Ken, I was thinking about the front page and what you would enter for me. I seem to change my builds more often than than I change my socks! I'm going to try to stick to the Huey for now, and work backwards to the Cobra, Warthog, Crusader, etc.

Dave: I played WoT for about a year, ended up with so many stupid people on my team I ended up yelling at the screen more often than playing and I gave it up!

It's funny; after 18 years of being on the job, I finally got my Taser last October.......luckily, I haven't had to use it (yet).  Hope it stays that way!

Gamera, I know what you mean!  My buddies taught me the trick of setting up a team even while just playing by myself.  That way you don't have to listen to the idiots....although it is fun some times to talk smack......LOL

Just checking in with a quick update. I've been pretty busy at work and fell a little behind in my build but just finished glueing the fuselage together after toiling away with PE in the cockpit. I'll post some pics this week as time permits. So far this one is going together well albeit with a few minor setbacks. Hope everyone's doing well on their projects and having fun on this GB. I always enjoying seeing the progress here.

Hello gang!

Just checking in. I've piddled here an there on the models, but haven't made any great strides to report. Much of my time seems to be spent on various activities, including a re-interest in an activity that I've dipped into a little of the years, shooting and firearms. Not hardcore, nor do I intend to go out and blow Bambi away away anytime soon. Just as a sport. As if I needed another interest to occupy my time (and money!). Then there is all the other things, such as yard work, house chores, biking and walking to combat weight issues, and occasional fishing trips. Maybe winter will be the time we all return to the workbenches, when the cold winds blow and snow falls....

Did run across an interesting special addition mag on my grocers news stand....

Hi Jim,

Very cool about your re-interest into firearms.  A fellow worker has recently purchased a handgun and is trying to persuade me into joining him at the range.  I am very close to agreeing.  It has been a while since I have shot a firearm.  I may have to take him up on the invite.

When you get a chance to read through your new publication, please give us a review.  You know I will be very interested in getting a copy if it is worth the money!  Smile

I have to agree it is hard to find time to spend at the workbench during the summer.  Just way too much going on.

I will also admit to having other motivations for this interest, first being the whole political situation and gun control, which I won't debate here. The other being the fact that the neighborhood I moved into over 20 years ago has seen some major changes. Although it is is a 'manufactured home' community, it was one of the more decent ones in the area. They managed the park then, having residents responsible for keeping their lots and homes maintained, bringing in street sweepers monthly, repairing streets as needed , replacing driveways, etc. Now I can look out my window and see two empty lots overgrown with weeds, with many more throughout the park. There have been 3 drug distribution issues on my block, one of which is my neighbor, who is now a two time loser.  The second time was a parole violation. He is also a junk collector, and at one point had 7 lawnmowers, a number of bicycles and other crud along the fence next to my yard. I won't even mention the VW bug parked behind his shed. There is a house down the street that there are no less than 9 people living in.

I keep a gun now because......?.

Jim, we are living in dangerous and 'interesting' times....better to have a firearm and not need it than to not have one and REALLY need it!!  Sounds like your neighbor would benefit from your local zoning office, to 'encourage him' to clean up his act...........nice looking magazine, BTW!

Couldn't agree more with you on the gun issue Dave. The inconsiderate, irresponsible neighbor is a whole different story. Usually people like that are difficult to approach and even harder to reason with. As you suggested, better to let the zoning board handle that can of worms!

On a lighter note I've been making slow progress on the 109; mostly because as others have stated, it's difficult to find time during the summer months. Anyhow, here's a couple of pics. the cockpit took a lot of time due to the copious amount of PE. The only snag I've hit thus far is getting the wing to fuselage join to close up; hence the tape. Other than that, it seems to be a great model.

Mikey,

Your 109 is looking good; especially like the way the interior came together.  What markings will she wear??

Yellow 6 is my choice; it's the mount of Ofw. Alfred Surau. He was shot down and killed on 14 Oct. 1943. It will have yellow on the spinner and under the radiator. With a black spiral on the nose. Along with that it's got "eyes" painted on the beule , however I'm adding them later for ease of painting. Thanks for the kind words.

