Last blast, let's go out in a blaze of glory! Weekend Group Build the 2015 Edition.

Well, there is just about 2 hours to go and I'm afraid I have to admit defeat.  The kit was a mess to put together and I just didn't have the time to do all these decals.  I will finish it, and my nephew can have a new toy to fly around the living room battling evil.  As I said, the kit ended up beinf a real POS with some significant "short shots"  that I noticed waaaaay too late to be able to deal with properly.  I must say that I do like these Akan paints.  Although brittle, I really like the colors.  Down, but not out.  I WILL finish another one next weekend.  What that will be, I'm not sure yet.

Nice work all around on this thread and congrats to all finishes!  I find I'm too busy to look at everyone else's work during my own build sessions, but now I can take the time to appreciate all the great work.

I may be able to do a second build. I have a 1/144 Dragon K5 rail gun and I'm off half a day Wednesday. If I start Tuesday evening after I get Home, work on it all Wednesday except for 4 hours at work and some work time Thursday morning... I may be able to pull it off.

Here's where I finished last night - cockpit and interior done, but lacking three grams of weight that would fit in the nose.After a quick visit to the hardware store this morning, I managed to get the fuselage weighted and put together, along with the wings and tail. I also pulled the wheel cover doors so they can get primered along with the body. At this point, I may be clear coating the whole thing at midnight so I can get decals on tomorrw morning. At least now it looks like an airplane.

Officially started last night at 9:00 pm CST. Basically zip got done because I thought I was out of the light gull grey needed to paint the pit, landing gear bays, and the intake trunks. Got the intakes assembled and primered, then did some research and went to bed. Got up this morning and inventoried the paint supply and found not one, but two bottles of light gull grey. So, in the last three and a half hours, I've assembled and painted the ejection seat, painted and decalled the cockpit, installed the intake ductwork, and assembled the panels that cover the intakes, and puttied some seams. Hopefully at the twenty four hour mark, she'll have the first of many colors on. Keep building!

I could have used that gull grey. I had every color I needed but that one. i mixed dark grey and white into an approximation. I managed to get nose ballast this morning and I'm off shortly to assemble the fuselage and get primer on it.

Looking forward to following this weekends progress-especially Cat Daddy's experience with the Vallejo Metal paint.

I'm watching the clock creep toward quittin' time so I can go home and start Weekend Build Round 2. I ordered some Vallejo Metal paint from Spruebrothers on Tuesday and it arrived today, just in time for the build.

Well, not much to show yet, but again looks are decieving.  Things should button up shortly and it will start to look like a Tornado.  Hopefully to primer in a few hours.

OK, I'm in again with yet another Airfix 1/72 Spitfire XIX, purchased specifically for this GB.

Last week I got distracted and started two of them, one is still unfinished. To avoid any confusion, I won't touch it this weekend. Here's is it's current status:

I'll leave it as is until after the weekend.

Got the cockpit done, fuselage sealed up, and a few other bits. Also played with the dog, kids, ate dinner, chatted to wife, etc'

I haven't quite settled on the scheme yet, I am leaning towards the Turkish decals on the Xtradecal sheet, or the other kit scheme.

More plastic fantastic tomorrow....goodnight and good luck if you're having a crack at it this  weekend.

OK, Round Two!

!/48 Italeri Tornado ECR.  It's 9:04 Thursday night and I'm off and running.  I will get you a picture of the Forger in the morning.

I finally got my Spitfire done. To be honest, I've made more mistakes on this model than I have done for many years, mainly due to breaking some of the long established 'guidelines' that I've got in order to get the thing done at a frantic pace. I was feeling a little jaded, but then I've just reviewed the completed models on page one and found it a bit inspiring, so thanks to you guys, I am going to have another crack at it this weekend.

It's currently Friday morning here, and I plan to start later this evening, so I have the rest of the day to finalise my subject (victim ! ).

Would you mind updating my entry on page one please, it currently says Chipmunk, but I changed it to the Airfix 1/72 Spitfire FR Mk XIX.

Now that I mention it....

For those that are wondering when this build will end, probably the first weekend in December.  HOWEVER, if there is sufficient demand the second week in December at the latest.  Now, for my continuing saga of the Grumman Cat Story.  When we last left our hero, he had just gone to bed Friday night/early Saturday morning with two Grumman kitties on the table.  He woke up Saturday morning and stumbled to his table and began to build.

There was a really cool wolf's head that was supposed to go around the nose, it tore itself to pieces as I tried to apply the port side, was majorly bummed.

Forty Eight hours exactly, and she's done.

I hope you have enjoyed this build as much as I did.  For those of you who didn't make Round 1, see you at the bench Friday!  Don't know what I'm building yet, but be there or be square!

This is what I shall be attempting this upcoming weekend. As it is a new-tool Airfix kit, I shall only have to wave a bottle of Tamiya Extra-Thin over it while standing at the crossroads at midnight and all the parts will assemble themselves, right?

I'vegot the decals onto the Spitfire, in the spirit of this GB I'm keen to move it on quickly. It's been some time since I've sprayed enamels, as I did for this kit. I've found them to be very porous to the Future I use to prepare the model for decalling. In the end, I was so worried about the decals silvering, that I used Future as the decal 'solvent' instead of my usual preferred Microsol. I haven't applied a flat coat as yet, so it looks patchy. I am much happier with the more restrained preshading effect now too. I also like the restrained panel line effect, as this kit did attract some criticism when it was released for its deep panel lines. I wanted to accentuate them ina very mild way.

The glitter at the front of the wing decal is just a reflection.

B_one & Caveman-very nice builds-I haven't had the courage to tackle a plane yet-you've both done a great job!

Tony-bummer on the wing root fit but looking forward to following this one thru to completion.

Lew-When is the 'official' end date for this GB?  I'm committed for the next two weekends but...and a big 'but' here, might try for weekend of Dec. 5th if this one is still open.

Awesome work for everyone who completed their project on time. It's a really good effort to get it over te line.

I didn't make it, but I did enjoy the intense build over the weekend.

I got up early this morning to spray my Spitfire, and got it done, but took the short cut of omitting a primer as I just didn't have time.  I found that one wing root join needed some more work, but had to leave it until after work.

I attempted to remediate it after work, and patch up the  spray job, but eventually found that I had created an inconsistent finish over the pre shading, so with a puny 12 minutes to go, I decided to finish it off properly, and reload for next weekend.

In the meantime, I'll fix the finish on this SPitfire, complete the other Spitfire that I started, and assess my stash for a suitable victim for next weekend :)

Over?  I'm just getting warmed up.  Next Friday, I will attempt an Italeri 1/48 Panavia Tornado ECR, in a Luftwaffe Tiger Meet scheme.  This one might be a bit too much.......
