Well, I'm done for the night. Gotta let the glue cure overnight so I can get the sanding done in the AM. 

Had to break out the heavy equipment on the pit, it didn't want to come together, but I fixed it good. The rest of the kit is falling together. I only need to mask and install the canopy, sand the wings and a few spots, tires and PAINT. Well, primer and PAINT.

Steve, my wing roots are really quite acceptable, I've seen much worse. No worries on this one.

Well, let it not be said that Weekend Madness is not without a little extra pressure.  Not an hour into my build, and I have no power.  Last year the furnace caught fire during my first entry.  However, onwards we push as long as my batteries and candles hold out.  May be my last entry for a bit, until power is restored.  Storm is supposed to hang around for a while.

Paint or glue isn't flammable is it?

I think Im calling it a night.  Some folks have already some nice progress shots so I'll add one of my own.  I spent a few hours sanding raised panel lines and re-scribing new ones and took care of some odds and ends.  This isnt a complicated kit by any stretech of the imagination so Im planning on adding some additional detail but not enough to take away from the comical nature of the kit.  The canopy is under glass and should be ready for masking tomorrow afternoon.  The Airfix 190 in the background was my scribing template.  Tomorrow will be packed with obligations around the house but I'll get primer and base coats down by days end.  Goodnight all.

Yeah, I remember the cockpit being a bit of a bear as well. Still a nice kit though.

These tracks are being a bit of a pill and are slowing me down some. I will get them together tonight before turning in.

well....after 3 attempts to post a freaking pic, I'm done with FSM.  This is the only place I every have issues posting a pic.

Looking great everybody!  Started my build three hours ago, 8:30 pm CST.  About an hour into the build, I fell asleep for about 90 minutes while waiting for the primer to dry.  I now have painted fuselage halves, cockpit tubs, and some assembled wings. Nothing really pic worthy yet, will post pics tomorrow when I can get to the library.  My builds are as follows: 1/72 Hasegawa F9F-2 Panther (same as Bonefixer, only my instructions aren't as yellowed) in VMF-311 markings. A 1/72 Hasegaw overall insignia red F9F-6 Cougar, and a Hasegawa 1/72 F11F Tiger in markings to be determined.  If I can get these three finished, all I'll need is a Wildcat, Tomcat, and an Agcat to finish my Grumman cat family.  Keep up the great work !

I whiped them into shape. It's 23:30 MT and off to bed while those dry. I see you in the morning.

I didnt get started until just after 9pm on Saturday night, which is waaaay too late, I think this will get messy at the other end :) I dint buy a newspaper today, so this is the best I can do.

It's now 12.30 pm, this is as far as I've got so far. I wanted to get the prop sprayed yellow, so I can mask it tomorrow.

I've constructed the  interior and aurbrushed it Humbrol 78 cockpit green.

The instrument panel in this kit is a flat piece of plastic with no detail, nor does it supply any instrument panel decals. To get around it, I've copied the instrument panel decal from an Airfix Spitfire Mk 21 kit and will use that. Not sure if its completely accurate, but its better than nothing and I dont really ave time to look at it too deeply. I daresay that is will be almost invisible once the canopy is closed up anyway.

Love those red box kits!  Looking good so far.

Well it's morning and power was restored at some point in the night.  Great looking work so far.  Keep at it guys.   I managed to get quite alot of plastic together in the dark and now that I have air, I am prepping for a big airbrushing session.  I need to get caught up.  Just a quick progress pic. and I will hopefully post some real progress in a few hours.

Moving along a getting a few things done this morning. Got the hull all together, although some fit issues on the stern are causing some filling.  Also got a few light coats of greys and browns on.  Started laying out the masts.  Like kit sails, I generally do not use the kit masts or spars.  They are too flimsy.  Not real happy with the ones in this kit but I'll try them.  

Sadly, I must bow out for this weekend. I have social obligations today and had a painting disaster that precludes finishing by tomorrow night.

If the rules permit, I may take another shot at this with a different kit next weekend.

Here is my progress so far on the panther, Will get some paint laid down today. I am thinking this will be a wheels up build. I forgot how small 1/72 scale fighters are.

Canopy is on, base layer of primer is on and sanded with 3000, smooth as a babies bottom. I just laid down the under surface blue/green and I am letting it cure in the sun. I'll give it about an hour and mask off the demarkation line and shoot the upper surface.

PS: I'm chanelling my inner "Toshi" to make this move this quickly.

Not much detail for the long boat so I am adding some.  Also adding another update pic of the deck details getting added.  Oils are pretty forgiving and easy to use once you get he hang of them. Also trying a paper sail technique using wet paper over the kits sails to form a thin sail made of paper.  Dang cats keep walking across my sails flattening them out.

Cat Daddy, you are more than welcome to try again next week.  Sorry to hear about your paint problems.

And now for some photographic evidence that your fearful leader is building this weekend.  I'm using a new camera, and I don't think that macro photography is it's strong suit.  But then again, it's probably user error.

The beginning:

At bedtime, roughly six hours in. Houston, we have something that looks like an airplane.

At this point I would show you the pit with the original decal panels in place, but all that came out was a blurry black and interior green blob on top of something that resembles a phone.

Woke up about 7:00am, was back at the table by 8:00. Time to go have lunch with the MINI club.

Houston, we now have two aircraft.

I'll keep working on the Tiger, but I don't think it's going to make it. These kits aren't too bad, just wish there were more modern kits of these aircraft.  Back to the bench.

I done, with27 hours to spare, I probably have time to slip in another. I can't this weekend though, I just about spread my wife's patience about as far as I feel safe to push it. We are also having family over tomorrow and hanging Christmas lights on the house.

So anyway, thank you for hosting again this year lewbub, it was fun. I will contemplate throwing in a 1/144 K5 rail gun later, but not sure.
