?

Seabe: I spent a week away from home not too long ago but took my hobby with me on the road. lol . Can't keep me from it long. lol

Folks I have mixed feelings about the Wet Look Gloss. It does produce a gloss that is unrivaled compared to any I've used so far but it has a serious draw back of bubbling due to the immense aeriation characteristic it has. From now on I'll be dispensing it into a paint bottle to allow time for the air to work itself out and then airbrushing it on. Lesson learned. I am, however, working past it. It took about three hours of wet sanding and polishing  to get this stuff to behave but once I tamed it-it produced a gloss that I never thought would end.

Here's what I'm talking about in terms of bubbles..........and they were everywhere!

after wet sanding and polishing:

This is more like what was on the majority of the body. I'll be using the same approach to this bad boy

Yea Joe I almost always decant and air brush because of the air bubbles.

The Brockway is just about done I just have to put the Super Bee Trucking decals on that my son helped me make.

Mopar,

All I can say is WOW! That is definitely a show winner!

Mustang,

I like the way that thing sits. Mu kinda cars LOL. I feel your pain with paint issues. I did finally get the Camaro back in primer though.

Here's a few progress shots.

One note, I seem to have had a carb that decided it wanted to be a bird and jumped off the clip I had it on after I painted it. Any one have one of the flat style REVELL carbs with the D shaped bottom to fit the intake on the engine below?? :)

I robbed my 55 Chevy kit for the wheels and rotors (I have a set of chrome reverse with baby moons that are going to be used on the 55) and started cuttin' and drillin. I also cut the front molded in hubs off and shaped out the spindles.

Got the exhaust put together and painted. Also did a wash on it to knock the new paint look off of it.

Dry brushed the undercarriage and did a test fit of the exhaust. The flash makes it look brighter than it is.

Now this one raised my blood pressure somewhat lol. I thought the primer I used was cracking the plastic. Turned out to be it nothing. I soaked in some purple power and all is well. It could have ben bad hehehehe.

Here;s the body and hood back in primer. Half-way tempted to matte coat it and leave it as is hehehehe. This primer wenton smooth.

Here's the engine after cleanup and paint. I'm not going to do to much detailing on this one since I am building it for my neice and will sit on a shelf.

Here's the tranny after dry brushing. Again the flash makes it look brighter than it is.

Thanks.

Progress looks good on that Camaro Eric. Man you're right about the primer coat as it did go on smooth! I'm having the same issues out of my primer right now on my inside door trim panels. 3rd time I've stripped 'em. I've got another approach I'll be trying out on them this time around. Nice linkage on that transmission! Did that come with the kit?

I've been working on my PE electric cooling fan from Model Car Garage for the last few days and finally got it underway. I still need to run the electrical ckts to it but the base fan is completed.

I'm also continuing work on my interior door panels which have given me a lot of grief. I've stripped them 4 times so far. Just wasn't happy with the way the paint was behaving. I used acrylic for the white inserts and after I applied the gloss coat to seal it all in the acrylic paint started cracking. Then it was a masking issue that looked really bad and then I had a paint boo boo that went to crap when I was sanding to correct it. You know, the typical stuff. I used white primer this time around as a base coat so we'll see what happens this time round.

Mustang,

I'm diggin' that fan. I ordered one last Saturday for a build I'm planning on a re-purposed 57 chevy. Hint it's gonna be Yellow with a big fat blower. It's after the Camaro.hehehehe.

Ther ods on the tranny are molded in, I painted the tranny black then dry brushed it with aluminum to bring out the details. It looks a lot better than in the picture. The flash kinda blows it ourt and adds colored spots.

I sprayed the first coat last night on the Camaro and it went on pretty decent except for a few small bubbles on the trunk area and across the front edge of the hood. I think the bubbles are from the humidity maybe????

And here's the License plate I made for it. :P

L8TR,

Eric.

Joe lets go with the last picture for the cover page. The HAMS is on the 30th and my next build is a 68 Belverdere 4 door resin body and I'm going with a bare bone factory stock that will have a slant 6.

Mopar,

I used Model Master Acrylic Aluminum on a soft brush. I barely dip it in the paint then brush it off on a piece of paper until no more paint shows then go at it hehehehe.

Mustang,

The fan came for my next project today. Man, that things tiny hehehe. Gauges also came for the camaro yesterday so I may work on the dash tonight.

Eric

Hi all,

I sprayed 3 coats of Model Master's Classic Black enamel on the Camaro today. I'm not touching it for at least 4-5 days LOL. I like the shine it has. I haven't used it before and it has a silky gloss to it. Neat.

Got the rotors and calipers painted last night, may do a light wash on the rotos to take the new paint shine off.

Also started on the last door panel. I have a couple of things I missed on the first one to finish up also.

 L8TR,

Eric.

Dan: I've got you're Brockway posted in the intro buddy and it looks TERRIFIC up there!! Looking forward to your Belvedere. What manufacturer is it going to be?

Eric: With a shine like that I wouldn't touch that for at least a full week! I wouldn't want to chance it!! GREAT WORK!
