With the pilot in, the wings are on and the radiators are installed underneath. masking the glazing has started off camera too.

Looking through the kit this morning and I thought I had everything, but looks like I need to order some paint.  The Prinz Eugen and a unique two shaded gray camo.

Bish, this will also be the black finish, but having read the RAF GB, I am going to have to put some blue in there too...

Painted up the figures that don't normally get a look in.

Then had to mangle the pilot to get him to sit with his legs under the dash. He is in now, and never getting out.

I have come back to fill a gap in my GB sequence!

Entry for '41 is the Airfix 1/72 Defiance, new moulds as the night fighter.

Yesterday I painted the interior Tamiya RAF Cockpit Green and partly assembled it, but now we go on vacation, so that's it for a few weeks...

Just as a matter of interest. I am not sure if you lads can get Humbrol enamels but they are basically all I use due to limited supply here.

Their new range of "RLM codes" are really nice and from what I can tell the colour match is very good.

I have found them easy to AB aslong as they are thinned quite well. In the past I used thinners to thin but anything over about 25% it started getting pigment seperation and it became "grainy"

I now thin all my enamels with mineral turpentine and it works like a charm, it flashes off slower and I can get the paint thinned to the cosistency of milk , about 40% with no bad effect on the paint.

Ye, there colour specific range is quite nice. I used their WW2 USN colours on a hellcat last year and really liked them.

Thanks for the information about Humbrol, too.  They supply a lot of colors that Testors doesn't make anymore, so I use them quite a bit.  Good to know about thinning them for airbrushing.

I'll check into their RLM colors.

I wouldn't mourn the lack of Testors too much; from comparing them with Colourcoats, I think Colourcoats airbrushes better.

Glad the paint pen arrived without creating an international incident.

They have a couple of colours that Xtracolor doesn't do such as RLM 77. And where as Xtracolor 81 has gone green, Colorcoats does the original brown version. I tried a couple of their German navay colours on my U-99 and really liked them. I have built up a stash of a few more for when i tackle some of the bigger ones.

Ye, it does not make much sense to me. I had thought it was an EU thing, but clearly not. I know it caused hannants and others some major headaches when first introduced.

On the flip side, we can't get any testors products over here, but one of the guys did send me a Testors enamel silver paint pen across the pond and it seems no aircraft were brought down on the journey.

I haven't tried Colourcoats Luftwaffe paints; I still have enough Testors MM for a little while, but will probably give them a go when I need some more.  I have a couple of He-111's waiting, and they'll take up a lot of paint.

Just got an order for some from the US distributor.  I like their range and authenticity. Picked up some IJN paint for the I-19 submarine which sank USS Wasp; plus they had the US equivalent for RAF Sky.  Should come in handy on the next AVG Hawk.

We have similar delivery issues here in the States, too.  Enamels have to come via some sort of ground shipment--not the US Postal Service.  I really don't know how a few tins/bottles of paint pose a danger to an aircraft loaded with thousands of pounds of jet fuel--but such is the thinking in the world today.

I know the rescrictions on enamel paints can be a pain. Even within the UK they can't be carried by Royal mail, they have to come by Parcel Force. But at least you can get hold of coclorcoats over there and their range is getting bigger. I know they have all the main German aircraft and armour colours alongside the naval ones.

Bish:  That's interesting to hear, and it makes sense.  I had wondered whether the manufacturer behind them was Humbrol, since they all come in the little tins.

Before the postal regulations forbidding air shipment, I got some Xtracolour through Hannant's, for WWI aircraft, but haven't built anything to use them with.

Over here in the States, it's not always easy to get hold of specific thinners for British-made paint, so I've been using lacquer thinner for everything, and not had any problems.  Before they discontinued it, I used Floquil Dio-sol for everything, and it worked fine, too.

Xtracolour had/has a lot of useful colo(u)rs, but I don't think they distribute across the great Pond.

Check, i have heard that Xtracolor and Colorcoats are produced in the same factory. While Xtracolor is my main paint of choice, i have used colorcoats on occasion, including on my current He 162 builds. I have noticed no differance in how they spray and i thin then the same. I did use colorcoats thinner in some Xtracolor land that was fine.

Onlydown side with colorcoats is they need a gloss coat.

Man, that livery brings back some distant memories - I think Revell did the same markings for their 1/48 Spitfire released in the late 70's.

I finally completed this model.It was a real fight in some cases but overall the thing looks like a Mk2 of the 1940's RAF era.

I went for a highly faded look to the paint, the weathering is mostly chipping and exhaust/gun soot stains.

I still need to paint the pilot figure

Using Tamiya cement to settle decals is a technique I've not heard of.  Glad it worked.

I've got a bottle of Walther's Solvaset--supposed to be a "big gun" for decaling, but I've found a number of kinds of decals that are resistant to it.  They silver and/or won't conform well to the surface.

This is a fine looking Spitfire.  Nice work!  It's quite attractive.
