Thought I took some more progress photos of the 87 B but either my phone or me malfunctioned. This is where I'm at with it now.

Yes, it is.  I love the Fujimi 72nd scale Stukas and short nosed Phantoms.

Nice choice, Ed.  Always room for a Stuka!  I've updated the build roster.

I've built some Fujimi ships, but never planes.  Is it 1/72?

Interior is together and I just need to start painting and detailing it. It's basic but its a start and not much of it will be seen anyways.

So I was trying to think of what to build for 1941 and figured why not another Stuka. Thinking of a Fujimi Ju87B/R kit as a B-2T in Libiya.

Check

I arrived at the place I wanted to stop and take a break on the big ole Akagi. I ordered some ladder rungs to replace the pi#@ poor plastic lines that were molded on (like those on the second picture) however, until that time arrives.....I'm putting her aside and working on something else in the que....not Japanese.

Ignore any missing ladders and such. They were removed to easily facilitate the removal of the plastic handholds and instalation of the new PE. Those will all be taken care of once I get the rungs in.

I know it doesn'tlook lick mush that there's many hours involved.

Ooo, close up shots show some stuff that still need attention.

Sharp, sharp work, Steve.  They are little models all in themselves!

Thanks Check.

Here's some pics of Alliance's 12.7 cm type 89 AA gun conversion to a reasonable facsimile of the 12 cm type 10 which the Akagi had, using some kit parts. The guns were to be replaced after Midway.

Those aa gun platform details are breath taking. Your shots of the whole ship really show off how daunting of a project the Akagi is.

 Thanks Check

After working several days on the Akagi I have most of the port side completed. I installed most of the railing, some I should have waited on but, they're on now. The Hasegawa PE is very thin and extremely easy to bend and break so with my fat thumbs this will no doubt cause problems. Hasegawa does not provide holes in the bracing, so everything had to be drilled. I'm waiting for the ladders from Australia and I'm not sure when those will be arriving. I really need them at this point.

OK guys, I completed this section, at least until I get the IJN ladders from B&A in Australia and attach the deck, but I'm moving on. The black paint under the 25mm AA gun platform is where I'm checking if I need to add some filler. I also need to add the railing before I spray the black base.

I added some detail interest to the area under the deck but can't find any pictures of it to really know what was in there. Probably no one will see them anyway. This is the area where the three AM (Alliance Model Works) 1.2cm twin AA guns go. I glued the bracing on the AA platforms and set them aside to dry before attaching them to the hull. This area is going to need to be repainted. Lots of dust in there No

Thanks for the information, Steve.  I probably wouldn't use them.  PE is often enough trouble for me to get into; but for the benefit of anyone else, go ahead and post the contact info if you'd like.

I got them from a guy in South Korea. He was a little tricky to track down after I saw his Akagi on Pinterest. I have his contact info if you or you know someone who might be interested.

Laser cut paper parts are not that bad of an idea for precision parts. From my experience, they hold up very well and they are a cheaper alternative to pe.

Thanks for the information, Steve.  Who makes these, and where are they available?

Thanks John, I wasn't sure I was right.

Check. The creater made them out of a paper thicker than printer paper but less than cardstock. Kinda like Resume paper. A little thin CA and it becomes harder than styrene of the same thickness.

Steve and John:  thanks for clearing that up.  Until now, I hadn't even heard of paper parts.

I think that's where the laser burned the paper when it cut it.

You are spot on Steve. Happens to the laser cut paper parts that are used for the model rockets I build.

Impressive, Steve.  What are the black lines on the parts?

Hey Check,

I have been working dillegently every night on the Akagi. I have been replacing the bracing parts with the laser cut paper parts. Each one takes me about an evening each and still have several parts left to do. After this do I work on the AA guns or planes or do I go back to finishing the hull?

Thanks Check

I worked on the PE 25mm gun and here it is finished and next to a kit gun. It took me around 3 hours but now I know the sequence. They should take about and hour each and have 13 more to do....unless I loose parts.

Paper braces are something I haven't heard of.  Sounds like you got them to work very well.  Everything is looking great!

Thanks Check,

Some more progress, slow, but progress. I worked on the AM paper braces and finally got the process down. Now I'm starting to get some things done again. A 25mm AA gun platform is shown here. The other platforms shown also have the paper braces. Once I touch them with thin CA, they become as hard as plastic. I need to attach the bracing posts and makes up some AA guns from PE. There are also 2 ladders that will be attached from the small hull opening to the platform.
