Well, one step forward, two steps back. I painted the darker color after the two lighter one yesterday and wouldn't you know, it's too dark......so I stripped it all off save for the underside and will start again. I ran out of RLM 75 so ordered more from sprue bros. This weekend I'll try again.

I guess I couldn't forget my Blackhawk ride, so I ordered this:

It's more of a utility version with weapons, rather than the search-and-rescure on I was on. No problem! I like 'em armed!

In the meantime, been plugging away here and there at the Huey:

The rotor isn't fastened yet, and the masking is still in place on those upper tinted glazing. Trying to get her painted up,

Mmmmm.... Just for fun, how does the Hawk compare to the Huey for size....

Jim

On my workbench now:

It's all about classic cars now!

Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?

Ack, Mike- not much I hate more than having to go back and redo stuff like that...

Jim: Looks cool! The Huey is shaping up nicely and it's amazing how much bigger the Blackhawk is!

Bummer Mike, I know how aggravating that is to do something over again.  Hopefully the second time will go easier.

KNOCK KNOCK!!! Anyone awake in here!?!

Sorry I haven't posted much myself, I did finish the Hellcat, but it keeps getting overcast by the time I get home from work so I can't get good photos.

Hi Cliff,

Still here as well. Lots of summer stuff here as well, plus time spent walking and riding the bike to get some more weight off! Seems the more you lose, the harder it gets as your body becomes more efficient, and requires fewer calories! Whew! I'm stuggling to make progress at this point.

I also did a 3 day trip out to the plains to catch up on some fishing a few weeks ago and may go again this weekend!

The other thing that occupied my time was a class I took in hunter safety. I have no current plans on becoming a hunter anytime soon but it did teach a lot about safe gun handling and responsible gun ownership. Plus if I ever do decide to take that step to be a hunter, this is a part of the process. The class included 2 sessions I had to attend in person and an on-line class that took the evenings of the better part of a week.

Good for you Jim!  I am still working on my weight loss as well.  It is true, the more you loose, the harder it gets.

Just don't get caught hunting any lions!  LOL!

Sounds good guys! I've been trying to lose a little weight myself. When it gets hot out I drink a lot of soft drinks and and have switched to diet but it doesn't seem to have much good so far though.

Jim and Mike: I was hoping to see more work on your choppers and 109, don't keep me in suspense!

Cliff, I will be posting some pics of the 109 tomorrow as I've made quite a bit more progress. Right now however it's time to let my dog out before a short read in bed and at least 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep!Sleep

As I indicated here's some updates on my "Gustav".

I ran into another snag after putting on the gloss cote and starting the decals. The kit comes with tiny decals to put on the outside diameter of the "beule" or bulges on either side of the engine cowling, (where the "eyes" are). Unfortunately, none fit correctly so now I'm forced to paint them if posssible. They're extremely narrow so it's going to be a challenge.Sad Also, I still must contend with the broken antenna point on top of the vertical stab. I've drilled a hole where it was and am canning one from another "G" that was already damaged.

So far, I like the kit overall in spite of a couple curveballs its thrown at me.Bf-109Bf-109

Mike: Despite your problems she's coming along great so far.

BTW: Sorry but I still don't have any Hellcat photos, overcast yesterday and very windy today. I didn't want to risk having the model blow off somewhere. I really need to set up some sort of photo booth. On a brighter note the Wildcat is close to done now, I masked and sprayed the canopies (my most hated part) yesterday and am trying to make a replacement pitot tube out of wire and epoxy.

Hi Mike,

I can't find a way to reply directly to your post.  The 109 is looking great!  You did a great job painting the "eyes".  Good work so far!

Almost finished with decals and stencils. Had to repaint an area of the fuselage where the Balkan cross lies and ended up having to redo the cross and 87 octane stencil as well. Fourtunately I had some extras in my spares as the kit only supplied enough for one application. I'll be painting the canopy this weekend along with applying a pinwash and random weathering/ exhaust staining.

I'll be posting pics tomorrow Ken. I'm going to be putting on the canopy then as I finished painting it today. It's definitely looking like a warbird in "Defense of the Reich" now! Hope you're doing well along with all my other modeling friends in this GB. I suspect everyone's been busy with summertime stuff since there's been a drop-off in posts lately. It's to be expected this time of year. Take care buddy!

Well, I'm almost done;Bf 109 (Reichsverteidigung) here's a pic of what I have thus far. I still have a few bits and bobs to add but she's darn near ready for a Luftwaffe Jagdflieger to strap in and go!

Well, finally finished. After a few set backs I feel pretty good about the final result. Next up I'll be doing an Airfix 1/48 Hawker Fury. It's real basic; no PE or aftermarket stuff. Just a nice easy build which is what I'm in the mood for after the Gustav!

Here's a decent 3/4 view for the wall Ken. Post whenever you get a chance.

Thanks Cliff, the camo was a trial and error thing but it worked out pretty well. I had to leave work early today due to being ill. Now I'm just going to lay on the couch and watch an episode of Perry Mason before sleep.
