Great results, Nick.  You did an excellent job with the Buffalo.  Very much appealing to the eye.

CM many thanks for comments .This one is done. I used model masters paint and metalizer and weathered with tamiya acrylics. The last time I built a F2A Buffalo is was in 1966 1/72 finish ace at the time (revell 3 kits in one deal).I thank all of your for your comments and for being in this GB. oh and tamiya deal solution great stuff I wont be round filing those decals again.

crown r n7: I scrolled back and saw the bottles, thanks for the info.  I've always been a fan of Tamiya kits and paints...maybe I'll give that stuff a try! I also noticed you had a bottle of Tamiya pre-mixed panel line wash.  I haven't built much lately so I'm a bit out-of-the-loop on new products...it looks like they're trying to stay competitive with MiG, Wilder, etc...Is the wash oil or water based?

Thank you SMJ,Yes I always didn’t like Tamiya kit decals but I found this stuff in local hs. I tried it on this kit and l like it it’s available in two strengths , I haven’t tried it on other decals yet there is a warning on the label that it can melt other decals.  11 pics up from here shows the two bottles.

crown r n7: Amazing how a wash brings it all together!  The landing gear really makes it come to life, looking good! Did you say Tamiya now makes a decal setting solution? Replace Micro Sol?

I painted the landing gear with metalizer steel and place the high speed prop painted with alclad aluminum.

I also like how your yellow and silver finish turned out Nick.

That looks great, Nick.  The wash is really effective in bringing out the details; and the colors are still vibrant.  Nice work!

I gave it a tamiya flat black wash with tamiya super  thined flat clear to give a sun beached look .

the tamiya mark fit decal solution on these decals is AWESOME. I havent tested it on any other decals yet .

I've seen some photos of some pretty beat-up aircraft, lost, so I don't think yours is overdone at all; and I think you're right that weathering will tone things down and blend everything together.  It's certainly creative, very visually interesting and attention getting.  Nice work!

Scott, the Prinz Eugen is coming along really well, fine detail work there. Not sure your sailing ship fits the GB time zone though.

Nick, the Buffalo has raced along there and is looking superb. You forget that pre Pearl there were a lot of very bright US aircraft out there.

For the Defiant, last time it was silver. on this build I am trying my hand at a heavily weathered finish. Stage 1 was a hairspray coat followed by a mix of blacks to get variation (flat, Nato, semi gloss) then scrubbing back to reveal the aluminium underneath. I think I have gone overboard, but I am relying on weathering to tone it all back in.

So I am just as interested as you to see how this goes...

CM thank you I still have folquil slivers and I don’t want to use them !  But I wanted to use down my metalizer paints with many boo boo’s . I started the weathering . I also miss SNJ spray metal paint.

Nick, that is great-looking!  The markings bring everything together.  What a great job!

SMJ thank you. I like my cars but they are never this bright. I do tanks ,planes miltary stuff its all good. I like to build cars but this thing!!! my kid said dad it looks like a toy. YES   Im going to pin wash weather it a bit then spray thin coat of flat clear for a semi gloss finish. ok put on your shades.

crown r n7: WOW, that's yellow!  The paint job looks sharp, nice crisp edges.  I'm an armor guy so of course I look for weathering.  Do you have any plans to knock down the sheen and depict some wear? 

Very colorful, Nick.  The yellow is especially intimidating, I think; bright enough to put an enemy on the run.
