Looks good, Tony.  Has that dry and arid desert appearance.

Thanks CMK. Here's a couple of photos of te base. I've had some trouble with my photography/lightning here, the ground has come out darker than it really is. I've added some extra debris for realism, and filled out the wall that was one sided, but other than that it's true to the base that Matchbox originally gave us.

Very good, Tony.  Especially nice effect on the Panzer.

Progress photo of my Revell 1/76 Panzer II. The tank itself is almost done, I'll need to paint details on the exhaust and weapons then give it a flat coat. With the base, I've filled in the back side of the wall, and added some additional debris (with Milliput) to the front and rear of it. I'll add a bit more, then start painting it. THe two Afrika Korps figures are primed, haven't really started on them yet. I'm enjoying this build, I really should do more armor.

Lost, the Defiant looks fantastic.

I think I mentioned it before, but as you say war weary but the night black paint also was not very durable and was a temporary paint - all of which you have portrayed quite admirably.

I gave the Panzer II a coat of primer. Since then I've also given it a coat of grey. Both are Tamiya acrylics. I'll let this dry today. I've got one of those Vallejo paint sets for DAK vehicles, so it will eventually be sand coloured.

One of the things I'm interested in, and the reason I'm building this kit is the history of scale models.

This kit was originally released by Matchbox in 1976. I remember getting it with this box art.

In 1979, it got this reworked box art

After the demise of Matchbox, Revell picked up a few molds, including this one. The release that I'm building was released in 2008.

Anyways, enough of the history lesson, these things go together pretty quickly.

The only extra work I've done so far is to fill in the back of the rear building, as the wall was hollow. I'm thinking I might add some more rubble to the base though, and perhaps some stowage to the tank if I can make it myself.

Build roster is updated with your Panzer, Tony.

I remember having some of the Airfix kits you mentioned, way back in Jr. High.  Some of them came with bases and figures.  I think the bases were vacume formed.

They were fun to play with after building.

I'd like to add a  quick build into this GB please CMK. I'm going to re-live my childhood by doing the Revell 1/72 Panzer II kit, which is originally a Matchbox kit complete with diorama base. The two decal options are for a tank of the Leichte Division, DAK, North Africa 1941 and and the other is for Pz Rgt 8, 15, Pz. Div. DAK, North Africa 1941-42. I think either is ok for this GB.

I built many of these Matchbox 1/76 armor kits as a kid, and I think I'll do a few just for fun from time to time. I thought they were easier to build than the Airfix kits, and I couldn't really get hold of any other brand at the time.

Hopefully it'll be a quick, fun little build. I actually made a start on it last night, basically the kit construction is out of the box, with the base I've filled in the walls of the ruined building as they are one sided and I'd prefer them to be solid.

Few pics from last night.  It looks like a lot is done, but with of all the parts I have left, the ship is still about 40% complete.  A lot a parts for such a small ship.

I am in the process to measure the main deck railings, then to cut and paint them, and attach them pretty much at the end of the build, otherwise I will fat finger them into squashed little deformities.
