75th Anniversary of 1941 Group Build (World at War)

Turning out really nicely, Scott.

I'm sure you'll do an excellent job with a dazzle scheme.  I did USS North Carolina in a dazzle measure a few years ago, and thought maybe I'd try it again on USS Missouri when the 1944 GB comes around.

That would be fine, psycho.  What's the scale and the manufacturer, and I'll add you to the build roster.

Thaks Check,  everything I am doing I pretty much picked up here on the forums.

These sub-assemblies are small, but with the ultra fine needle in my airbrush at low pressure, they were easy to paint.  I may get the courage to try a dazzle cammo some day.

You've got a nifty method of gathering the parts together for painting; and the full hull does look impressive.

Excellent Defiant, lost.  Plus, it's always good to see a crew manning the aircraft.  Good work!

That Defiant is looking good.

Since the day was another 90 degree day with about the same % humidity, I spent time in the nice, cool basement and did the airbrushing that I procrastinated for the last month.

And a little fitting up.  I decided I might stick with the full hull.

Okau all  the dangly bits are hanging off the Defiant now, all that remains is getting a few finishing touches and then the good photos.

Whatever it takes, Scott.  Plenty of time left--a lot of summer, too!  

Its now June and I still have not made it back to the model bench.  Will try to get to soon.  I really want to get this project done. 

Good to hear your vacation went so well, Scott.  I'm sure spring-time duties are going to bite into modeling time.

I raked up leaves out of the flower beds Saturday; acquired blisters on both thumbs--something that doesn't happen when working on the plastic.

No progress from me.  Its Spring and I'm working on a number of landscaping projects.  I do hope to get some time in the next few evenings to work on the Prinz.  Its ready to paint.

After the oils were wiped back, I have sealed it off again, heading to the last weathing stages:

I hope it does as well, but I haven't had a chance to get back to the bench for the last two weeks.  I will be out of the country on vacation all next week, so I guess no updates from me until mid May.

My Tamiya thinner came today, so hopefully I can start airbrushing the Prinz Eugen.  I started using Tamiya acrylicson the last couple of builds and kept getting a chalky finish.  I learned it was better use use their thinner.

Very effectiv, la.  Hard useage!

LA, that finish does look ratty doesn't it. 

I think I've read somewhere, Britmodeller likely, that the black used wasn't very robust and constantly had to be retouched.  Apparently there was also a grey primer applied beforehand (either dark or light grey).

many thanks lostagain your build looks like one of those museum planes that where just found . I was looking at some Finnish buffalos and they look just like your build very realistic!  Keep going!

Nick, the Buffalo is superb! Fantastic finish, great metallics, and just taking the gloss off the yellow gives it the used look.

The Defiant looks extremely used, but the decals are all on now so they need to be bashed up a bit as well. This will either look good or....

Crown, your Buffalo is stunning. I think you've single handedly got me hooked on that yellow wings thing again.

When Bish runs a GB, he usually allows people to finish--even after the deadline--so long as they've posted some progress photos before the official end.  Then, you can still complete the project.

So I'll invoke "Bish's Rule" over at the Midway GB for all participants who can make a start and submit photos before the deadline.

Ok . looks like the a big task reposting the lost pics.now I can work on the B24 . I wish I had more time for the midway build it takes me a while in building a SBD maybe next time.

OK, Nick, you're finished build is up on the front page.  Thanks for contributing it and all your effort and skill to the GB.  It's a fine Buffalo.

I also see I need to try reposting the other finished builds, lost in the lamented phooto-bucket disaster.  I work on restoring them.

Thank you MC and scottrc I bought this kit in the 90’s with super scale finish decals but I counldnt  resist the colors. Maybe I’ll get me another for the finish ace.