Mike: She really looks good, nice cockpit there.

I haven't shot anything since I was a kid, guess I should brush up as crazy as things are getting. Seems like the Crazy Train just keeps picking up more steam.

I laid down the final matte finish on the Hellcat yesterday. There is a weird white stain on the nose I want to carefully airbrush out and then to the clear parts and cross your fingers I'll be done and ready to post photos! Somehow the prop and the pitot tube have vanished off the Wildcat, hopefully they'll show up before too long so I can finish her too.

Yeah, Dave, I can understand the pitot tube since it's tiny but the whole friggin' prop??? And it was with the Hellcat prop the last time I saw it so how did it vanish by itself???

Anyway my new airbrush came today and I wanted to take photos of it while it was still new and shiny with no paint splattered over it!

Just a quick update on from the work bench. As I said, it's been a bit of work here and there, but some progress has been made.

In the meantime, I can't wait for October! I've wanted to go to an airshow so bad, and the last one here in Denver was a nightmare! The Thunderbirds are scheduled to perform in Grand Junction in October and I am going! This is a 4 hour drive from here, so I reserved a room for a couple of days just outside the airport. I will head out Friday morning, so I can be there Saturday morning bright and early! It will be a nice little mini-vacation trip! I just hope there will be no weather surprises as this is Colorado!

Hi Jim,

That is definitely looking like a Huey!  It looks great!

Too bad we don't live closer together.  It would be nice to go to an airshow with someone.  I went last year to the one in Dayton by myself.  I enjoyed the trip, but doing it alone got boring pretty quick.

Jim: She's lookin' good!

And have fun at the air show. I went to the Dayton one years ago and other than being crazy hot it was fantastic! The smaller ones are great fun too!

Ken: My current airbrush is a Grex of the same model, the XG. A few years ago I soaked it overnight in some mild solvent to clear out some paint and it dissolved the inner seals! The brush still works but leaks paint back into the body and is a bit of trouble to clean. Then the other day I noticed the head was dinged up so it didn't want to spray straight. Looking at the Grex site for replacement parts I noticed they'd made a bunch of improvements to this one- the XGi so I just went ahead and ordered the new brush. I mean I've painted probably a hundred or more models with the last one so I guess I can justify buying a new one eh!?!

Hey guys, I'm making good progress on the 109; first coat of primer is on. Painted some of the RLM yellow but will have to put a few more light coats on to get it looking nice. Working second shift so after getting out at mid-night I work about 30 minutes or so before going to my bed to read and then sleep. I completely agree with you Ken about wishing some of us were closer together geographically, I know two guys at my work who are into modeling so at least I have someone to share my model building stories with. Anyway, will be posting some updates to my build this weekend; till then, keep up the great work1

Good to hear you making progress there Mike, looking forward to the photos!

Sorry to say, it's been hot and when I come home from work I've been turning on the AC and collapsing for a good nap. The Hellcat is about 99% done and I can't seem to get over the final hump there.

I'm hoping the weather will cooperate with me. The Grande Junction area does have the longest growing season for the entire state. However, we are talking about Colorado! Plus there are these things called "The Rocky Mountains!" between me and my destination! Anything could happen in October!

Hey guys, getting more done on my '109. I primed and painted the light blue yesterday, then did my RLM 75 today. Had a setback when I clumsily broke the antenna attach point on the vertical stab. I'm going to drill a small hole where it attached and cannibalize from my spares. I wish they would leave small pointy things like that off the molds and give a separate piece instead. I knew that was going to happen!Angry I still have to apply the last camouflage color which will require some masking and a very steady hand. Wish me luck!

Hi Mike,

Your 109 is starting to look like a 109!  Big Smile

It is really looking good. Yes  Yes   Big time bummer on the antenna.  I agree as well.  That should be a part that is separate from the molded part.
